Minich is just another of Lakota West’s embarrassment of riches in the defensive backfield.  While some of their other top prospect got big time recruiting attention earlier on in their careers Minich’s didn’t come until the summer before his senior season.  That’s when the Notre Dame offer came, and after a couple of weeks of mulling things over he committed to the Fighting Irish.  Minich has pretty much everything you want in a safety.  He’s fast, he has good feet and hips, and flies around to the ball.  He tracks the ball well and has good ball skills once the ball gets to him.  He actually played quite a bit of receiver for the Firebirds and made some fantastic catches on offense.  As good as Minich is in coverage he isn’t afraid to come up and play the run and is a very consistent tackler in doing so.  He just consistently plays at a high level and that’s what any defensive coordinator is looking for as his last line of defense.  I can’t wait to see how Ben continues to fill out and develop as a football player.

The Senior DB played very well on Friday night as he made 6 tackles, recovered a fumble and had 3 pass breakups. He plays as a FS. Against the pass, he effectively reads the QB while in coverage and shows excellent range as he tracks the ball in the air. He does a good job of timing his hands to disrupt the trajectory of the ball for a PBU. Against the run, he quickly reads run/pass and shows good closing speed and instincts in pursuit before delivering a nice form tackle preventing a gain of significant yardage,

Ben Minich Ben Minich 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Lakota East | 2023 State OH is the 2nd ranked DB and the 15th ranked player in the class of 2023 overall. Ben recently committed to Notre Dame. He plays as a FS and SS. Against the run, he displays quality instincts as he quickly keys and diagnoses the play. He takes the correct angle in pursuit while displaying very  good play speed and athletic ability before delivering a nice form tackle on the RB behind the LOS for a TFL. Against the pass, he displays elite closing speed before making the tackle on larger WR preventing a gain of significant yardage.
