The '27 LB group is looking like one of the strengths of the class, with several great rising backers like Doniphan-Trumbull's [player_tooltip player_id='1086167' first='Max' last='Ross']. As a junior, Max ended the year with 67 tackles, seven TFLs, four sacks, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. From an eye-test standpoint, Max stands out immediately with next-level size at 6'4" and 215 pounds with great length to his frame. He backs that up with a fiery motor that keeps him in go-mode from snap to whistle and plays with the physicality you love to see from your linebackers. One aspect of Max's game that caught my eye was his ability to rush the passer using power or speed moves to win at the line of scrimmage. He is usually able to get inside the blocker's frame and drive them back with ease. Once he springs free, Max displays the closing speed to track down ball carriers and make a splash in the backfield. Great finisher when he gets to the ball.

Despite losing a good chunk of production from last year's explosive offense, there is still a great group of returning players for the Dragons, like tight end [player_tooltip player_id='1086174' first='Henry' last='Hildebrand']. Henry ended his junior campaign with 26 receptions for 364 yards and two touchdowns. Hildebrand is a reliable safety valve tight end who can use his size and lengthy catch radius to dominate over the middle of the field. At 6'4" and 215 pounds, Henry is a tough matchup for smaller DBs in the slot, and he has underrated athleticism that helps him separate from slower LBs. He is strong at the catch point and can hold on to passes even when fighting through contact. Another aspect of Henry's game that stood out was his ability to improvise and help a scrambling QB by finding and sinking into soft coverage zones. Henry's versatility across offensive formations is also a plus, as he can be used in a traditional TE spot, as a flex TE lined up on a DB, or in an H-back role. Solid blocker with a mean streak.

Kearney's [player_tooltip player_id='2071046' first='Kolby' last='Hatcher'] is one of the under-the-radar prospects with the potential to blow up once more coaches catch wind of him. Kolby started at right guard for the Bearcats, where he flashed as a physical mauler who clears run lanes and always looks to finish blocks. He is technically solid, showing he can do several things consistently from his pad level, sturdy base, footwork, and hand placement. Hatcher is very tough to shake once he wins inside leverage and can generate a ton of power and torque from his hips to upend his opponents for the pancake block. Good mobility that allows him to pull around tackle and climb up to the second level to seal off LBs. Kolby already has next-level size at 6'4" and 280 pounds with some room to continue filling out his frame.

The Storm should have a healthy competition for QB1 duties this offseason with two promising signal callers, including junior [player_tooltip player_id='1581445' first='Charlie' last='Buller']. With an all-state RB toting the rock, passing samples were small, but Charlie still threw for 482 yards and four touchdowns, and added 239 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Buller stands out on the roster sheet with great size for the next level at 6'3" and 180 pounds. He is at his best when he's able to stand in the pocket and examine the field as he goes through his progressions. Charlie has a solid arm and has shown he can deliver it to all levels of the field. Buller also does a good job on the move, showing he can roll out to extend plays, throw on the run, or tuck the ball and take it himself.

The Waverly Vikings always seem to churn out some solid defensive prospects, and that continues with defensive end [player_tooltip player_id='2110885' first='Samuel' last='Daake']. Samuel impressed with his versatility along the DL, showing he can play anywhere from the 2 to the 5 technique. Daake does a good job of getting off the ball and throws his jab with heavy hands, generating a solid push. He is constantly driving his legs and moving his feet while engaged, which helps him drive blockers off the line of scrimmage. He sets the edge effectively when defending the run and is consistently in pursuit of the ball. Active hands to help disengage from blockers.
