What a wild 2025-26 high school basketball season in Minnesota! If you aren't aware, state playoffs just finished up, and we saw the likes of Chaska (4A), Totino-Grace (3A), Minnehaha Academy (AA), and Hills-Beaver Creek (A) walk away as state champions in what was one of the more electric playoffs in recent memory. If there's one thing the state of Minnesota does especially well, it's produce top-tier, multi-sport, football/basketball hybrids, and those same elite, multi-sport athletes stole the spotlight at this most recent state playoff run. [player_tooltip player_id='592119' first='Deron' last='Russell'] made a legit run at Mr. Basketball, Carter Cupito announced his 2030-backed name to the varsity masses under the brightest of lights, and familiar names from the gridiron were littered all over the four class All-Tournament teams from the fixtures, as well as the StarTribune All-Minnesota Basketball Team. Now that the dust has settled, we're back to completely focusing on the gridiron, and PRZMN wanted to make sure we highlight some of the best Minnesota-born multi-sport standouts on the gridiron and hardwood! PrepRedzone x PrepHoops combine! Enjoy.

The latest installment of the Asuma boys out of Cherry in the NE part of the state up on the Iron Range, 2027 multi-sport Isaiah Asuma is another terrific multi-sporter following in the footsteps of his cousins Isaac - who hoops for Minnesota - and Noah, a 2026 Cherry senior who is committed to Minnesota to play baseball. Isaiah, like his cousins, could play three sports at the next level, and is fresh off a terrific junior basketball season that saw him tally 28 ppg, 43% from 3pt range, 6 rpg, and 3.5 apg in a Cherry basketball season that saw the Tigers' go 25-7 in 2025-26. Cherry lost in the state quarterfinal to Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton and lost to Liberty Classical in the Class 1A consolation, but Isaiah already has reported a a UMD hoops offer, and also plays baseball for Cherry High School.

On the gridiron, the Asumas athleticism has helped engineer a bump from up 9man to 11man football, and 2027 Isaiah has stepped in as an electric wildcat QB and one of the best multi-sporters in the state. Possessing homerun speed and burst, Asuma owns a dazzling combination of footwork, contact balance, and overall elusiveness as a scrambler in the pocket as a QB as well as a ball carrier. The junior also throws a beautiful ball and has some natural arm talent and smooth mechanics from the QB spot, but his talent shines brightest as a ball carrier. Owning impressive vision - Asuma sees and smells the cutback with lethal efficiency, hard to touch him, much less tackle him, in the open field. Sees and sets up safeties and defensive backs in space and forces them to freeze their feet and commit their hips, and can stretch defenders and create space and holes thanks to his speed, vision, and burst. Asuma blows by defenders with so much pace and velocity that they seem to be reacting in slow motion and at least a step behind, creating arm tackles and off-angles for tacklers in the open field, and the burst is reminiscent of a drag car exploding out of the gates, flies to the third level of the field with frightening intention. Plus, Isaiah can easily take the edge and hurt defenses out on the sideline and in space and is tough through contact and will run behind his pads.

As with the other Asumas, you know they're athletic, but you can't put it into context football-wise thanks to the geographic isolation and lack of testing times, but the Cherry product is running with the Minnesota Comets AAU program and comes in at #13 in the PrepHoops 2027 Rankings, so you know there's elite athleticism in his skillset. Very interested to see where this Asuma ends up.

One of the best athletes Richfield High School has produced in the past decade, Minnesota's tradition of high-end, multi-sport talent is in great hands in 2027 with the likes of [player_tooltip player_id='1105134' first='Dre' last='Collins']. The Richfield product and Minnesota Select AAU standout comes in at #22 in the PrepHoops 2027 Rankings and was recently selected to the All-Minnesota Basketball Team by the StarTribune last month, showing a tremendous skillset on both the gridiron and hardwood. In 202-26, Collins led Richfield to a 29-3 in 2025-26, beating Sartell in the Class 3A quarterfinal, losing to Delalsalle in the semifinals, then beating Northfield in the Class 3A 3rd place 78-70, and Collins totaled 18.1 ppg, 544 points in 2025-26, 33% from 3-point land, 6.8 rpg, 2.8 steals per game, and 2.4 assists per game.

Additionally, on the gridiron, Collins is one of the most dynamic 2027s in Minnesota, proving himself as a three phase impact player who opens his tape with a 50+ yard bomb of a TD reception, an instinctive and smooth pick-six, a punt return for a TD that he made look as easy as a jog around the lake, and then a kickoff return for six involving some shake, acceleration, and balance. Followed by another KOR TD. Talk about dynamic!

