Here's a look at some of the defensive players on both sides of the ball that caught our attention.

Sherman transferred to Bishop McDevitt during the off-season and was arguably one of the top defensive players in the game. He made nine total tackles (five solo), deflected two passes, and intercepted another. Sherman has made a seamless transition into the safety position for the Crusaders and was flying to the football against both the run and pass. He'll be playing mainly as a safety, so he'll have a chance to rise in the rankings in my opinion by season's end.

Miltsch, a new name to know on McDevitt's defense, made an impact against both the run and the pass. He made nine total tackles (three solo) and sacked the quarterback once. Good Counsel couldn't get much going in the passing or running game, and the front-seven of McDevitt (which included Miltsch), was a big reason why. Not the biggest, but Good Counsel had trouble blocking him because he was quicker than the bigger offensive linemen trying to block him. He's very active and should easily post 75-plus tackles this season.

Chance made three total tackles, intercepted one pass, and deflected another. His interception late in the fourth quarter stopped any chances Good Counsel may have had at winning the football game. He also had the tough assignment of covering star wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1644197' first='Corey' last='Smith'] Jr. Smith wasn't shut down, but Chance and his teammates made sure he didn't beat them by himself. He's one of the more seasoned 2029 defensive backs coming into this year and is battle-tested on the island at the cornerback position.

Good Counsel may have given up 35 points, but the defense also put up two scores via pick-sixes. Chiles finished the game with 12 total tackles, two quarterback hits, and three quarterback pressures. He's a big reason Bishop McDevitt wasn't able to get much going on offense.

Lawall had a nice pick-six early in the game when it was still close. Nice addition for the Falcons. Allen also had a pick-six that gave Good Counsel a little bit more hope later in the game. Baker had a couple of impressive pass breakups. Kinama finished the game with four total tackles and one interception. I love his energy.
