McDonald is an extremely intriguing traits prospect who has a few FBS offers under his belt. This offseason, it was clear McDonald was a clear traits eval. Tall, long, and fast. He is playing mostly off the ball, but with his frame, he likely projects more as an edge defender. His speed is impressive, but it looks like he has grown into himself more and has more horizontal agility. There is plenty of upside here, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see his recruitment take a step forward as more tape gets out there.

McDonald is a tall, lean EDGE prospect who is now listed up to 207 pounds. The play strength is still coming around for McDonald, but he is finding the field regardless. Whether on or off the ball, he plays as a true run-and-chase defender and helps squeeze the offense horizontally. His length helps him cast a wide net as a tackler. Now, he just needs to continue to bulk up to be better equipped to battle with blockers and get ball carriers down.

He has plenty of speed, giving him the range to chase the football sideline to sideline and run the QB backward. He does a good job settling down in an alley and mirroring ball carriers before making tackles. Despite being thinner, he fights hard against contact. As he gets bigger, he is going to grow as a block shedder. He still has two years of development ahead of him to unlock his full potential.
