Not only did the Tigers bring back the majority of their starters, but some of those starters would be two or three-year starters in 2025. So there were plenty of reasons to be excited about the possibilities in 2025. And early on in the year, the Tigers didn't give anyone a reason to doubt what they could do in the 5A title race. They dominated their way through the non-district slate and then entered a district that was going to be competitive week in and week out. When you look back at the season, Pryor was never really pushed for all four quarters. They averaged over 50 points per game and dominated their way to a district championship and a perfect regular season. They had a week ten showdown with Del City to decide the district title and it was a match-up of top five teams. It felt like the playoffs started early and Pryor won 51-35. They would face Bishop Kelley in the first round and that would actually be their closest game to date, with the Tigers winning by ten points. That set up a quarterfinal rematch with Newcastle. This time, they would get the Racers on their home turf. But unfortunately for Pryor, the result was the same and the season came to an end with a 40-30 loss to the Racers. For the second straight year, Pryor made it to the quarterfinal round but were ousted by Newcastle. Now, Pryor looks to turn the page to the 2026 season and follow up arguably their best year in program history with an even better 2026 campaign.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>2026 OUTLOOK</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>For the second straight season, the Pryor Tigers come into the year as a top five team in Class 5A so the expectations are for them to be that state title contender. Unlike last season, Pryor comes into this year needing to replace the majority of their starters. They only return five starters on offense and another five on defense. But if you look at some of the new faces that will be cracking the starting lineup this fall, they aren't all that new to the bright lights on Friday nights. Five starters return for the Tigers on offense and they'll need to replace a three-year starter at quarterback. But Pryor is confident with what they have at the QB position and whoever is back there is going to have one of the best wide receiver groups in the state, regardless of class. Pryor got several additions to the roster in the skill position department and that should help them reload quicker than normal this season. Will they have the ability to average over 50 points per game like we saw last season? Only time will tell on that question. But they should have an offense that can score with just about anyone in Class 5A. Defensively, the Tigers also bring back five starters and while they have to replace some names from last year's squad, look for the front seven to be the strength on this side of the ball. Last season, Pryor went undefeated in the regular season and dominated their way to a district title. Last season, Hooker returned from a leg injury during his sophomore year and was our Comeback Player Of The Year after he caught 50 passes for nearly 900 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also returned multiple kicks for scores and had a pair of rushing touchdowns. Simply put, anytime Hooker has the ball in his hands, he's going to be a threat to score from anywhere on the field. In 2024, LeFrere emerged as a player to know in the state's 2028 class when he was a ball hawk of a cornerback with quite a few interceptions. Last season, LeFrere was a strong weapon on both sides of the ball. This offseason, LeFrere moved over to Bixby and went through spring drills with the Spartans. But this summer, he moved back to Pryor and rejoined a Tiger team where he will be a luxury item on offense with how many playmaking receivers they have. Last season, Torres gained a lot of attention late in the regular season when he had to play “emergency QB” for the Pirates and ended up having just over 60 carries in a single game. So needless to say, Torres comes into the Pryor backfield as a guy who can be a workhorse. Overall, Torres finished with over 200 carries for over 1,200 yards. He's not the only guy to watch at the running back position in the 2028 class. Last year, Parks only had 30 catches on the season and still went for over 800 yards and ten touchdowns. A third of his catches were touchdowns and he averaged over 25 yards per catch. Parks is that prototypical big play target that is going to be a quarterback's best friend as the Tigers get near the end zone. He also tore it up on the 7v7 circuit this offseason and in our opinion, is one of the most underrated prospects in the state's 2027 class going into this year.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["1831600"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6a539cc202f1e"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">Pryor is going to need some new names to step on the defensive side of the ball but 2027 linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1831600' first='Kane' last='Douglas'] returning is going to give this group a boost. Douglas was one of their top tacklers from a season ago and now he has the opportunity to be the man in the middle of this defensive unit. We mentioned earlier how the Tigers could have a front seven that gives opponents a lot of problems this season. Having a player like Douglas returning is part of that statement. Last season, he finished with 80 tackles on the season and a handful of sacks. Williamson had a really solid junior season and he's a player that gives Pryor more depth on both sides of the line of scrimmage. If we had to pick one side of the line where Williamson feels like he's at his best, we're probably going to lean to the offense. And when you look at what the Tigers could possibly be on that side of the ball, it's hard to argue that he could have the greater impact on that side of the ball. That's