SDSU Prospect Camp: Minnesota and Dakotas OL/DL Standouts Pt. 2

Moving along to our last look at the OL/DL group made up of Minnesota and South Dakota hogs (605 Hogs at they call them at SDSU) and the dogs of the defensive line we found plenty of under the radar names that caught our attention in the live eval all the way up to the top-tier of prospects that got offers from schools in attendance at SDSU, this group unpacks everything we saw in the trenches from three states!    Probably one of the more eye-catching 2029s we've seen this summer in live evals has been Fargo Davies defensive linemen [player_tooltip player_id='1630941' first='Elijah' last='Johnson'] which was the case in Brookings. The 6'1 221 pounder has so much frame to fill out yet boosts the athleticism that college coaches are going to want to know earlier as he ran a 4.72 pro agility at that size at the SDSU Prospect Camp and got better in all of his second reps via testing. He has explosive hands for his age that have pretty sound hand placement to obtain leverage that translates to both sides of the trenches as he plays on both sides for Davies. He popped out as well at the NDSU Prospect Camp this past weekend per [player_tooltip player_id='1292679' first='Oliver' last='West'] so back to back solid live evals will rise Elijah into our 2029 rankings coming out in August.     Luther was a 2028 out of Fairmont that got on my radar recently via Twitter, but the live eval I got on him in the first session of the SDSU Prospect Camp added to his stock. The 6'0 240 pounder might be on the ligther side at the moment, but watching him in his pull-blocking reps in Brookings you would have thought due to his power he generated that he was bigger than those measurables. He also executed those reps with good pad-level which I feel has surely grew even smoother since the 2025 fall season ended. He's one in the Minnesota 2028 class to watch for out of the good folks at Fairmont.     A 2028 offensive linemen that is already getting touted by FBS schools with an offer already from Florida Atlantic was Eastview's [player_tooltip player_id='1651491' first='Owen' last='Bauer']. I just got a live eval from Owen this spring over at Line of Scrimmage, and what I gathered at the SDSU Prospect Camp is Owen has gotten more flexible with his bend for his 6'8 285 pound frame which showed why he's gotten a lot of attention at camps this summer. He's also grown with more agility in his first step from what my eyes caught in the live reps I watched as one of very few 2028s that was in SDSU's top-tier group. He got a nod from us for his live eval at the Minnesota Camp here recently, and I would be remissed if I thought that might not be the last time this summer he gets on our radar again.     Dawson picked up his first offer (SMSU) this week from his performance at the SDSU Prospect Camp on Monday, as another prospect out of Hawley that will be one to track further in this upcoming fall season. He's one that from the live eval, had a noticable high motor as one that you can tell is a grinder of a defensive tackle with his hands. He was one in the live eval, that once he got the point of attack he amped up his physicality even higher on contact which was noticable on a handful of reps I watched. Surely one that seems like a sleeper in this 2027 Minnesota class out of the Outstate.     A 2027 defensive linemen out of Sturgis Brown that I am glad to get a live eval on Monday at the SDSU Prospect Camp was [player_tooltip player_id='1293073' first='Dion' last='Reece'] whos currently our DL9 in the 2027 South Dakota class, but could rise up. The 6'0 253 pounder ran an impressive 5.1 40-yard dash which is great for that size at the defensive end position. Dion was one in Brookings that I liked how his hands have improved since the end of the fall season as he's got the upside to progress further as a downhill rusher that has room to develop more agile twitch with his lateral movement.     Jacob was another 2027 defensive linemen out of the Land of 10,000 Lakes that caught my attention in the live eval out of Zimmerman. I was impressed with how fiery Jacob appeared to be with his first step for his size as one that just needs to develop more balance in his lower body to put together a more solid finish. He also showed off intriguing short-area vision in the reps I was able to watch at the SDSU Prospect Camp. Jacob is surely one that I believe has a great shot to play on Saturdays, as one that doesn't have his first offer yet.     Another prospect out of OL/DL group that has caught attention of our Minnesota scouts on muliple occasions recently is Minnesota Valley Luteran's [player_tooltip player_id='2127614' first='Jamis' last='Stewart'], who also was an honorable mention at the UWEC Big Man MEGA Camp also this week. Jamis showed off some well-versed hands that were persistently quick in the live reps I watched with his get off. What I like about Jamis in his live evals this week, is the variety of skillsets he brought to the table as one that obviously can win reps with his speed, but also has physical hands you want coming off the edge. Surely another one to keep an eye out for out of the New Ulm area in this 2027 class.     A young man that has been a grinder on the Midwest camp curcuit out of Hopkins that caught my radar again at the SDSU Prospect Camp, was defensive linemen [player_tooltip player_id='1120624' first='Will' last='Johnston']. The 6'3 220 pounder has developed a ton since he got on my radar at the Minnesota camp last summer as he ran a 4.3 pro agility and jumped a 9'6 in the broad jump which are both excellent for his measurables. An area that I have enjoyed tracking the growth is with Will's agile hands he's grown this camp season as there's plenty more agility with his finish with those hands. He's gotten five offers thus far and picked up one from Northern State after the SDSU camp on Monday which is his first D2 offer. A high-charactered young man that will improve DL rooms wherever he ends up!     58   Picking up three offers in just over a week including a couple from college staffs at the SDSU Prospect Camp, was Rapid City St. Thomas More's [player_tooltip player_id='1293174' first='Rush' last='Turner'] who's our OL4 in the South Dakota 2027 class. South Dakota Mines, Augustana, and Black Hills State are all South Dakota schools that offered Rush last week, Getting to watch Rush on the board drill surely rose his stock amongst the college coaches in attendance, as he showed off nasty physical hands and took the defensive linemen for a ride with his drive blocking ability that surely showed off some relentless finish. We've known since Rush was at our Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase the wingspan Rush has but his utilization of it in Session 1 of the Jackrabbits first prospect camp of the year surely shows that Rush will be a climber when we update our 2027 South Dakota rankings.
