The Owasso Rams had a roller coaster of a week at the end of their 2024 campaign. First off, they came up a yard short of winning the state championship. Then their head coach left for Union a few days later. Then their old head coach came out of retirement for one more run with the Rams. Owasso then stumbled out of the gates to start 2025, with losses to the top two teams in 6A-1 with Bixby and Jenks. But the Rams quickly got it together and didn't lose again in the regular season. That included a big win over Broken Arrow to open up district play. And that win would put them on a path to ultimately capture the district championship. They would be tested by Edmond Memorial but in the end they would score a 10-point victory over the Bulldogs. The regular season came to a close with Owasso at 8-2 and playing some of their best football. They faced Yukon in the quarterfinal round, just two weeks after playing the Millers in the final week of the regular season. After beating them by 20 in week ten, they beat them 45-7 to set up a semifinal showdown with Jenks. And for the second straight year, they knocked off the Trojans in the semifinals to punch their ticket back to the state championship game. And once again, they would see the Bixby Spartans. But this was a different Owasso team from the one that lost 49-21 in week zero. This was an Owasso team that was ready for the fight necessary to upend a dynasty like the one Bixby has going. The Rams pushed the Spartans for all four quarters but it wasn't enough as the Spartans prevailed 31-17. For the second straight year and the third time in the last four, Owasso had to walk off UCO's field with a silver ball while Bixby walked off with gold. And there's no doubt that the chip on their shoulder has gotten a little bigger.

2026 OUTLOOK

Once again, the Owasso Rams come into the season with expectations of contending for the state championship. Last season, they improved mightily throughout the year and would start to play at their best when it mattered the most. That might be the blueprint for the Rams as they look ahead to the 2026 football season. Owasso has to replace the majority of their starters on both sides of the ball. So new faces will have to step up and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Rams play it back and play some of their best football towards the end of the regular season and into the playoffs. Offensively, the Rams will look very different at the skill positions. They have to replace their top wide receivers and one of the state's best running backs. They do bring back a few offensive linemen but most importantly, they will have a three-year starter at the quarterback position. Having that kind of experience and leadership will put the Rams in a really good position on that side of the ball. Defensively, the Rams will also have quite a few new names on that side of the ball. At all three levels, Owasso will need new names to step up. But you look at the roster and specifically on defense, and there are not only some returning playmakers but there are some new additions that will make this defense a unit that could do some real damage in 2026. Then you look at the schedule for this season and it's going to be baptism by fire for the Rams this fall. They will play three of the best teams in 6A-1, along with two of the best teams in 6A-2 in the first five games of the year. The early season schedule is brutal. But that could be just what this team needs to grow up in a hurry if they are going to make another run and contend for the 6A-1 state championship in 2026.

Owasso has to replace two wide receivers that signed with D1 programs from last year's team. Look for 2028 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1828534' first='Braelon' last='Keys'] to be one of the emerging players for the Rams on offense this season. If this offseason was any indication of what Keys could do for Owasso this fall, he's primed for a breakout season. In all honesty, it reminds us of two years ago where Tahkari Bethel had a dominant offseason and then carried that into a breakout season in the fall of 2024. Keys feels like he's on that same path. He was dominant this offseason every time we got a chance to watch him in person. Now, he looks to have that same breakout moment this fall.

2027 defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='696152' first='Cole' last='Campbell'] is a prospect that we've liked for a while now and he has a chance to be one of the main leaders of this defense in 2026. Campbell has always been a prospect that has had a high upside but has battled through injuries at various times in his career. But when he's on the field, he's routinely one of the better players on the field. He had a solid offseason and Owasso's coaches are expecting Campbell to be one of their top players on that side of the ball. At his best, Campbell is a ball hawk safety that can come up to the line of scrimmage and smack some people around. We're fired up to see what kind of senior year he has.

Owasso got a huge addition this summer when 2027 defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1035135' first='DaWayne' last='Jones'] came back to the Rams after spending the last two years at Booker T Washington. Jones is a Kansas State commit and he's been one of the state's best DL prospects for a few years now. He joins an Owasso defense that had a lot of holes that they needed to fill in the front seven. Not only does Jones fill a major need, he gives them one of the more disruptive players along the line of scrimmage. Jones spent his freshman year at Owasso and his older brother was a member of the 2017 state championship team. Now, Jones looks to help lead the Rams back to the top of 6A-1.

2027 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1235926' first='Drew' last='Frankenfield'] is returning this fall for his third season as QB1 of the Rams. He'll be arguably the most experienced quarterback in Class 6A-1 this season and he's taken his team to back to back state championship games. And now, he'll have more on his shoulders than ever before as the Rams do have to replace a lot in the skill department. But having Frankenfield running this offense is going to put them in a position to come along much quicker on the offensive side of the ball. In the last two seasons, Frankenfield has thrown for nearly 5,700 yards and 60 touchdowns and he's firmly established himself as one of the top QB's in the state.

2028 wide receiver and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1642605' first='Holt' last='Wilson'] is another addition to this Owasso roster after spending his first two seasons at nearby Rejoice Christian. Wilson was banged up as a sophomore but was still a critical part to their run to another state championship, specifically on the defensive side of the ball. Wilson is an absolute ball hawk on defense as he's been one of the state's leaders in interceptions in the last two seasons. He should help Owasso quite a bit on both sides of the ball. While a lot of our coverage about Wilson has been his ability on defense, he still has made plenty of plays on the offensive side of the ball and will give them depth at wide receiver.