arguably the biggest question coming into this season but 2028 signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='485894' first='Maddox' last='Young'] looks like he will be the guy to step into those shoes this fall. Young started his high school career at Jenks but has moved over to Pryor and appears to be the guy to start for the Tigers this season. And as you can see with some of the names that Pryor has at the wide receiver position, whoever stepped into the quarterback position was going to be successful. The Tigers have a plethora of weapons for Young to get the ball to this season. We were told about McAlvain prior to last season and how he could possibly be a breakout player for the Tigers. That was certainly the case and now we're fired up to see what he does for an encore. Last season, McAlvain finished the year with nearly 50 tackles, double digit tackles for loss and a handful of sacks. McAlvain is your prototypical defensive tackle or nose guard that just absolutely clogs up the middle of the line of scrimmage. These two programs played back in 2018 and 2019 and the Tigers lost both of those meetings. Pryor is looking to kick off the 2026 season in style with a win here but it also kicks off a very tough and competitive non-district slate.<br><strong>Sept. 4th - Coweta</strong><br>- The home opener comes in week one when Pryor will host Coweta in a match-up of defending district champions from a year ago. Coweta is back on the non-district schedule after they met in 2022 and 2023 but haven't played in the last two seasons. Coweta won both of those meetings but Pryor is looking to win this “battle of the Tigers” in 2026.<br><strong>Sept. 11th - AT Fort Smith Southside, AR.</strong><br>- The Tigers wrap up their non-district slate with another trip to Arkansas. This time, they'll head down to Fort Smith to take on the Southside Mavericks in week two. This is a program that has turned things around over the last several years and has become a consistent playoff team. It will be the last challenge for Pryor before they enter district play.&nbsp;<br><strong>Sept. 25th - Edison</strong><br>- After a week off, Pryor returns to the field in week four to open up district play. They'll open up the district slate at home, against Edison as the Eagles return to the schedule this season. Edison is a district opponent once again after they didn't play the last two seasons. They've met in district play off and on for the last 15 years.&nbsp;<br><strong>Oct. 2nd - AT Tahlequah</strong><br>- It's another “battle of the Tigers” as Pryor heads to Tahlequah in week five. These two teams have met in district play in each of the last two seasons. There was a 31-30 Tahlequah win in 2024 and then Pryor took care of business last year, winning 44-13. Both teams come into this season expecting to be playoff teams out of this district.&nbsp;<br><strong>Oct. 9th - Bishop McGuinness</strong><br>- Bishop McGuinness comes to town in week six as the Irish are a new opponent in district play. They are coming off a run to the 5A state title game a year ago and looking to make it back to Edmond in 2026. On paper, this is a match-up that could end up deciding the district championship as both teams are top five squads coming into the season.&nbsp;<br><strong>Oct. 15th - AT Nathan Hale</strong><br>- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Pryor will head to Tulsa to square off with Nathan Hale in week seven. Following their showdown with McGuinness, the Tigers will be challenged by a Hale team that is trending in the right direction. However, Pryor still has the edge in the series. Winning the last eight in a row, including last year's 54-13 victory.<br><strong>Oct. 23rd - AT Collinsville</strong><br>- The Tigers go back on the road in week eight to square off with district rival Collinsville. These two have met every year since 2011. This has been a series that has been dominated by the Cardinals but Pryor has recently turned things around. After losing 12 straight to Collinsville, they've won the last two meetings, including last year's 49-14 win.<br><strong>Oct. 30th - Claremore</strong><br>- After two straight road games, Pryor plays in front of the home fans in week nine, when they host Claremore. These two teams have faced off every year since 2010, with nearly every meeting coming in district play. It's been a fairly even match-up during this stretch but Pryor won 51-20 last year and they've taken five of the last six from the Zebras.&nbsp;<br><strong>Nov. 6th - Memorial</strong><br>- The regular season comes to an end in week ten with a home game against Memorial. The Tigers have played the Chargers in each of the last two seasons and Pryor dominated both meetings. They won 58-0 last season and that ended up being their biggest win of the 2025 campaign. Pryor will look for another win to take momentum into the playoffs.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>NOTABLE</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the cliches in sports is the phrase “knocking at the door” and “if you keep knocking, the door will eventually open” and that feels like the case for Pryor football. The Tigers have been knocking on the door pretty consistently over the last five years of being one of the top teams in Class 5A. Last season, we would make the argument that the Tigers had their best season in program history. With an undefeated regular season and a district championship, that 2025 group made a very strong argument for that claim but they fell short of that elusive semifinal appearance. Pryor hasn't been to the semifinals in over 50 years and their 1969 semifinal appearance was the only one in program history. The Tigers have never played for the state championship. Last season felt like the year where things were coming together for them to kick the door down and take that next step as a program. But for the second straight year, Newcastle slammed the door shut on that dream.
