I started in Pleasant Hill, where top-ranked Southeast Polk was playing host to Iowa City High. The visitors held a 7-6 lead when I turned it on and went up 14-6 shortly after that. Jackson Grabinski hit [player_tooltip player_id='1656935' first='Braden' last='Bickford'] for the first touchdown and then hit Carter Turnbough on a 62-yard pass play to set up the second score. It led me to sticking with this game for most of the night.

Southeast Polk responded quickly with an 80-yard touchdown pass from [player_tooltip player_id='1942266' first='Boston' last='Bailey'] to Bryan Degen. The Rams took a 18-14 lead into the locker room off of a touchdown run by [player_tooltip player_id='2374656' first='Adrian' last='Cooper'].

After a City turnover to start the third quarter, [player_tooltip player_id='1617589' first='Stanley' last='Cooper'] ripped off a 90-yard touchdown run to increase the Ram lead to 25-14. [player_tooltip player_id='2415059' first='Jack' last='Wolfe']'s second interception of the half was a Pick-6 on the ensuing Little Hawk possession for a 32-14 advantage.

City had an answer on its next drive when Grabinski connected with [player_tooltip player_id='1215274' first='Chayse' last='Newton'] on a touchdown bomb that made it 32-21. The Rams came back with a long drive that ended with a short field goal by Bryce Doughan that bounced off the left upright.

The Little Hawks turned the ball over on downs after that. Southeast Polk made them pay with another Bailey-to-Degen touchdown connection. The home team led, 42-21. City turned it over on downs again, this time deep in its own territory. A few plays later, [player_tooltip player_id='2374656' first='Adrian' last='Cooper'] scored from 15 yards out to push the lead to 49-21. That's how it ended up.

I had an eye on Dowling Catholic playing host to Cedar Rapids Kennedy for a bit. It looked like [player_tooltip player_id='2118876' first='Beau' last='Williams'] was thriving being quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1361134' first='Ethan' last='La Cava'] top target. Running backs [player_tooltip player_id='1588666' first='Henry' last='Smid'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1588716' first='Grayson' last='Pennington'] balanced the attack behind the O-Line led by [player_tooltip player_id='1583613' first='Carter' last='Barrett'], [player_tooltip player_id='1286887' first='Evan' last='Mitchell'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2384952' first='Finn' last='Day']. The defending champion Maroons built a 29-0 lead en route to a 36-0 victory.

I checked in on Ankeny at Johnston a few times. The Dragon defense shined in shutting down the visitors, 27-0.
 <!-- wp:embed
