Game Changers: Underclassmen Shine in College Station at SQTs

<p>Every summer, the Texas State Qualifying Tournament offers more than just an annual 7v7 tournament, it's a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming high school football season. While players get quality reps against top talent from across the state, we also get a chance to see some of the game changers who will be key contributors for their teams when the fall season rolls around. Over the weekend in College Station, several underclassmen stepped up for their teams and put the state on notice that they are ready for lead roles on their teams this fall.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Allen was spectacular all weekend long in College Station. He was able to get open consistently, using his elite quickness and speed off the ball to create separation from defenders. Allen won on the jump ball grabs, showing explosive leaping ability and strong, reliable hands to fight off multiple defenders to score touchdowns. Williams uses a combination of quickness, speed, exceptional route running and the ability to find holes in the defense to get open often. He gets in an out of breaks quickly, his ability to change directions without losing his speed and his reliable hands make him a quarterbacks best friend. Williams is electric in space after the catch and he showed burst and acceleration on multiple grabs for scores. His ability to make game changing plays on both sides of the football helped Keller Central win the Division I Championship. Taylor is an elite defender in the secondary, he has great ball skills combined with natural instincts and he has a ballhawk mentality. He has a long, lean, athletic frame that enables him to shut down passing lanes. Taylor has the speed to cover ground on the backend at safety, as well as the footwork and technique to shut down receivers on an island at cornerback. Offensively, he was just as dangerous at quarterback, showing the ability to make big plays with his arm. Taylor showed excellent touch on his deep ball, he was able to thread the needle in tight coverage windows for completions and his ability to find the open man allowed Keller Central walk away as the top team at the tournament. The Eagles came up short falling to Keller Central but Snell proved that he is one of the top signal callers to watch in the state of Texas heading into the fall. Snell has the arm to make every throw on the route with pinpoint accuracy, he has clean mechanics and he has the arm talent to make big plays at all levels of the field. He was surgical with the football, showing the strength to drive the football into tight coverage windows for completions and his touch on the deep ball allowed him to throw his receivers open on multiple occasions. He has superb ball skills, he attacks the ball the catch point with controlled aggression and his strong, reliable hands, allow him to make contested grabs in traffic looks routine. Taylor has a large catch radius and his ability to leap, extend and win on the 50/50 balls makes him a mismatch in coverage. He is two way playmaker who also makes big plays defensively and he is a game changer who puts pressure on his opponents on either side of the ball. He has clean footwork combined with fluid hips that enable him to flip, redirect his weight without wasting steps to remain in phase with receivers in coverage. He has a high football IQ and he consistently plays through the hands of receivers, not giving up on plays until the whistle is blown. He is extremely accurate in the short to intermediate zones and he has the arm talent to push the ball deep, stretching the defense vertically. Kaden has a quick trigger, he goes through his progressions quickly and when he sees an open target he delivers dimes in rhythm. Copelin saw action last season for the Highlanders, tossing 11 touchdowns in a back up roll. He used his elite quickness to shake free from defenders consistently and his large catch radius enabled him to extend over his opponents to make grabs for scores in tight coverage. He is an explosive leaper who has the body control to adjust midair to make the difficult catch look routine. West Rusk had a championship run over the weekend and Brown was a key cog in leading them there. Get him the ball and big plays happen. Brown is a game changer you need to know heading into the fall.
