Some have been established names continuing to build their resumes, while others have emerged from the preseason as players who deserve more love. This group features quarterbacks who have raised their stock through their play, production, and development during the first half of the season.

Princeton's offense has been in good hands with 2027 QB [player_tooltip player_id='862731' first='Jake' last='Belcher'] this season. Belcher is a true dual-threat who can hurt defenses with his arm or take off and make plays as a runner, making him difficult to keep contained and prepare for. He's been impressive with his efficiency and decision-making, consistently getting the ball to the Tigers' talented skill group and taking what defenses give him. Belcher has also shown the poise to make plays in some big early-season moments, and his first half of the season has only strengthened his case as one of the top senior quarterbacks in the state.

The turnaround at Sissonville has been one of the better stories in the state over the last two seasons, and 2027 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1616398' first='Maddox' last='Balog'] has been at the center of it. He's helped lead the Indians to their first 5-0 start since 1994, consistently elevating his game in the biggest moments. Balog plays with great poise during crunch time and has a knack for making the winning play when his team needs it most. He's also developed into a strong leader for the Indians and is a true gamer with the ball in his hands who just finds ways to win. Balog remains underrated by many, but in my eyes, he deserves to be in the conversation among the top quarterbacks in the state.

Robert C. Byrd has been one of the biggest surprises in the state at the halfway point of the season, and [player_tooltip player_id='1154702' first='Isaiah' last='Heflin'] has played a big role in the Eagles' 4-1 start. The 2027 QB is a true dual-threat who's comfortable operating their system and has become a difficult player for defenses to prepare for. Heflin sees plenty of direct-run opportunities, but he also has the arm talent to make defenses pay if they key on the running game. That combination forces defenses to account for him in multiple ways and gives the Eagles another dimension every Friday night. Heflin is off to a hot start to his senior season and deserves some college looks for his play.

East Hardy has a gamer at quarterback in 2027 QB [player_tooltip player_id='864946' first='Trevor' last='Roof'], and he deserves more college attention than he's getting right now. Roof is a true dual-threat who can make plays with his arm or legs and has consistently shown the toughness and competitiveness you want from a quarterback. He has good arm talent that you can see on tape, especially when he improvises and throws off platform or on the run. Roof is a good athlete who makes plenty of big plays with his legs, but his arm should get him some hard looks from D2 programs, in my opinion.

The production is impossible to ignore from 2027 Tug Valley QB [player_tooltip player_id='1154693' first='Preston' last='May'] so far this season, accounting for 1,900 total yards and 22 touchdowns through the halfway point. May is a true dual-threat who plays with the poise of a four-year starter and veteran operator for the Panthers. May does a great job improvising when plays break down and is comfortable making something happen off-script, but he's equally effective working within the structure of the offense. His intelligence also stands out, and a 4.1 GPA backs up what you see on film from a quarterback who understands the game at a high level and makes smart decisions. May is having a stock-rising senior season and is a D2 prospect who deserves more attention.

[player_tooltip player_id='1616318' first='Jalen' last='Miller'] is arguably the most under-the-radar quarterback in the 2027 class in my eyes, and his senior film has only strengthened that opinion. Berkeley Springs hasn't had a lot of program success over the years, but Miller has been impressive this year after flashing as a junior and has taken another step forward this season. The arm talent has always been there, with great arm strength that stands out when pushing the ball downfield and throwing off-platform. Miller has a quick release and throws a very catchable ball for his receivers. I really like what Miller offers as a prospect, and I firmly believe he deserves D2 looks.

After waiting his turn at a proud Linsly program, 2027 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1331233' first='Landon' last='Cottrill'] has made the most of his opportunity behind center as a senior. He has an impressive 6'4 195 frame and good athleticism that gives him a lot to work with as a quarterback and overall athlete. Cottrill is still developing as a passer, but the experience he's getting against Linsly's demanding schedule has been valuable, and he's helped the Cadets pick up some big wins in recent weeks. There's enough arm talent and athleticism to play quarterback at the next level, but his physical tools also give him some positional flexibility at the next level. Cottrill is an intriguing senior whose stock has started to rise as he's gotten his chance to lead the Cadets.

