About Nick

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

As a free safety, wide receiver, and special teams player, I play with intensity, discipline, and focus, always putting the team first. I’m coachable and give full effort on every play, whether reading the offense in the secondary, making a key catch, or contributing on special teams. I take pride in being dependable, staying composed under pressure, and leading by example on and off the field.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’m determined, disciplined, and team-oriented. I stay focused under pressure, approach challenges with a positive attitude, and take pride in leading by example. I value hard work, resilience, and supporting others to help the team succeed.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I’m an honor roll student and a member of the DECA Club at my school. I also volunteer with the Oak Ridge Youth Association’s youth football program and with Backpack Beginnings, which supports local children in need.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

As a permanent team captain, I’ve built strong leadership and teamwork skills by motivating others and leading by example. Volunteering with the Oak Ridge Youth Association and Backpack Beginnings has deepened my sense of service and taught me the value of mentorship, compassion, and giving back to my community.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

One significant challenge I’ve faced is balancing academics, athletics, and volunteer commitments while also dealing with a losing season on my football team. Managing my time, staying motivated, and supporting my teammates through setbacks has taught me resilience, perseverance, and the importance of leadership and teamwork.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college that challenges me academically while also offering a competitive football program where I can continue to grow as a player and a leader. I want a team with a strong culture, supportive coaches, and opportunities to contribute on and off the field.

Varga has been on the radar for a while after hitting multiple Prep Redzone events early in his career, but only entered our rankings in February, and we’re already moving him up. His size and lateral quickness make for an excellent athletic combination, while his instincts helped him become one of Northwest Guilford’s leading tacklers last season. The ball skills are there, so expect him to have a couple of interceptions as a junior.

Though he played most often as a deep safety for Northwest Guilford, he’s a high-level run defender who can get downhill in a hurry. Now, he’s transferring over to East Forysth, and I’m interested to see what role he plays there. A Prep Redzone Showcase veteran, his lateral quickness and instincts are excellent, and I could see him getting some reps at outside linebacker because of that.

There’s a world in which we move Varga to the athlete category, as he contributes in all three phases of the game. But he’s best known as a ball-hawking safety. He scored on both defense and special teams last year, racked up 62 solo tackles, and was a part of four takeaways as a sophomore. His length and range give him excellent coverage upside, and he’s already living around the ball as a run defender.
