2028 Rankings Update: Top 10 Overall

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">With the 2026 season set to kick off, we've updated our 2028 California rankings to reflect the latest evaluations and projection. This group features a talented mix of proven playmakers and rising stars, led by prospects with the physical tools, production, and long-term upside to emerge as some of the nation's top recruits. Here's a look at the Top 10 overall prospects in the Golden State.</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Weddle holds the #1 overall spot in the CA 2028 player rankings entering the 2026 season. A premier national talent that is recruitable at multiple positions but projects as a difference making safety armed with elite instincts, play range, closing speed, and ball skills. His quick diagnosis ability allows him to anticipate action and turn it into game-breaking plays. Throw back style player that plays with an edge and looks to set the tone physically every snap. He's elite in every OT category at 6'7” 305 lbs. Outstanding athleticism with the feet and body control to block in space. Great ability to mirror defenders and stay square against speed off the edge. Length shows up in pass protection maintaining separation and being able to wash out rushers wide to keep a clean pocket. Plays with powerful strength at the POA generating movement and finishing blocks in the run game. Looks to finish all his blocks with violent but controlled aggression. Played majority at OT but could see him slide inside to OG with an excellent frame and the mobility that translate to the top of the college level. Fires out of his stance with good leverage and pad level that carries through contact. Checks all the boxes combining elite range, speed, and diagnosis ability to impact every level of the field. All around game speed including change of direction and long speed allow him transition smoothly and disrupt throwing lanes rapidly. High caliber ball skills consistently tracking the football and winning at the catch point with timing, body control, and high point ability. 36 offers.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Another elite level talent in the secondary blending range, football IQ, and physicality into a complete skillset at the safety position. Acceleration and sustained top end speed gives him the ability to play the ball vertically and sideline to sideline. Decisive with breaks triggering to the play location without hesitation. Reads the play before it develops to take away additional yardage after the catch or second level runs. Great ability to create and cash in on turnover opportunities. A true lockdown corner, he erases opposing receivers from the game with his change of direction, twitch, and loose hips. Mirrors routes without wasted movement, stays glued through the stem, and has the recovery burst to close down separation in a hurry. He drives on every route with speed and challenges every throw making him one of the most complete corners in the country with 25 total offers to his name entering his junior season.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Hicks makes a big jump into the top 10. Good size and length for the CB position at 6'1” 180 lbs. giving him an edge in coverage and at the catch point. Elite level plant and drive ability showing the leg drive and acceleration out of the break to recover and eliminate separation. Maintains good pad level and leverage through the back pedal, transition, and break staying low and balanced throughout the play. His fast twitch and reactionary quickness allows him to stay in phase and cut off routes before they can develop. Great combination of technically ability and natural athleticism. 31 offers with a top 8 that includes Oregon, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Miami, Texas A&M, USC, and UCLA.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Anderson continues his rise moving from up #18 to #8. He's a dynamic athlete whose skillset translates easily to either side of the ball at WR or DB. Explosive playmaker with elite caliber speed, capable of flipping the field as a pass catcher or locking down opponents in press man at CB. His fluidity and ability to sustain speed while changing directions stands out. Outstanding ball skills round out his skillset showing good judgement and body control to make plays on the ball outside his frame and win at the catch point in contested situations on both sides. Saw his recruitment skyrocket this offseason now holding 13 D1 offers.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Koo is new to the top 10 moving up 16 spots to #9 overall and is the top ranked WR. Outstanding technical skillset combined with elite level ball tracking and adjustment ability. Quick off the line using a wide variety of release moves to avoid contact and get into his route without disrupting route timing. His ability to mix up tempo and sell breaks keeps defenders off balance and guessing. Stands out tracking ball flight and making difficult adjustments outside his frame, over his shoulder and through contact. Basketball player whose athleticism and natural movement translate smoothly to the OL and have resulted in his skyrocketing recruitment. Footwork and body control give him a natural feel for getting to the spot on time and setting angles. Shows he can accelerate his feet on contact and overpower opponents at the POA to create immediate movement. In pass protection, he shows the feet to stay in front when mirroring counter movements and the foot speed to recover without getting overextended. Still raw in his technique but the physical upside tied to his measurables and movement skills is elite. 14 from top programs such as Oregon, UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, Alabama, and Ohio State but will continue to pull in high level attention as he gains experience.</p>