Deep threat, impressively rangy in coverage, aided by his outstanding length and overall athleticism, and even threw for a TD in 2025. Collins' elusiveness is on another level compared to his competition in his junior tape, and just going based off Minnesota history, Collins will more than likely hoop in college, but with the length, athleticism, frame, and splash-play ability, he'd make a heckuva safety or linebacker at the next level. Maybe receiver too. Get on the bandwagon now!

A breakout performer and star from the 2025 football season in Minnesota, Annandale's [player_tooltip player_id='2074043' first='Colton' last='Purcell'] was an integral part of the Cardinals' 13-0 2025 season and Class AAA state championship on the gridiron. Additionally, the kid can hoop, and runs with the storied MN Fury AAU squad, but this winter on the prep scene he posted 24.9 ppg, 7.0 rpg, and 2.8 steals per game in 9 games of the seaosn before he unfortunately jacked up his knee hooping. However, he managed to pass 1,000 points hooping in late December, and Annandale went 23-6 in 2025-26, losing to Melrose in the section semifinal. Purcell also comes in at #28 in the PrepHoops 2027 Rankings, and the state champ with Annandale manufactured the best singular effort from any defensive player of the Prep Bowl, posting 3 picks in the win over Waseca while acting as a two-way dynamo for Annandale.

A big issue for small school defenders in the open field thanks to his speed/size combination, Purcell's highlights primarily showcase his WR skillset, where his twitch + contact balance in the open field can create big plays on routine catches and put together highlight-worthy reps in a variety of settings. Purcell sees and exploits space after the catch and is a load for DBs to bring down 1v1, if they can even corral them, and he can cut at top speed, and also owns a huge catch radius. You can see the basketball background in his ball skills and when playing the ball in the air and/or 50/50 ball situations. Beautifully times his jumps, big-time bounce, strong hands and through contested situations, and Purcell is also an instinctive defensive back with impressive range in coverage from the defensive backfield. Tough to say how things are going to shake out right now given the injury and recovery, but boy is this kid a baller. Pay attention!

One of the more thought-provoking prospects in the 2027 class, Moorhead's [player_tooltip player_id='1662721' first='Austin' last='Dryburgh'] is yet another eye-catcher on the Big School state championship contender, coming in at 6'6-6'7, 205 lbs. while manning the backup QB spot for the Spuds, as well as a PF/SF spot on the hoops squad. Speaking of the hoops squad, Dryburgh helped Moorhead to a 17-10 record in 2025-26, and in 26 games, the forward went 13.5 ppg, and after that there were not a lot of stats updated besides points on Moorhead's MNBasketballHub page. The Moorhead/The Next Level Basketball Academy hoops product, who comes in at #74 in the PrepHoops 2027 Rankings, could most likely starts at 95% of other football programs in the state, and in 2025, he played some really clutch minutes this year, stepping in when [player_tooltip player_id='1194605' first='[player_tooltip player_id='1194604' first='Jett' last='']' last='Feeney'] went down with an injury and starting against Minnetonka, Wayzata, Maple Grove, Eden Prairie, and STMA. Appearances against Woodbury and did sling a pass in the state final if I remember correctly. Totaled, in 5 games, 83 completions on 130 attempts (63.8%) completion percentage, 1,015 yards, and 13 TDs to 7 INTs.

From the QB position, and maybe it's just recency bias and too easy of a comparison to draw, but is there some Chase Thompson to Dryburgh's game, and PRZMN loves his touch on the football, as well as serious zip on his throws that fits the ball into tighter windows at the prep level. Dryburgh will stand in the pocket and deliver throws threw pressure and oncoming contact, and he shows some pocket mobility and accuracy when throwing off-platform as well. The massive gunslinger shows some high-quality reps highlighting his ball-placement ability, and the mechanics and throwing motion look smooth and sound from what I can gather, and he continually sets his talented WR corps up for success in his 2025 highlights and really makes one think about what a full season of highlights could look like with the massive QB at the helm of a 6A offense. Hope to see this kid on the camp trail this summer, especially at NDSU.

One of the most electric WRs in Minnesota going into the fall, Goodhue was loaded with talent and Roschen family members in 2025-26. The Wildcats made a Class AA Prep Bowl state championship performance against Jackson County Central that was a few converted first downs away from an upset, and unfortunately hoops went a similar route, as Goodhue went 31-2 in 2025-26, losing to Minnehaha Academy in the Class 2A championship. However, despite the losses, these back-to-back championship appearance runs solidify the fact that Goodhue is bursting with talent this calendar school year, and 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2128296' first='Owen' last='Roschen'] is set to keep the good times going for the Wildcats next year.

