Hagan impressed me a lot when watching him operate on the offensive line as a sophomore in last year’s state semifinals at the UNI-Dome. After more evaluation, we ranked him among our top players there. Now we have more data that expands our view. During an in-person scout when Dowling took on Cedar Rapids Kennedy on Oct. 3, Hagan was impacting the game as a defensive tackle. He showed an aptitude there, disrupting the opposition and helping his team control the trenches. Kennedy struggled to move the ball on the ground thanks in part to Hagan’s ability absorbing blocks, keeping his linebacker clean, and disengaging from them when the play came his way. Colleges are taking notice of his work on defense, and the versatility he’s already shown in high school should attract more attention.

Hagan caught my attention pretty early on when scouting the Maroons against rival Valley in the 5A state semifinals last November in Cedar Falls. Only a sophomore at the time, Hagan impressed with his power and physicality operating at left guard. He is explosive and active when engaging defensive linemen. Hagan puts them on their heels early and wins a lot of matchups playing through the whistle. Leverage helps him get under the pads of taller defenders. I saw Hagan perform during the state semifinals at the UNI-Dome in November. As a part of a young offensive line with freshmen tackles, Hagan sured up the middle while only being a 10th-grader. Lining up at left guard inside of Carter Barrett Carter Barrett 6'5" | 250 lbs | OL Dowling Catholic | 2028 State IA , Hagan helped form one of the state’s top 1-2 punches on that side. He is explosive and physical at the point of attack. Hagan often overwhelms the opponents that can’t match his power and punch. He understands leverage and using it to his advantage.
