has a high ranking for our 2027 class for many reasons. He’s an explosive athlete who can rush from multiple positions. He can get into the backfield quickly and has the proper size to be a P4 pass rusher. He holds offers from Cincinnati, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Western Michigan, Boston College, and Iowa.

Mercer is a great EDGE prospect. He can align in a three-point stance as well as stand up within Winton Woods’ 3-4 defense. He is quick to shed bocks, flashes explosiveness as a pass rusher, and displays a great motor in chasing down ballcarriers.

Jaylen is having a very good Sophomore season in 2024. His great play has helped the Winton Woods Warriors to a 9-1 record where they have held opposing offenses to just 8 points per game. He plays primarily at DE. Against the pass, he shows elite quickness off the ball before penetrating the LOS. He plays with excellent closing speed before finishing up with a sack. Against the run, he is very strong at the point of attack and displays good use of hands and physical toughness before disengaging. He shows great form as he makes the tackle behind the LOS for a TFL.

Jaylen is a big bodied tight end coming out of the state of Ohio. At 6-foot-3 and 210-pounds he has impressive size coupled with his athleticism, Jaylen is seemingly impossible to cover in the pass game. This past season he picked up an offer from Kentucky, and is also reportedly already starting to hear from Cincinnati Bearcats too. The game-changing aspect to his game is his speed. There are not many kids at his level that can move like he can with the size that he has, probably due in part to his ability on the basketball court. Jaylen is more than capable of going deep on the field and getting open when his team needs it most. The most important aspect of Jaylen’s game that makes him elite is his catching ability. Jaylen is sure handed and has no problem bringing in passes that come his way. Jaylen has already proven to be a force early on in his career and he should continue to reel in scholarship offers.
