This conference includes Pine-Richland, Woodland Hills, Penn Hills, North Hills, Shaler, and Fox Chapel. Lots of good football players in this conference. I am new to WPIAL but I am quickly finding out who are the good players in this region. Below is some of the best players in the Northeast Conference.
Ryan Cory Ryan Cory 6'4" | 285 lbs | OL Pine-Richland | 2024 State PA Pine-Richland. Cory played right guard for Pine-Richland and he did not disappoint. He is very athletic lineman that can pull and get down field and block smaller defenders. He is very strong and is able to take on defensive lineman and push them off the ball. He is particularly good at pulling and kicking out against defensive ends. He is also very good at doubling teaming on a defensive tackle then peeling off to block a linebacker. Against pass rush Cory did a good job holding his own and protecting the quarterback. He projects as a Division 1 player with plenty of opportunities available going forward.
Highlights
Julian Dugger Julian Dugger 6'4" | 200 lbs | QB Penn Hills | 2024 State PA Penn Hills. Dugger is a true duel threat quarterback. He is dynamic as a runner in a zone read scheme or qb power. He is also deadly when he scrambles and he can find receivers open downfield. He can also tuck the ball down and run for 1st downs. Dugger is also a good passer that excels at throwing the deep ball. He has good accuracy and can make all the throws. The left handed quarterback also is very intriguing because of his size. He sits 6’4″ and definitely looks the part. Dugger recently got a offer from Howard University. He will have a good chance to play division 1 football.
Kelsey Hundley Kelsey Hundley 6'4" | 255 lbs | OL Penn Hills | 2024 State PA Penn Hills. Well we covered Dugger the starting qb for Penn Hills, so next up was Dugger’s left tackle. Hundley is a really athletic lineman. He is excellent against speed rushers off the edge because of his athleticism he is able to shield the defenders and not allow them to get the edge. He also has a nasty streak. Several times on film he pancaked a kid and made sure the kid did not get up. Again what stands out on film is Hundleys athleticism. To play at the next level Hundley will probably need to put on some weight which shouldn’t be an issue for him since he has the length for that position. Hundley should have a good opportunity to play CFB in the future.
Steven Jenkins Steven Jenkins 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Gateway | 2024 State PA Woodland Hills. Jenkins is a legit corner back who makes plays all over the field. One of the best parts of his game is how he is not afraid to come up and make a tackle. He is a very physical corner who is good at coming up and making tackles. If you run a wide receiver screen to his side he will run through the offensive blocker and most likely make the tackle. The other part about his game is he has good ball skills. He breaks on the ball very well and closes towards the offensive player very well. Finally Jenkins has good speed and is able to shadow and follow wide receivers very well. Jenkins projects as a division 1 prospect that should get plenty of looks going forward. He recently visited Temple and Miami of Ohio.
Cameron Thomas Cameron Thomas 5'11" | 190 lbs | DB Penn Hills | 2024 State PA Penn Hills. Another Penn Hills player on my list, impressive group of players. Thomas is a true play maker who can play anywhere on the field. On his film he played cornerback, safety, and wide receiver. He makes plays all over the field. He is really good at safety where he can play the angles on coverage, but still come up field and hit you. He has a lot of potential as a free safety at the next level. He can also play corner where he can drop in coverage and come up and make plays. He even caught passes at wide receiver. Thomas biggest attribute is he is super athletic and everything comes naturally to him. He projects as a Division 1 football player that should blow up after a strong off season and Senior year.
Carter Lance Carter Lance 6'3" | 275 lbs | DL Penn Hills | 2024 State PA Penn Hills. Another Penn Hills player and Lance does not disappoint. Lance is a stout defensive lineman who creates havoc for the offensive line. He is very strong and can easily push back offensive lineman. He has a natural ability to use leverage and his hands very well from his defensive tackle position. He is also athletic enough to be used off the edge at times and to use him on a stunt. Lance has a lot of potential and should have good chance to play at the next level. He just needs to continue to get stronger and have a big Senior year.
Highlights
Ethan Pillar Pine Richland. Piller is a bowling ball at running back. He never goes down after the first hit. He is very good at taking the first hit and keeps going. He also has a 1 cut and go style and that translates well on film. He is also good at being a lead blocker. Several times on film he would lead block for his quarterback on QB power. He also showed on film he has good hands and catch the ball well. Pillar has been lightly recruited, but he should get some college looks with a good Senior year. I would bank on his mindset and his ability to play at that level.
