The crown jewel for Clarion, this is the first out of eight career updates where Cam Thomas found himself outside of the Top 100. A huge land for the Golden Eagles. Four straight Top 100 selections, now 34 spots out of achieving that mark for a fifth consecutive update. A division one talent headed to play PA D2 ball, nothing new in this state.rn

Evaluation

Cameron Thomas Cameron Thomas 5'11" | 190 lbs | DB Penn Hills | 2024 State PA is one of the better safeties in this class. He shows very good skills playing as a free safety. Thomas excels at reading the play design and the eyes on the quarterback and then breaking on the ball. He has very good ball skills and shows them off with his big-time interceptions. He also does a good job coming upfield and making good tackles in the open field. Thomas looks like a Division 2-type prospect.

Thomas has offers from Akron and Maine at the moment. He has been competing and showing off his talents at various prospect camps this summer, including Kent State, Youngstown State, and Robert Morris. Cameron‘s a versatile DB, that’s capable of playing safety or cornerback. He showcases tremendous ball skills and is a physical tackler that runs the alley.

Cameron currently only holds one FBS offer from Akron. He reminds me a lot of Cruce Brookins Cruce Brookins 6'2" | 180 lbs | ATH Steel Valley | 2023 State PA from Steel Valley in the 2023 class. He is an aggressive defensive back who can deliver big hits. Cam has a great tempo and low pad level when backpedaling. He has sharp route recognition and is particularly aggressive when playing off the hash in cover 2. He is a versatile athlete who can also play cornerback, as demonstrated in his film. He displays good speed when playing slot WR and during his interception returns. His sharp ball skills allow him to consistently contest passes. He is not afraid to run the alley and cause big collisions. Cam is well-suited to contribute on multiple fronts on special teams. I believe Cam is worthy of more FBS opportunities and most certainly FCS. 

The Junior DB has one FBS scholarship offer to Akron presently. Cam is a playmaker that likes to come down and punish ball carriers. As far as DB fundamentals go he has good hips, precise steps breaking, & a good pedal. He runs the alley as if he’s not fearful of contact. In cover 2 he’s good at coming off the Hash & defending the sideline. Cameron’s also a good form tackler that keeps his head up during contact. Thomas has a good feel for diagnosing the appropriate tackling angles in run pursuit. His play recognition is sharp, & he triggers fast coming down into box on rushing plays. His top end speed was displayed a few times running down RBs on film. He plays the ball at the highest point & displayed a good vertical leap. 

Cam does have one FBS offer from Akron, but if he plays like he is capable that number will rise dramatically. The Junior will be on another loaded Penn Hills roster looking to win the WPIAL. Cam is a coach’s son that loves to compete & I suspect that he will do just that in 22′ .
