Gardner-Webb Mega Camp: Offensive Players To Know

Gardner-Webb University will be hosting its annual Mega Camp this weekend, on June 6th and June 7th, on their campus near Shelby, NC. We have some players on the offensive side of the ball to watch, and we will give you some reasons why in this article, previewing the Mega Camp!    The talented running back has spent the offseason proving to people that he's fast in the open field, and his training and drive have been impressive to watch from afar. Savion has been a highly heralded player since his middle school days, and going into his senior year, he's the engine to a strong ground attack for the Green Wave. I'm expecting a strong weekend from him in this setting for sure.     When you start thinking about the defending 8A State Champions, they are DEEP all over the roster, including the wide receiver spot. Christian is a player who can make some things happen on the outside, but he's sharing one ball with players on that offense who are getting offers from everyone. This camp is an opportunity to show how talented he is, and I think he's going to come in here with a chip on his shoulder and a lot to prove. He's a player with good speed and athletic ability, and I think he's going to show it.     Joseph is a strong interior offensive line prospect who has done the work in the weight room this offseason to take another step in his development as a player. Joseph currently has three offers, and I'm glad he's still going out and competing to earn more recruiting attention and offers. He was part of a very good offensive line last season, and he will be one of the anchors for the Mustangs this upcoming season, under a new head coach.     Blake is a powerful interior offensive lineman first and foremost. Blake excels in down blocks, where he can fire off the ball in the running game and get defensive linemen moving against their will. Because of his strength, Blake also does a great job of not allowing upfield penetration against defensive tackles who try to bullrush him and push the pocket. With a 4.1 GPA, that's a complete package for what you want in a high school offensive lineman. I'm excited to see how his offseason progress translates here.     KJ just made a big move, going from Kings Mountain to Crest High School for his junior year, and he will have a lot of talent to work with in the Chargers' offensive attack. KJ has some excellent traits and a strong arm from the quarterback position, and it will be fun to see if the hometown college in Gardner-Webb pulls the trigger on an offer. Outside of that, I'm interested to see how KJ has developed so far this offseason, also.     Kylan is one of the biggest home-run hitters in the state with the football in the open field. In this setting, Kylan should perform well. Kylan is one of the rare running backs who is just as good or maybe even better when he lines up at the wide receiver spot. Kylan's speed is his best trait, but his vision allows him to get into space to use that to its maximum advantage. Monroe is poised for a big year on offense, and Kylan is a big reason why.     I recently wrote that Xavier looks like a grown man physically, compared to when I last saw him in person just a few months ago. He's definitely bigger than what we have him listed as here - he's easily up to 6'3 and probably around 190 pounds. Xavier is really excelling in winning balls at the vertical apex in one-on-one coverage, and his long strides are gaining separation on downfield routes against defensive backs. I think he will have a strong camp here.     An excellent physical specimen as a prospect, Nana didn't have as big a season last year as the Cardinals went through some changes at the quarterback position. Because of that, these camp opportunities are even bigger for players who have some talent but maybe don't have the same number of chances to impress in front of this many evaluators at one time. We have always loved Nana's speed and ability to create separation on a large number of different routes against defenders.     Grady is one of the true athletes here - I'm not sure what position he's going to compete in with this camp, but he's a highly productive player on both sides of the ball. Last season, he had over 500 receiving yards and 10 Touchdowns on offense, and then over 50 tackles and 3 interceptions on defense on top of that. The speed and playmaking ability are impressive, and when you see it happening on both sides of the ball, you have a special player in front of you.     Charles has had a very strong offseason so far, and you're starting to see one of those "recruiting risers" that you get when offensive linemen start doing well in some offseason camps and such. Charles has picked up recent offers from UNC Pembroke, Barton, and Elizabeth City State, and this is an opportunity to add to that stash even more. I really like Charles' initial physicality at the line of scrimmage in both run blocking and pass protection, and that sets him up to dominate consistently on film as a result.
