Continue ReadingWith week one in the books, it’s time to look at another group of underclassmen in Oklahoma worth taking note of as we progress through the early parts of the 2020 season. This week we have a couple of returning starters with a few scholarship offers as well as some guys who are looking to make the most of their first season as starters or key contributors.
Austin Havens – QB Owasso – Class of 2023
Though he had to battle in fall camp and in the first couple games of the season, it looks as if Havens will be the guy moving forward for the Rams. With that being said, Havens inherits one of the better rosters in the state with a nice combination of experience and youngsters. Make no mistake though, Austin Havens is no chaperone for this loaded squad Owasso boasts. Havens has great size at 6’4″ 190 pounds with plenty of room to bulk up and fill out his frame, and so far through two games, he has shown great arm strength and accuracy along with encouraging anticipation and footwork in the pocket. I may be jumping the gun a bit here, but with the talent the Rams bring in every season, Havens could have a Ben Harris Ben Harris 6'1" | QB Carl Albert | 2021 State OK / Mason Williams Mason Williams 5'10" | QB Bixby | 2021 State OK type career in terms of wins and accomplishments by the time he graduates because it is not often that a team like Owasso has a QB this talented start for 3 seasons.
Rickey Hunt Jr – RB Millwood – Class of 2023
Last week in our underclassmen spotlight we hit on 4 of our top players in the class of 2023 and let me tell you what it was hard to keep Rickey Hunt Jr off that list. Though his freshman season was cut short due to injury, Hunt flashed some incredible athleticism and agility in the 2 games he played. In those games and so far this season, he has shown great vision and contact balance along with good one-cut ability. Hunt already has an offer from Iowa State despite only playing 3 games in his varsity career, so the sky is truly the limit for Rickey Hunt Jr moving forward.
Parker Andrews Parker Andrews 6'4" | DL Norman North | 2023 State OK – DL Norman North – Class of 2023
Parker Andrews Parker Andrews 6'4" | DL Norman North | 2023 State OK is another player who has received a lot of hype coming into this season and for good reason. Last year as a freshman, Andrews showed flashes of domination on the defensive line thanks to the rare combination of size, speed, and power that he possesses. Now as a full-time starter this season, we will most likely see him dominate on a more consistent level and with that, the college scholarships are going to come in bunches.
Kaden Stanton Kaden Stanton 6'5" | OL Beggs | 2023 State OK – OL Beggs – Class of 2023
Other than Jonathan Ashford Jonathan Ashford 6'5" | 290 lbs | OL Edmond Santa Fe | 2023 State OK of Edmond Santa Fe, Kaden Stanton Kaden Stanton 6'5" | OL Beggs | 2023 State OK may be the top offensive lineman in Oklahoma’s class of 2023. At 6’5″ 285 pounds Stanton already has great size for his age and even has room to bulk up a little more. In the run game, Stanton is flat out dominant and has the ability to run guys off the field on every snap. In the passing game, he has a little developing to do but has shown some quick feet and violent hands which is an encouraging sign that his pass protection skills will come in time as he gains more experience on the practice field and on Friday nights.
RJ Jackson RJ Jackson 6'4" | DL Choctaw | 2023 State OK – ATH Choctaw – Class of 2023
RJ Jackson RJ Jackson 6'4" | DL Choctaw | 2023 State OK is one of the most exciting prospects in the class of 2023 in terms of potential. As a Sophmore, Jackson is currently 6’4″ 220 pounds and is often a man amongst boys on the field. Choctaw has used him in a variety of roles such as tight end, wide receiver, and even as an H-back hybrid player out of the backfield. Jackson’s ceiling is limitless and with Chase Jackson Chase Jackson 6'1" | WR Choctaw | 2021 State OK ’s season-ending injury, RJ should be getting a lot more action as a larger portion of Choctaw’s offensive production is passed on to him now.
