, a linebacker at Alcoa High School. Cannon and the Tornadoes collected a 38-7 victory over Giles County last week to earn a spot in the title game against East Nashville Magnet. What I like about Cannon is his size and speed, showcasing his ability to apply pressure on the quarterback and catch the rush both in the pocket and in the backfield. Cannon also impresses due to his footwork and ability to read the running back, proving he can deter the offensive line and catch the rush. Cannon also contributes with his quickness off the snap and ability to sack the quarterback.Access all of Prep Redzone

is a beast on both sides of the ball for Alcoa High School. On defense, he shows good versatility to play off ball linebacker and edge. He is very instinctive to shoot gaps vs the run and beat blocks with quickness and technique. Cannon can rush the passer well by timing blitzes to find space and close with solid burst. On offense, he shows excellent vision to find the hole with the burst to hit the 2nd level. Cannon is elusive and quick with fluid hips which makes him very difficult to tackle. Overall, good contact balance and strength to bounce off tacklers.

When it comes to choosing Mr. Football, usually winning teams have players in the mix for top honors and the Alcoa Tornadoes could have several finalists, including Cannon. This two-way talent has been a key performer in the Tornadoes undefeated start thus far and someone that will continue to be leaned upon moving forward as the team’s lead running back. Cannon is not only producing on offense but doing so as well on defense as one of the team’s top tacklers. The competition for 3A Mr. Football will remain tough going forward but I believe in the end, this Alcoa senior should stand tall as the winner.

was quite impressive in week 3 for Alcoa High School. He showcased amazing versatility on the defensive side of the ball. He was involved on multiple plays in the backfield either blitzing from off-ball LB or winning from the edge. His sacks came from both alignments. Cannon is a very intelligent football player showing a great mix of aggressiveness and patience. Good ability to stack and track vs the run, he processed and understands where he needs to be.

A two-way talent that broke out big time last year as a junior, Cannon is a physical machine that plays with controlled violence and the type of leadership that college coaches love and can depend on game in and game out. His role should expand further this coming season as the Tornado coaching staff will be looking for him to make all the calls at middle linebacker but also contribute as possibly the teams starting running back as well. Cannon is a team first guy that any college coach would love to work with, so staying under the radar may not be something we attach to this East Tennessee talent much longer as I think those elusive offers will start coming his way soon. His game on the next level fits best on defense at middle backer where he can use his football smarts, his aggressive nature and range to shut down the run game but also rush the backfield. For Cannon to start seeing those offers come through, he must increase his agility and speed and if he does that, watch out as I think his recruitment will take off because all the intangibles attributes are there.
