Norris 7v7 Tournament | Lincoln Southwest Standouts

There were nine different teams in attendance and 10 teams in total (Norris V and JV) that filled up the stadium with high-flying action from start to finish. Finally, I am checking out the Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks who were the eventual tournament champions. The Silver Hawks were highlighted by a SUPER talented 2028 class that looks ready to make a splash this fall.   Here are my standouts from the tournament champions, Lincoln Southwest:   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    Junior RB [player_tooltip player_id='2129274' first='Cam' last='Rakowsky'] had a huge breakout performance at this tournament, even earning offensive MVP of the day. Cam is primarily a RB, but really impressed with his receiving skills, showing he can catch out of the backfield or line up as a receiver. He possesses elite twitch and agility making him very slippery as a route runner, especially going through his breaks. Combine that with explosive speed and you can see why he was beating DBs clean at the LOS. He finds and attacks the ball as a "hands" catcher with the strength to hold on through contact. Rakowsky can also make the first defender miss then turn on the burners to separate from defenses en route to a TD. Great athlete set to take off this season!     This was my first in-person look at top 2028 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1232632' first='Thatcher' last='Shelton'] who had an overall very efficient performance that also featured some big throws. Thatcher looked natural leading the Silver Hawks offense, displaying the poise to sit and work through his progressions along with the football IQ to make smart reads. Thatcher has a strong arm that can zip passes into tight windows and can push the ball deep downfield. We didn't get to see his full dual-threat abilities in the 7v7 format but he did show off his mobility and footwork that allow him to maneuver the pocket and be effective throwing on rollouts. This was definitely a great way for Thatcher to tune up for what could be a breakout campaign.     Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1264558' first='Kevin' last='Richardson'] is a player I knew was a standout at receiver, but I was very impressed with his skillset at DB as well. As a receiver, Kevin is a twitchy receiver with great burst and start/stop ability, making him very tough to hang with in coverage. On top of that, he is very aggressive when the ball is in the air, regardless if he's at receiver or DB, as he'll go up to attack the ball and challenge opponents at the catch point. Defensively, Kevin's shifty footwork and loose hips allow him to quickly change direction with his opponent. Sharp instincts help him break on the ball in a flash. You can rely on Kevin to get open over the middle of the field and he can also stretch defenses vertically.     Junior DB [player_tooltip player_id='2237554' first='Christian' last='Fitzgerald'] emerged as a new name to my radar after a great performance that earned him defensive MVP for the tournament. Christian stands out immediately with his taller frame at 6'4" with the type of length that will catch coaches attention. I was very surprised with how well he moved for being a bigger DB, displaying good footwork and a smooth change of direction. His size allows him to match up well with receivers and TEs across the board while also displaying the mean streak to be physical at the catch point. This was on full display on the last play of the game as Fitzgerald had a clean break on the ball and intercepted it to seal the championship. High upside player, buy stock now!     Junior [player_tooltip player_id='2071039' first='Alex' last='Dawes'] is another key piece to a very talented receiving corps for the Silver Hawks and that showed on Friday. Alex is a player who I felt was consistently open and consistently near the ball every time I looked over. He does an excellent job getting open at all levels of the field and was especially good in the short-intermediate range and redzone. Like his teammates, Dawes is also surprisingly twitchy which allows him to make sharp changes of direction at the top of his route to give him enough separation.
