BLANCHARD (1-1) AT GUTHRIE (1-1)

Blanchard looks to bounce back when they go on the road to take on Guthrie Friday night. The Lions lost a high-scoring affair to Newcastle in week two. They got down in a hole early on and while they did a good job of lighting up the scoreboard on their own, it was too deep to climb out of. Guthrie is ready to start picking up some steam after beating Duncan with ease last week. The Blue Jays opened the season with a tough road loss to Tuttle and then took week one off before beating Duncan last week. Last year's 5A Runner Up will be looking to build off what they started last week. Blanchard, under a first year head coach, showed last week that they have an offense that can score with just about anybody.

CHOCTAW (1-1) AT BIXBY (2-0)

On paper, it doesn't get much better than this as we get #1 VS #1 and defending champ VS defending champ as Bixby hosts Choctaw. For the Yellowjackets, it's the ultimate test as they face the measuring stick in Oklahoma. It's also their third straight road game as they've gone to Texas, Kansas and now travel to Bixby. They wanted to be challenged early and that's certainly been the case. On the other side you have a Bixby team that once again looks like it's unbeatable. Anything can happen but the Spartans have been dominant to start the 2025 football season. But they need to continue taking it one game at a time. Choctaw could present plenty of challenges and Bixby can't get caught looking ahead to the week four showdown with Jenks.

DAVIS (1-1) AT PLAINVIEW (2-0)

The 2A-2 defending champion Davis Wolves are looking to bounce back following a tough rivalry loss to Sulphur last week. They make the trip over to Ardmore to face off with another 3A top ten team in Plainview. The Indians are under a first year head coach but they are off to a hot start, winning their first two games and jumping into the 3A top ten this week. Plainview has some young playmakers that we really like but the Davis option attack will pose a different threat to them this week. Davis will be looking to turn things around after Sulphur was able to run away with the win in the second half last week. The Wolves are also looking to enter district play with a 2-1 record after starting last season at 0-3 but going on to win the state title.

ELGIN (2-0) AT NEWCASTLE (2-1)

Elgin makes a trip up to Newcastle in another 4A VS 5A showdown of top ten teams. Elgin is the reigning 4A champ and has certainly looked like it through the first few weeks. They are coming off a bye week and should be fresh and ready to go. Newcastle bounced back from a week one loss to Tuttle by winning a high-scoring affair against Blanchard. The Racers should come into this game with a ton of momentum after lighting up the scoreboard in week two, scoring in all three phases of the game. But Newcastle will have their hands full with an Elgin team that plans on making another trip to Edmond in December. For the Owls, this could be one of the last real tests before the playoffs roll around as they are heavy district favorites.

HOMINY (1-1) AT PAWNEE (1-1)

In the first of two A-1 VS A-2 match-ups of top ten teams, Hominy travels to Pawnee in an interesting match-up where both teams are coming off losses in week two. Pawnee is looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Stroud. But the Black Bears have already looked pretty good this season and will give the Bucks a significant challenge this week. For Hominy, they ran away with a week one win but then let one get away in the second half last week against Pawhuska. For both teams, finishing will be the key word as they look to put a solid game together for all four quarters. Both teams have to be considered serious dark horses to challenge in their respective classes. But one team will go into district play at 1-2 on the season.

MILLWOOD (0-1) AT HERITAGE HALL (1-1)

This match-up has become one of the marquee non-district games each year because it features two state title contenders in their respective classes. 3A's Heritage Hall will host 2A-1's Millwood but both teams head into this week coming off a loss. Millwood had their Soul Bowl winning streak snapped against rival Douglass on Saturday while Heritage Hall lost to 3A rival Lincoln Christian in week one but they had a bye week in week two. Needless to say, they'll be ready to get back on the field, looking to wipe the slate clean before district play begins. But no matter what happens Friday night, both of these teams expect to be in the championship hunt. That's been the case for the Chargers and Falcons for the last decade.

POCOLA (2-0) AT VIAN (1-1)

This is a very intriguing small school clash as 2A-2's Vian hosts A-1's Pocola on Friday night. Last season, (and really for the last decade) the Wolverines dominated the Indians but this season, Pocola has been lights out through their first two games. But they are going to face a very angry Vian squad after the Wolverines squandered a fourth quarter lead to Kiefer and dropped a 30-29 week two decision. It's not a stretch to say that both of these teams are state championship-caliber squads but they do it in different ways. Vian uses a legitimate two-headed monster at running back while Pocola will air it out but both teams can light up the scoreboard. On paper, this looks like a match-up that will be more competitive this season.

REJOICE CHRISTIAN (1-1) AT CHRISTIAN HERITAGE (1-1)

Class A-1's top-ranked and defending champion Rejoice Christian will go on the road to face #5 Christian Heritage on Friday night. These two teams met twice last season and the Eagles swept the two meetings, winning in the regular season and then in the semifinals, on their way to their first ever state championship. Christian Heritage got their first win of the season last week when they shut out Crooked Oak but Friday night's match-up is obviously a much more difficult challenge. Rejoice Christian is going to come into Friday's game with a sour taste in their mouth. They lost to Cascia Hall in week one and by the time kickoff happens, they will have had two weeks to think about it before getting back on the field on game day.

STILLWATER (2-0) AT CARL ALBERT (2-0)

This might be the game of the week as 5A's top-ranked Carl Albert hosts 6A-2's #2 Stillwater and the match-ups here are going to be fun to watch. The Pioneers are averaging north of 50 points per game after their first two games, with an offense that is absolutely electric. But they face a Carl Albert defense that has been stingy for the last two seasons and this year is no different. Carl Albert is led by their front seven and specifically the defensive line. But those guys will be going against Stillwater's offensive line, that might be the best OL unit in the state this season. This match-up is full of heavy hitters. Carl Albert has won 41 consecutive games but that winning streak could be put to the test in a major way on Friday night.

WOODLAND (1-1) AT PAWHUSKA (3-0)

Our final match-up will be the one we're covering on Friday night as A-1 contender Pawhuska hosts A-2 defending champion Woodland on Friday night. The Huskies, under head coach Matt Hennesy have been knocking on the door of contending for that state championship and they might have the team to go ahead and kick that door down this season. They are off to an impressive start this fall. They host a Woodland team that is still trying to find their identity. It's a tough start to the season at 1-1 after a perfect season in 2024. The Cougars bounced back from a week one loss by narrowly beating Morrison last week. This defending champ has a lot of new faces but they are a defending champ and will be fighting like one all year.
