SOLON, Iowa - Solon moved into Class 3A's top spot in this week's Prep Redzone Iowa Rankings with Friday's 35-20 victory against previous No. 1 Mount Vernon. It's as close any opponent has come to defeating the Spartans (3-0) in 2025.

It's a roster filled with talent. Here are six Solon guys who caught my attention on Friday:

When I watched Kampman last season, he was lined up at cornerback and doing a nice job with it. Fast forward to the third week of 2025, and the senior was slinging it from behind center. The son of former University of Iowa standout and NFL All-Pro Aaron Kampman, Eli impressed with his command of the offense as a first-year starter. He completed 11 of 18 throws for 192 yards and three touchdowns against no interceptions. Kampman also showed he can ding defenses with his legs. He entered this contest with just 39 yards on the ground but led the rushing attack with 119 yards, many of which came as the result of designed runs. Kampman has the size, athletic ability and arm to help plenty of programs on the next level. That he's just scratching the surface of what he can become should make him even more attractive to college coaches.

Kelley caught my attention last season when he proved to be one of Solon's best two-way players as a sophomore. Not resting on his laurels, he looked like he put in a lot of work when I saw him in again during Week 3 of the 2025 season. Kelley's preparation is apparent by him often being in position to make plays. On offense, he rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns, adding an eight-yard TD grab. Defensively, seven of his 7.5 tackles were of the solo variety. Kelley maximizes his frame by playing fast and physical on both sides of the ball. He's one of those guys that looks to be playing at a higher tempo than most of the other players. Kelley probably fits best as a slot corner/safety type on the next level, and someone who would improve special teams' play of his team.

It was good to get a fresh look at Feuerbach after being impressed with how he played a year ago. This scouting opportunity came in Week 2 of the 2025 season, when he put forth an impactful performance against rival Mount Vernon. Feuerback shows next-level potential on both sides of the ball, and I could see college coaches being split on his future home. One thing is for sure, he can play on the next level thanks to a mix of power, agility and nastiness. On offense, his strength and athleticism allow him to be a well-wounded blocker capable of mauling in close quarters or picking guys off in space. Those traits play well on defense, too, where he's a relentless pursuer of the ball while also operating within the framework of the scheme.

During an in-person scouting opportunity in Week 3 of the 2025 season, Myers showed me his potential as a prospect on both sides of the trench. The senior disrupted what his opponent wanted to do offensively by controlling the line of scrimmage and racking up 2.5 tackles for loss. As much as he impressed on that side of the ball, Myers stood out a bit more as a center. Solon continually found success running behind him during a 35-20 victory against rival Mount Vernon. Myers is a smooth operator, concentrating on getting the ball to the quarterback before paving the way with leverage and power. He also sets up well in pass protection and communicates well with his line mates.

Milliman looked like a prospect packed with potential when I watched him play as a sophomore last season. During another in-person scouting opportunity in Week 3 of 2025, he was continuing to realize it. On a night when his team leaned on the running game, Milliman did his part blocking up plays. His frame lends itself to him being an asset in this regard, as it also aids him in being a tough matchup when the ball is thrown his way. On the other side of the ball, Milliman played a key role in tamping down a potent Mount Vernon passing attack. He operates smoothly in coverage, using his speed, athleticism and long arms to lock down. And, again, his size and physicality make him a factor in run support.

Hoeper got his feet wet as a sophomore on the varsity last season. During an in-person scout in Week 3 of the 2025 campaign, he was putting those lessons to good use. During a 35-20 victory against rival Mount Vernon, he caught three balls for 44 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he contributed a pair of solo tackles and was a key component in the Spartans slowing down a dangerous Mount Vernon passing attack. Hoeper operates fluidly on that side of the ball with the potential to be a well-rounded corner or safety capable of locking down in coverage and supporting the run. His frame and athleticism work well at receiver, too, where he can beat defenders in multiple ways. It's up to colleges staffs to decide where they like him best, but he's a next-level kid.
