Prep Redzone Oklahoma was on hand for the Sooner7 Classic 7v7 tournament in Broken Arrow over the weekend. We saw some outstanding football from start to finish and starting today and continuing over the next few days, we’ll be highlighting some of the top performers from the action we saw first hand. We kicked things off in the last few days by highlighting the top performers we saw.
Michael’s Top Performers
Jake’s Top Performers
We continue that coverage today by looking at some of the standouts from Sooner7’s 2023 18U team that had a great weekend and made it to the championship round. Be sure to stay locked into the website for more coverage from the Sooner7 Classic and as always you can follow us on Twitter for all the latest in high school football in Oklahoma. @PrepRedzoneOK
Steele Wasel Steele Wasel 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Choctaw | 2023 State OK – 2023 QB – Choctaw
A couple of guys on this list, including Steele, have been highlighted either by myself or Michael as a top performer or breakout player, so I will keep this summary short. Steele is quickly becoming one of the best QB prospects in the state and continues to improve every time I see him. He was easily one of the best QBs in the whole tournament and had some jaw-dropping throws on deep balls to sidelines that were placed perfectly. He is far from a finished product, but it is clear that the foundation for him to become the next highly touted QB in Oklahoma is there.
Micah Tease Micah Tease 6'1" | WR Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK – 2023 WR – Booker T Washington
It’s a shame that some of these guys only get to play with each other during the offseason and camps because there are a few connections between QBs and WRs on these 7v7 teams that just look so effortless and natural, and Wasel to Micah Tease Micah Tease 6'1" | WR Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK is certainly one of those. Tease was not the top performer of the weekend for the ’23 team but when the ball came his way you knew he was going to make a play before it even reached his hands. Tease is slowly becoming one of the most well-rounded WRs in the class of 23 and I feel like I see a new part of his game every time I watch him play.
Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6'4" | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK – 2023 ATH – Bixby
We’ve discussed many times here at Prep RedZone on what the best position fit for Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6'4" | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK at the next level. Sometimes we lean WR and sometimes we lean towards DL/EDGE rusher, but after this weekend I’m convinced that he’s going to be an elite TE in college. He has the size, speed, route-running ability, and in Broken Arrow, he showed time and time again that he has the vertical leaping ability and ball skills to be a mismatch no matter who is on him. The only concern for most WRs who move inside to TE at the next level is blocking, however, that is probably the least of my concerns if I have any for Luke as he never shies away from contact and could have a separate highlight reel from 2020 of him de-cleating kids in the run game. The only negative I have for him right now is that I have to wait 2 more years to see him play on Saturdays.
Dalton Person – 2023 WR/DB – Verdigris
The final player we’re hitting on from the Sooner7 ’23 team is a guy that I did not know much about coming in but left impressed. Dalton lined up in the slot and outside on occasions and flashed some encouraging traits. He had soft natural hands all weekend, ran some clean, crisp routes, and made some big plays in the RedZone when they called his number. We’d like to see some more of Dalton before we really project the level he could play at moving forward, but we liked what we saw from him on Saturday.
