The number 2nd seeded East Eagles and the 4th seeded Brighton Bruins clash Friday at 7pm to determine the 2023 Class A Champion and State playoff rep in for Section V in Class A. Below we’ll take a look at some of the big time play makers for each team that will surely have an impact on this championship game.
The East Eagles have a slew of weapons at their disposal. And none more important than QB1 Zymier Jackson Zymier Jackson 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB East | 2024 State NY .
Has completed 138 passes on 205 attempts, good for a 67% completion percentage on the season. Jackson has also tossed 24 Touchdowns against only 2 Interceptions on the year. Zymier has also added 491 yards on the ground averaging 7.7 yards per carry. Averages 243.4 yards passing per game along with 17.6 yards per completion.
Highlights
The D1 Army commit has had an all-around great season for East. Diaz has posted 707 yards receiving on 42 receptions averaging a career best 16.8 yards per catch. Diaz has also added 4 receiving touchdowns. On special teams in the return game Diaz has totaled 293 yards on 10 punt returns and 3 punt return touchdowns. If Brighton wants to win the game they’d be wise not to punt the football to Diaz.
Highlights
The Syracuse University commit has done damage all season long for the Eagles of East High. A player who can play on either side of the ball at the college level. As a receiver Wiggins Jr. has put up 728 yards on 36 receptions and 11 receiving touchdowns. On defense Ervin has 73 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 1 sack and 6 interceptions with 5 of them being returned for touchdowns. Wiggins Jr. also added a kickoff return for a touchdown giving Wiggins Jr. 17 total touchdowns on the season.
Tyler who’s a Merrimack commit as a defensive back is finishing out his quarterback prep career for the Brighton Bruins. Tyler has completed 58 of 98 pass attempts for 708+ yards and 12 passing touchdowns against 2 interceptions. Also added 402 yards on the ground and 5 touchdowns this season.
Highlights
Parks the starting running back for the Brighton Bruins has been a workhorse all season for the 4th seeded Bruins. Gavin through 9 games this season has averaged 134.6 yards per carry, good for 1,212 yards on 198 carries for a solid 6.1 yards per carry. And Parks has added 13 rushing touchdowns to go along with his impressive rushing output.
