Johnson transfers in after being the leading passer in a three-quarterback system at 4A champion Reidsville. That puts him at the top of the Forsyth County list. He has a remarkable arm for his size, as well as an easy, repeatable throwing motion that allows him to deliver with accuracy. That helped him put up an impressive 24-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Johnson isn’t the biggest guy, and he’s not even really a full-time starter, as part of a two-QB system with one of our top 2027s for state-champion Reidsville. But he can deliver on time with consistent accuracy, and with a precision that allows his playmakers to maximize yards after the catch. I’m interested to see where he goes from here, but if he can keep working in the weight room, he’ll be a guy to know for the 2026 season and beyond.
Johnson is getting his first extended action as a true starter this season, and he’s playing really well on a team with a lot of weapons. He delivers with accuracy and allows his receivers to maximize their yardage after the catch. He has good velocity on his throws, especially for a smaller quarterback, and does plenty of little things well.
Johnson doesn’t have much varsity experience, but there’s a feeling within the Reidsville program that he’s going to be really, really good. We at Prep Redzone want to be ready for that. So, while we typically don’t rank quarterbacks until they have either a decent amount of varsity film or some offers. When we’ve broken that rule though, we’ve typically been successful and we see a lot of the same traits in Johnson that we have in other breakout quarterbacks. So, he moves from the watchlist into the rankings and we have an eye on him as a potential riser in our future midseason update as well.
Braxton is stepping up to lead one of the better teams in the Triad this season, and some early footage of him in 7 on 7 has been promising. I like the touch Braxton puts on the deep ball, and he looks relaxed with his mechanics in this setting. One rep in particular on a rollout pass, I like how Braxton gets depth on his roll and then attacks, throwing forward on the run. A lot of young quarterbacks don’t master this level of technique until they become an upperclassman. I will keep track of how Braxton continues to develop as he is on our watch list.