Having the quarterback returning certainly helps an inexperienced offense but you also have to have the guys up front. 2027 offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='2246248' first='Hunter' last='Goodenow'] is one of several offensive linemen that return for the Rams in 2026. Looking at some of the guys on the line of scrimmage, Goodenow will certainly get a lot of attention this season. He measures in at 6'5 and nearly 300 pounds. He's going to be in a position to be the cornerstone for this Owasso offensive line this season. If he's able to take a major step forward and impact the game the way we think he might, the Owasso offense is going to be in a really good position by the time November rolls around.

2028 star [player_tooltip player_id='1328118' first='Kamieon' last='Compton-Nero'] made a major announcement this offseason when he posted that he was moving over to Owasso after winning back to back titles at Rejoice Christian. Last season, he was clearly one of the best players in the state as a sophomore and is currently rated as one of the top prospects in the state's 2028 class, with offers from all over the country at this point. He played quarterback and safety for Rejoice Christian but with Owasso having a three-year starter at QB, the former Rejoice Christian star will be used heavily on defense. But don't be surprised if you see him running out on offense throughout the season at several different positions.

2026 SCHEDULE

Aug. 28th - Bixby
- For the fifth consecutive season, the Rams will open up the regular season against the Bixby Spartans. They'll host Bixby in week zero but the bigger question about this match-up surrounds the future. In each of the last four seasons, Owasso has played Bixby in the regular season and then again in the playoffs. They are 0-4 in those playoff rematches with Bixby.
Sept. 11th - AT Broken Arrow
- After a week off following the Bixby opener, the Rams face another 6A-1 powerhouse as they travel to face Broken Arrow in week two. This game goes back to being a non-district affair after playing in district play the last two seasons. The Rams are looking to continue their recent success against Broken Arrow. They've won four straight and eight of the last nine.
Sept. 18th - AT Sand Springs
- The Rams will go back on the road in week three to face defending 6A-2 state champion Sand Springs. Owasso has played the Sandites in non-district play in each of the last two years. In both situations, Owasso has prevailed by four touchdowns or more. Last season, they beat the Sandites 45-17. That's the last time that Sand Springs has lost a game.
Sept. 25th - Stillwater
- While most teams will be starting district play in week four, Owasso will be wrapping up their non-district schedule here with a home game against Stillwater. These two teams haven't met since the 6A split began in 2014. The Rams beat Stillwater 30-20 back in 2013 and that's the last time these two met on the football field but that will change in 2026.
Oct. 2nd - AT Jenks
- The Rams open up district play on the road in week five against the Jenks Trojans. On paper, it looks like these are the top two teams in the district so the district title could be decided right here. The Trojans will certainly be ready to welcome Owasso to town. The Rams have ended Jenks' season in the 6A-1 semifinals in each of the last two seasons.
Oct. 9th - Moore
- The second half of the regular season begins with a home game against the Moore Lions. These two teams haven't been in the same district since 2021. They played each other every year from 2014-2021 but that stopped when they switched districts. During that run, the Rams went 6-2 against the Lions. They won 49-28 the last time these two played.
Oct. 15th - AT Yukon
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, the Rams will head west for the first time in 2026 with a week seven meeting against Yukon. Owasso beat the Millers twice last season. First they won 47-27 in the final week of the regular season. Then they met two weeks later in the quarterfinals and the Rams prevailed 45-7. They've won five straight in the series, dating back to 2022.
Oct. 23rd - Edmond Santa Fe
- Owasso hosts Edmond Santa Fe in week eight and the Rams will be looking for their seventh straight win in the series. Owasso beat Santa Fe 42-8 in district play a year ago but these two teams have also played some close games. The Wolves are also going to look different this season as they will have a first year head coach for the first time in a while.
Oct. 30th - AT Deer Creek
- The Rams will head west again in week nine, this time they'll face Deer Creek. These two teams are new district opponents. The Antlers are somewhat new to 6A-1 altogether after moving up from 6A-2 back in 2024. The only time these two teams met in recent memory was in the 2024 playoffs. The Rams won 40-26 in the 6A-1 quarterfinals.
Nov. 6th - Union
- The regular season comes to an end with a week ten clash against Union at home. And it goes without saying but there's a high likelihood that there will be something to play for when the Redhawks come to town. Owasso has beaten Union in each of the last two years and three of the last four meetings. This will be a big game to wrap up the regular season.

NOTABLE

Bill Blankenship is in his ninth season (and second stint) of coaching Owasso football and the last decade has been without a doubt the best in program history. Before Blankenship took over prior to the 2017 season, the Rams had played for one state championship in program history. That came in 1974 and ended in a 7-7 tie against Ada. In the last nine seasons, the Rams have played for the state championship five times and won two gold balls in 2017 and 2019. Owasso ended the Jenks and Union stranglehold on the state's largest class and now they're looking to end Bixby's stranglehold on the state's largest class. The Rams have played for the state championship three times in the last four seasons and each time, they had to walk away with the silver ball as the Bixby Spartans celebrated. That gets old and it gets old very quickly for a program like Owasso. There's no doubt that this is the golden age of Owasso football but the Rams are looking to actually hold up gold when December rolls around in 2026.
