Welcome one and all to a new Deep Dives series. If you're unfamiliar with the concept, Deep Dives are our most in-depth area coverage on Prep Redzone. We go county-by-county, position-by-position, to break down some of the best high school players in the state.

After 43 deep dives in the Raleigh-Durham area, we're moving to the Triad. Starting small, we're looking at Forsyth and Guilford Counties. Here are the top five quarterbacks in Forsyth County.

Johnson transfers in after being the leading passer in a three-quarterback system at 4A champion Reidsville. That puts him at the top of the Forsyth County list. He has a remarkable arm for his size, as well as an easy, repeatable throwing motion that allows him to deliver with accuracy. That helped him put up an impressive 24-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Brown is the veteran in a county where most schools started seniors last year. The rising junior threw for just under 1,800 yards last year for Mount Tabor, and he also flashed the ability to get outside the pocket and pick up key yards. We expect him to continue to develop as a player this year, and he should come back in 2026 as one of the county's top passers.

Morales sat behind one of the area's best quarterbacks last season, but the coaching staff did a great job of giving him some run with the varsity squad, including an extended outing against Northwest Guilford, when he threw for 114 yards. He has a quick release and looked comfortable, even as a freshman.

Francis transferred from run-heavy Mount Airy to an East Forsyth team that threw the ball nearly 300 times last season, so that should be a fun change-of-pace for the high-upside rising sophomore. He threw a catchable ball and showcased impressive accuracy last year. There's some projection needed here, but he's an excellent track athlete with huge rushing upside, even if he doesn't become a full-time starter in 2026.

Byrd-McCoy is another younger guy who isn't even penciled in as the starter, but could have a big year if he wins the job. He's a high-upside, potentially elite prospect on a team that has some budding young talent. Obviously, his size stands out, as the 6-6 passer has the frame to add lots of good weight. He can generate a lot of velocity, and if he develops well, he's a name to know not just in the area but in our state rankings.
