North hills started an unflattering campaign to start the 2022 season going 0-4 thus far. NHHS head coach Pat Carey will have to rely on weapons like John Green Jr & Cooper Thompson to pull out the upset. Penn Hills is headlined by FBS recruits Julian Dugger Julian Dugger 6'4" | 200 lbs | QB Penn Hills | 2024 State PA , Cam Thomas & Raion Strader Raion Strader 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Penn Hills | 2023 State PA . Will the real Indians please stand up? We shall see who is ready to take the mascot crown this evening.
Dugger is a bonafide Power 5 recruit with offers from Pitt, Toledo & UMASS. The lefty QB has great arm strength & launches accurate deep balls with a flick of the wrist. He is effortlessly mobile in the pocket while always Keeping his eyes down field. When Julian decides to pull the ball down & run he’s capable of scoring from anywhere on the field. Dugger’s good at rolling out or completing passes on all 3 levels from the pocket. He has FBS level size & strength with a picture perfect high throwing release.
Highlights
Amir Kelly
Amir Kelly
Kelly has a good burst & a second gear when he accelerates past defenders. He’s a very compact RB that safeties often bounce off of coming up in run support. He possesses good balance & patience with the ball in his hands. He has above average lateral quickness along with breakaway speed. Amir is just as good at interior runs as he is with exterior ones. Kelly’s change of direction speed is above average.
Kenneth Eason
Kenneth Eason
Kenneth is a scholarship level recruit with a lot of potential. He is patient in press man & doesn’t give up his inside easily. Ken has displayed good hips & speed in cover 3 staying over top the X & also defending the seem route. Eason is a physical blocker on offense & a fearless tackler on defense. He’s done a good job contesting balls that have come his way, but sometimes he gets caught looking in the backfield. I believe he will continue to improve as the season develops.
The 2023 FBS recruit is already committed to the Miami (OH) RedHawks. Strader is a lock down corner that’s able to play press or off man technique. His speed makes him equally dangerous returning the football & stretching the defense at WR on deep routes. He’s a very physical stand your ground, hands on press man type of corner. Raion takes pleasure in coming up to assist in run support & packs a powerful collision. He has elite ball skills at both the WR & CB positions.
Hundley has a strong base & also has a lot of pound for pound strength. He’s capable of playing DE or the interior DL positions. Hundley has the frame to add weight & still be explosive off of the ball. He has the tendency to rise up sometimes coming out of his stance rushing upfield. KH plays physical & has the motor to run things down from behind defensively. Right now at 6’4 240 lbs he’s kind of light for the OT position on the next level. If he naturally adds 30-40 lbs before next season he will be one of best OT prospects in the WPIAL. Otherwise he will be a Terrell Suggs type of 5 technique DE collegiately.
The Junior DB has one FBS scholarship offer to Akron presently. Cam is a playmaker that likes to come down and punish ball carriers. As far as DB fundamentals go he has good hips, precise steps breaking, & a good pedal. He runs the alley as if he’s not fearful of contact. In cover 2 he’s good at coming off the Hash & defending the sideline. Cameron’s also a good form tackler that keeps his head up during contact. Thomas has a good feel for diagnosing the appropriate tackling angles in run pursuit. His play recognition is sharp, & he triggers fast coming down into box on rushing plays. His top end speed was displayed a few times running down RBs on film. He plays the ball at the highest point & displayed a good vertical leap.
Green is an athlete that I like as a DB on the college level. He isn’t afraid to come up & hit from his SS position. I think he has a high football IQ which will translate well playing centerfield on rolling single high safety coverages. John contested passes well when he had the opportunity. The senior signal caller is athletic, but he’s also capable of completing passes from the pocket. A couple of his deep balls did hang up in the air too long & allowed defenders the chance to catch up. John is very mobile & he’s not scared to pull the ball down if the pocket collapses. He is good at throwing off of play action and rollout concepts.
At 6’3 260 Logan will grow into an interchangeable OL that’s capable of playing Center, Guard & Tackle. He plays with a nice low center of gravity. Greer even moved a couple bigger DL out of the box due to having a better pad level. He plays with a tremendous effort which will be a golden attribute on the next level. Logan has been getting a lot of attention from FCS & D2 programs.
Highlights
Cooper Thompson
Cooper Thompson
Thompson has speed & is a very elusive ball carrier. He’s talented at getting by the re-routers & getting back on his route. At DB he displayed sound open field tackling technique running the alley. His fluid hips allow him to cover a lot of ground whether he’s in cover 2 or single high safety coverages. He showed adequate ball skills contesting passes, but I want to see some turnovers from Cooper.
Logan Johnson
Logan Johnson
Logan is a good run blocking TE, whether he’s offset at the Hback or attached to OL at Y position. He plays basketball too so he is mobile enough to run down the seem & run intermediate routes effectively. I look forward to seeing how North Hills continues to use his athletic decent size frame.