The PG and WR tallied 14.4 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 4.2 apg, and 2.2 spg in 2025-26, and the junior went off at the state tourney, walking away with Class AA All-Tournament Team honors thanks to his performance under the brightest of high school basketball lights. Big chance of his #110 ranking on PrepHoops may be going up after that showing! However, the kid is also a stud WR and DB, and he's electric after the catch in his junior highlights. Start/stop ability, burst, vision, quickness, and balance are a fun combination after the catch and in the open field, and Roschen also made a CLUTCH bananas contested catch on an out route for an OT game winner in the Class AA quarterfinals against Waterville-Elysian-Morristown. Primarily working out of the slot, Roschen can go up and win 50/50 balls and contested catches, and the basketball background shows up in the hops, effectiveness, and timing of his jumps. He threw out a dirty out-and-up that had a DB's head spinning his junior highlights, and the two-way impact player owns a huge catch radius for his size. Body control and balance when playing the ball in the air allow him to land and continue forward with positive momentum, and as a CB on the defensive side of the ball, he showed some real grit and toughness in the Class AA state championship against JCC. Total package here! NSIC schools in both sports should be on notice.

Additionally, Green posted 13 catches for 157 yards in 2025 with the upstart Redhawks, along with 17 tackles, 1 FF, 2 INTs, 3 PBUs, according to MNFootballHub. He's lacking in succinct highlights from his junior football season, but from what he does have, you can see a twitchy WR with noticeable acceleration, good vision, and the potential to be dazzling in the open field with the ball in-hand.
Something special in the water near Hills-Beaver Creek High School right now! Fresh off an undefeated, 13-0, Class 9Man state championship-winning season on the gridiron this fall, HBC followed it up with a 30-3 hoops record in 2025-26, beating Southland, Henning, and Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton to win the Class A state basketball title this winter/spring. Bringing some muscle to the hardwood is 2027 multi-sport utility prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1655112' first='Riggins' last='Rheault'], a legit two-way recruit as an EDGE/DE or TE on the gridiron, but he also proved himself to have some serious juice on the hardwood this winter as well. Rheault proved himself to be a legit basketball prospect in the clutchest of times for HBC this winter, totaling 12.2 ppg, 5.0 rpg, and 1.8 apg and earning Class A All-Tournament Team honors due to his outstanding effort and performance in what became another state title for HBC this school year.

Rheault is also a dynamite two-way prospect in the 2027 class, and PRZMN has gotten some great looks at this dude over the years thanks to HBC's deep playoff runs in multiple sports, a trend that is more than looking to continue next school year as well. Rheault owns tons of experience - including Big Game experience at The Bank, and he explodes off the line as an inline TE and blocker and is relentless and sticky when working to eliminate his assignment. The 220 lber. owns great hands and is a legit threat as a pass catcher, with some shake and power after the catch, and he eats and attacks blocking attempts around the LOS and can make tackles through contact at or behind the LOS. Plus, he's a powerful tackler and puts his hat on the ball into contact. I'd get this kid on your recruiting boards ASAP, as well as his HBC teammates and peers.

Fresh off his first offer from the University of South Dakota, there's no better time to breakdown Stillwater's [player_tooltip player_id='1633442' first='Carter' last='Zollar'] than the present! Unfortunately, I don't think Zollar hooped for the Ponies, who went 13-14 in 2025-26, but he's still a multi-sport standout who ran with Stillwater/MN Fury and clocks in at #78 in the PrepHoops 2027 Rankings.

No matter what happened with basketball, I think it's safe to say that football is where Zollar projects best to in college, and in 2025 as a junior, he posted 31 catches for 528 yards and 9 TDs in six games of 6A action. Zollar's 50/50 ball skills are more than highlight-reel-worthy, as are his hands, and he made a beautiful, eye-popping one-handed snag against Maple Grove back across his body for a top-end display of athleticism and playmaking ability that frankly, not a lot of prospects can pull off. The 6'3 pass-catcher is positionally versatile, a redzone and goal line weapon with great hands, and he beat DBs on a variety of different routes in 2025. Zollar's ball tracking ability and body control help give him some ridiculously sticky - opens his tape with an impressive play on a slant that he then finished for six to highlight the top-end speed against 6A opponents, and he's quick at the top of the route, accelerates out of his cuts, and owns loose hips that force defenders to commit and overextended. More offers are coming!

