Throughout the month of February, Prep Redzone Oklahoma is updating our prospect rankings for each class. And for the state’s 2027 class, we’re debuting the first batch of rankings. On Monday, we released the 2027 Top 25 and throughout the week, we’ll be putting the spotlight on different players and position groups. In this post, we’re putting that spotlight on the linebacker and defensive back positions. Earlier this week, we covered Washington linebacker Case Alexander Case Alexander 6'2" | 170 lbs | LB Washington | 2027 State OK in our Top Five Spotlight. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more 2027 prospect breakdowns!
Because of their success in Class 3A over the last several seasons, Lincoln Christian is moving up to Class 4A for at least the 2024 and 2025 seasons. It won’t be a problem for the Bulldogs. Lincoln Christian’s 2026 and 2027 classes are loaded with talent and here’s another example. Freshman defensive back Kailib Dillard Kailib Dillard 6’1″ | 170 lbs | DB Lincoln Christian | 2027 State OK is already one of the best in the state’s 2027 class and he’s right there as a borderline top five overall prospect. Dillard had an outstanding freshman season and he’s only scratching the surface on what he’ll be in three years when he’s a senior. By the time 2027 rolls around, Dillard could certainly be on a completely new level. His ceiling is off the charts.
Highlights
Southeastern Oklahoma has some serious dudes in this 2027 class. Idabel linebacker Kade Pratt Kade Pratt 6’2″ | LB Idabel | 2027 State OK is going to be a name to watch moving forward at that position. Pratt was somewhat limited in what he could do during his freshman season. He only played in about half of Idabel’s games but he’s already working on the comeback. Pratt has essentially lived in the weight room since the end of last season and is primed for a big 2024 season. Pratt was a linebacker on our radar last summer when we were previewing the 2023 season. He lived up to the hype with a productive freshman season but he’s looking to stay healthy. As long as he stays healthy, he should have a monster sophomore season.
Ardmore freshman defensive back Tyson Laster Tyson Laster 6’0″ | DB Ardmore | 2027 State OK was on our radar prior to the 2023 season and he lived up to the hype and then some. And after watching a little 7v7 already this offseason and talking with some coaches in the know, Laster is definitely a name to know moving forward. He has the chance and the potential to be one of the best cover corners in the state’s 2027 class. He’s already turning heads on the 7v7 circuit and we’re looking forward to seeing more of him this spring. Laster doesn’t look like a freshman when he’s out there on the island and he has a ton of athletic ability. Ardmore used him in multiple ways last season but he looks like a cornerback moving forward.
Meeker 2027 linebacker Roanon Wolford Roanon Wolford 6’0″ | LB Meeker | 2027 OK is a prospect we didn’t know much about until a few weeks ago. In January, we put out our “Way Too Early” previews for the 2024 season. Wolford was a player that we put the spotlight on after seeing his production from last season. And Meeker should be a team to watch this fall as well. Wolford was incredibly productive from his linebacker position as a freshman. He racked up the tackles last fall and those stats have us excited about his potential moving forward. He’s a player that we’re still trying to find out more and has an opportunity to join some of the other top linebackers in the state’s 2027 class before it’s all said and done.
Owasso freshman Cole Campbell Cole Campbell 6’0″ | 165 lbs | DB Owasso | 2027 OK was another example of a 2027 prospect starting for a defense at the highest level of competition in Oklahoma. Campbell had a really good offseason prior to his freshman year and he would earn the nod to eventually start in the secondary. We mentioned it earlier this week when talking about another Owasso freshman on this Ram defense but we love what they bring back on that side of the ball. They have young talent that seems like it’s only a matter of time before they have their breakout moment. Campbell impressed us last spring and fall and we’re looking forward to seeing more of him this offseason during the 7v7 circuit.
