Anthony Diaz Anthony Diaz 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR East | 2024 State NY took a step forward this season nearly doubling his offensive production while showcasing for the second straight year how he is one of the most dangerous returners in the the state. Diaz showed the quickness and burst we saw on tape last year once against but his improvement as a route runner finding open space against zone coverage and on broken plays was where he took a big step. Defensively, Diaz shows great ball skills and showcased some of the high-quality traits you look for in a defensive back. Headed to Army, Diaz will help Army continue the transition into a more dynamic team that focuses on getting their skill players the ball in space.

Last night was another big game and another big performance by Diaz. On his very first defensive outing Diaz made 3 straight big open field tackle plays then followed those up with an 85 yard pick six that opened the games scoring. Diaz also threw a 1st quarter touchdown to Ervin Wiggins Ervin Wiggins 5'9" | 175 lbs | DB East | 2024 State NY Jr. later in the first quarter. Diaz also snagged a 30 yard strike from Quarterback Zymier Jackson Zymier Jackson 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Buffalo East | 2024 State NY on a 3rd and long from inside East’s own territory. Anthony finished the game with 4 catches for 58 yards. And for his efforts was named the class A title game MVP

The D1 Army commit has had an all-around great season for East. Diaz has posted 707 yards receiving on 42 receptions averaging a career best 16.8 yards per catch. Diaz has also added 4 receiving touchdowns. On special teams in the return game Diaz has totaled 293 yards on 10 punt returns and 3 punt return touchdowns. If Brighton wants to win the game they’d be wise not to punt the football to Diaz.

The talented East High star held a commitment in front of the mural where his brother passed away at. And how fitting that Diaz gave his verbal pledge Army. Diaz gives Army a unique versatile player who can be an asset in all three phases of the game and has more than enough athleticism to turn into a star player at Army. First up though is Anthony’s senior season and with his commitment out the way he’ll be able to focus on making even more big plays that have made him a known commodity in Section V football.

Diaz competes in multiple events but his Long Jump ability is one of the main reasons he’s on here. Having jumped 21 feet 6.5 inches back in Mid May at the GC Spartan Invitational. And has 9 Long Jumps of 20 feet or more in his career. With 8 of those long jumps coming this season.  Diaz has personal best of 11.31 in the 100m, 23.99 in the 200m and 6.82 in the 55m (indoor track).  Runs anchor leg for his schools 4×100 relay team which has run the 2nd fastest time in Section V (43.04). And with the athletic resume that Diaz possesses there’s no wonder he makes jaw dropping plays on the gridiron during the fall. With a strong summer camping and these updates track & field times/marks, Anthony could find a lot more MAC schools, Independent FBS and AAC schools with interest in his services.

Diaz already has an offer from Buffalo and there should be some more recruiting interest coming after this next season. Diaz is so quick and can reach his top speed very quickly after making cuts. Diaz is so dangerous in the return game and has the ability to use elite speed on the sideline to turn what would be a 10-15 yard return to a return of 35+ yards. Diaz also is a really solid route runner and uses acceleration our of his cuts to create big seperation against defensive backs. Diaz also played some defense and has really solid range as a defensive back.

Anthony Diaz is a 5’11”, 175-pound junior from East High School that has a knack of making plays all over the football field. When it comes to special teams, Diaz has that second gear to outrun units in both the kicking and punting game. This is a very explosive returner. Being able to make defenders miss in space is a strong aspect of his game. On offense, he is a player that fights for extra yards and can play as the X, Y, or Z receiver. When getting out of his breaks, he is very quick, smooth, and precise. This was shown greatly when he runs post and corner routes. Additionally, he can take snaps at running back and in the wildcat formation. One huge trait that was very clear, is he has outstanding vision. Diaz will find the open lane and hit it for extra yardage.Flipping to the other side of the ball, Diaz can play safety as well. The ability to track the ball, take the correct angle and make a play or tackle is there. Diaz is a true example of a do-it-all football player that you want on your team.  For 2023, Anthony has two goals that he wants to accomplish. The first is to receive more offers and the second is to win a championship.