Along with Hawley's [player_tooltip player_id='1665973' first='Charlie' last='Steer'], Marshall's 2027 DB/WR Jayden Meister is one of the best kept secrets in Minnesota's junior class right now. Coming in at a verified 6'6, 175+, Meister put up quite an athletic performance at one of SDSU's prospect camps last fall, and although he missed a significant amount of 2025 due to a lower body injury, Meister's tape from his junior season is still memorable, to say the least. A 6'6 cornerback surely sears an imprint into a scout's brain, and Meister looks ridiculously long on tape - Slenderman-long in fact, and the Marshall/SW Minnesota Stars hooper comes in at #91 in the PrepHoops 2027 Rankings, despite missing his junior hoops season to injury.

Meister, at least on the gridiron, is still a bit raw, and I can't get a good read on his bendiness or ability to weave and gain depth in his backpedal, as well as transition, though I know he's not likely to play cornerback at the next level. However, there are reps of him man-turning and staying in the pocket of WRs working vertically, so I feel like he can turn it on when he needs to. Safety, if he can retain his speed post-injury, but linebacker seems like the obvious choice given the sheer amount of weight you can put on him in a college S&C and nutrition program.

The 6'6 standout is strong in the air, and his length and core strength help him high-point and not get bodied out of position when playing the ball in the air. Meister is a violent tackler who comes into contact with intention and physicality, and he also fights to stay upright and will scratch and claw to earn yardage with the ball in-hand. Meister is a smooth block defeater thanks to the length, quickness, and physicality, an effective pass disrupter out of zone coverages and zone reads/breaks, and displays great contact balance and burst after the catch. I'm sure the injury isn't helping the offer come, so it looks like it may be a Summer Camp SZN performance to break Meister into the D1 category of prospects, so make sure you stay tuned with PRZMN!

Maybe the biggest & largest multi-sport standout in the 2027 class, Hermantown's [player_tooltip player_id='1639327' first='Sawyer' last='Senst'] measures in at a whopping 6'6, 240ish while manning the QB, PF, and occasionally C spot for Hermantown's football and basketball teams, respectively. Running with Hermantown/WI Playmakers and coming in at #97 in the PrepHoops 2027 Rankings for 2027, Senst helped Hermantown to a 8-19 record in 2025-26 while averaging 15.6 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 1.5 apg, and 1 bpg on the hardwood.

On the gridiron, the massive QB finished his junior season with 709 passing yards and 9 TDs to 4 INTs, 55% completion percentage, and 121 rushing yards and 6 TDs. He displayed a big arm that can drop the ball right in the breadbasket of a WR and can really push the ball vertically. Senst is also a colossal tackling assignment in the open field when he tucks and takes off, and he also displayed the arm strength to really put some velocity on the ball and fit the ball into smaller prep football windows. Hard not to like the size and versatility when projecting to the college level for Senst!

There's a plethora of talent at Monticello going into 2026, and tall, long, and dynamic multi-sporter [player_tooltip player_id='1633385' first='Carson' last='Deibele'] is a 2027 standout who has long held the attention of PRZMN. He's also on the radar of Prep Hoops and Northstar Hoops, coming in at #100 in the PrepHoops 2027 Rankings, and the junior surpassed 1,000 points this season on the hardcourt, totaling 20.6 ppg, although the rebounds and assists aren't updated on MNBasketballHub.

To add to the multi-sport utility, Deibele has also earned some preseason all-state baseball recognition from Prep Baseball Minnesota, and he aided Monti's basketball squad to a 22-6 2025-26 season, losing to Alexandria in the section semifinal, and he averaged 20.6 ppg, although rebounds and assists aren't updated on MNBasketballHub for the Magic.

As a QB/SAF on the gridiron, Deibele displays a strong arm and good touch on his longer throws, and he owns a good deep ball that can lead WRs open and put it in the breadbasket in stride. Deibele is exciting to watch when he tucks the ball and takes off, reps impressive burst and can get to the 2nd/3rd level in a blink, and demonstrates smooth footwork in the open field. The 6'3, junior is also a playmaking patroller in the defensive secondary with the short area quickness and bendiness to catch our eye from the CB spot. Can mirror and stay in a WR's hip pocket with ease as well. PRZMN is very curious where this multi-sport stands end up, whatever sport it could be at the next level.
