Continue ReadingThe 2023 class of incoming seniors is a strong and deep one. We have additions from the top all the way down. We have 150 players ranked and another 50 on the watchlist. This offseason saw some players have their stock rise. Some burst onto the scenes as new additions to the rankings. All in all, we’re excited to release are newest rankings update. Today I’ll be going over some new additions to the rankings.
No one rose this offseason the way Glenville’s Outside linebacker Arvell Reese Arvell Reese 6'4" | 210 lbs | LB Glenville | 2023 State OH did. The 6’4 210 pounder had his speed and athleticism on full display. He went from relatively under the radar to legit power 5 blue blood offers such as Ohio State and Alabama. Reese is one of those rare linebackers that can do it all. He can come up and fill in run fits, he can drop and cover, and he can rush the quarterback off the edge. He’s the type of athlete that can be a difference maker at the highest level of college football. It’s going to be interesting to see where Reese chooses to continue his academic and athletic career. After flying under our radar Reese checks in at number 5 overall in our rankings.
Few Ohio football programs, if any, have put out as much division1 talent over the last few years as Lakota West. With all of that talent one player has seemingly flown under the radar. That is no longer the case for 2023 DB Ben Minich Ben Minich 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Lakota West | 2023 State OH . The 6’1 180-pound Senior defensive back has blown up this offseason picking up offers from the likes of Notre Dame and Oklahoma. Minich is the whole package. His read and react is strong. With his speed, he can cover the boundary or the field sides of the football field. He’s an A+ student in the classroom and it really does carry over to the football field as you can see him setting his team’s defensive alignment. With that kind of intelligence, it’s no surprise that schools like Duke and Stanford are after Minich’s services.
Checking in at 16 overall is Collin Dixon Collin Dixon 6'1" | 200 lbs | WR Tallmadge | 2023 State OH . Dixon will be one of the top returning offensive players in the state of Ohio. As a junior Tallmadge high school’s Dixon caught 69 balls for over 1,400 yards and 18 TD’s. He can create separation in short spaces, and he can get open deep as well. He tracks and high points the ball well. I really think he could play inside or outside at the next level. At 6’2 200 pounds Dixon possesses great size for the wide receiver position. Dixon had a busy offseason of power 5 offers. In June he picked an offer from the University of Wisconsin and 3 days later he committed to the Badgers. The Badgers seem to like Ohio receivers as in recent years they’ve brought in Springfield’s Danny Davis III, and Northmont’s Marcus Allen. Dixon will try to continue a strong Ohio tradition in Madison.
Princeton is another Cincinnati area high school that has not lacked for talent. When I watch his film one of my favorite things about Caleb Clark-Glover Caleb Clark-Glover 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Princeton | 2023 State OH is his break. The 5’11 180-pound defensive back checks in a number 31 overall. I like him at the free safety position at the college level as he plays well in space and positions himself well to make plays. He does a great job of read and react, and like I said when he breaks, it’s usually over. He possesses good ball skills once he gets to the play. Clark-Glover is committed to the Marshall Thundering Herd.
Ironton wide receiver, Ty Perkins Ty Perkins 6'3" | 190 lbs | WR Ironton | 2023 State OH , is a player I’ve had my eye on for a couple of years now. He’s been on the watch list as we tried to figure out where he fits at the next level. After a big offseason Perkins checks in at 33rd in our rankings. He really moves like a player smaller than his 6’3 200-pound frame. Perkins has a good feel for setting up defensive backs and using tempo and breaks to create separation. Don’t let that “route runner” mantra fool you though Perkins has some after burners that will make you pay if you don’t respect his ability to beat you deep. He has smooth hands and good body control. This summer Perkins was brought in by Cincinnati and coach Luke Fickell to compete in an invite only camp where he showed out. Shortly after the camp Perkins was offered by the Bearcats and committed soon after that.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Tyler Williams, the Taft football program has taken off. After a strong 2021 season the Senators would go on to lose in the regional finals to the eventual state champion Versailles. One of the top returners for Taft will be 2023 defensive end Lance Byndon Lance Byndon 6'3" | 235 lbs | DL Taft | 2023 State OH . At 6’3 235 Byndon has prototypical size for the college defensive end position. Byndon is very explosive off the snap and does a great job of getting up the field in a hurry. He’s a guy that lives to be disruptive and live in the opponent’s backfield. As he gets stronger and adds to his pass rush repertoire, he will be a force to be reckoned with. This offseason Lance picked up his first D1 offer, and it was a Power 5 offer from Purdue. He followed that offer up with offers from Kent State and Toledo. I have a feeling there are a lot of P5 coaches that are eagerly awaiting his senior film.
