Minich is just another of Lakota West’s embarrassment of riches in the defensive backfield. While some of their other top prospect got big time recruiting attention earlier on in their careers Minich’s didn’t come until the summer before his senior season. That’s when the Notre Dame offer came, and after a couple of weeks of mulling things over he committed to the Fighting Irish. Minich has pretty much everything you want in a safety. He’s fast, he has good feet and hips, and flies around to the ball. He tracks the ball well and has good ball skills once the ball gets to him. He actually played quite a bit of receiver for the Firebirds and made some fantastic catches on offense. As good as Minich is in coverage he isn’t afraid to come up and play the run and is a very consistent tackler in doing so. He just consistently plays at a high level and that’s what any defensive coordinator is looking for as his last line of defense. I can’t wait to see how Ben continues to fill out and develop as a football player.