Oak Glen has opened up its offense this season, and [player_tooltip player_id='892650' first='Maddox' last='Bowen'] has been a major beneficiary of the change. The 2028 QB has already surpassed 1,000 passing yards with 9 touchdowns at the halfway point after the Golden Bears leaned heavily on the ground game last season. Bowen is an athletic quarterback who extends plays with his legs very well, but also does a nice job of keeping his eyes downfield when he starts scrambling. He has a smaller frame, but the arm talent we saw early in his career is showing up more consistently now, and he's playing with a lot of confidence. Bowen's combination of athleticism, arm talent, and playmaking ability can give defenses fits and has played well at the midseason point.

Replacing a record-setting multi-year starter is a tough task, but 2027 QB [player_tooltip player_id='2234886' first='Bear' last='Saab'] has stepped into the vacancy and has done a good job keeping Lincoln's offense moving in his first season with the program. Saab has helped the Cougars put up some big numbers and has been a great fit in an offense that spreads the ball around the field. Saab has a good understanding of the position and is a technically sound passer who makes good decisions with the football. He's another quarterback with a smaller frame, but his talent and mechanics stand out on film. Saab deserves recognition for the way he's handled his first varsity season and has given Lincoln a seamless transition at quarterback.

https://youtu.be/w7MEpobZ9RM?si=1zW71sR_m-hRbl2K

The growth has been noticeable each week for 2029 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1581941' first='Marek' last='Midkiff'], and he's starting to look very comfortable in his first season as Huntington's varsity starter. Midkiff tied the school record with five passing touchdowns against Woodrow Wilson last week, giving us another glimpse of the potential he's shown since his youth football days. He's settling into the offense and playing with more confidence as the season goes, and the improvement has been clear from week to week. Huntington has a promising group of young talent coming through the program, and Midkiff is right at the forefront of that group. The upside is starting to show up on Friday nights, and his development will be one to watch over the next few seasons.

The jump from his freshman season to now has been noticeable, and [player_tooltip player_id='1716398' first='De'Sean' last='Isabell'] is starting to look like a much more complete quarterback for George Washington. The 2029 QB flashed potential at Capital last year, but winning the starting job as a sophomore for one of the top teams in the state speaks to how much his game has developed. Isabell has always had the athleticism and burst to make plays as a runner, but he's improved as a passer this season with some impressive throws and better overall command of the position. Classmate Jaden Black gets plenty of attention in their running game, but Isabell has been making his own impact with the ball in his hands through the first five weeks and deserves his own praise. I expect Isabell to be a major stock riser when we update the 2029 rankings after the season.

Brooke's [player_tooltip player_id='1716397' first='Kamden' last='Sperringer'] is making our early Top 5 QB ranking look pretty good, especially after we initially evaluated him off limited JV film as a freshman. He's taken over as the Bruins' varsity starter as a sophomore and has quickly proved to be a productive and talented player. His arm talent already stands out among the best in the class at this early stage, and he's shown good confidence and ability in his first year running the offense on Friday nights. The Sperringer family has a strong quarterback history, and Kamden has the talent to become the best of the group when his high school career is finished.

The transition to a new program and a varsity starting role has allowed 2029 Logan QB [player_tooltip player_id='2234894' first='Greg' last='Williams'] to shine. Williams has settled into the Wildcats' offense and shown the confidence to distribute the football to the playmakers around him at a high level. He's a natural athlete who can extend plays and create with his legs, but his work as a passer has been encouraging as he gains more experience. Williams has looked comfortable operating the offense and has helped Logan emerge as a strong team during the first half of the season. His combination of athleticism, early production, and upside makes him a sophomore quarterback whose stock is trending upward.

https://twitter.com/g_1williams/status/2101692232587731227

Calhoun County has been one of the bigger surprises early in the season, and 2029 QB [player_tooltip player_id='2371422' first='Trevor' last='Mayle'] has been a big reason for the Red Devils' strong start. Mayle has done most of his damage as a direct-snap runner, already piling up more than 550 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, but he's also shown he can hurt defenses through the air with over 300 passing yards and two scores at an efficient completion rate. Mayle is an all-around athlete who rarely leaves the field, contributing on offense, defense, and special teams, showing the kind of competitiveness you want from a young player. He's still under the radar as a small-school athlete, but Mayle is quickly making a name for himself if he can continue this pace of play.
