IOWA CITY, Iowa - City High started fast but couldn't keep pace with visiting Norwalk Friday night here at Bates Field. The visitors claimed a 40-19 victory on the Little Hawks' homecoming.

I was thoroughly impressed with Mensah during in-person scouts last season. It was great to get another viewing of him during a contest against Norwalk in Week 5 of the 2025 campaign. He still looked the part from a physical standpoint. The difference was his improved consistency and sharpened skill set. You could see work was involved in development. Simply put, he's a better offensive lineman. Norwalk threw a high-end D-I athlete at him and tried other options. He held his ground with a quick setup, strong foundation and smooth feet in pass protection. There's also a lot of physicality, which shows up even more in run blocking. Mensah moves well with an ability to reach blocks in space and while in motion. He should be receiving more attention from colleges.

My first in-person scout of Kurtz happened during Week 5 of the 2025 season when the Little Hawks played host to Norwalk. He was splitting time at quarterback and flashed plenty of potential at the position. It was a developing passing game and a threat to inflict damage to the opponent with his legs. Kurtz completed 11 of 15 throws for 99 yards and a touchdown against an interception. He rushed for 49 yards and a score. The TD run highlighted his speed, quickness and strength. Only midway through his second prep season, Kurtz has time on his side. It's worth seeing where he can take his quarterback play while also knowing his athleticism leaves doors open for other positions.

Heick is a productive prep senior that's far from a finished product. When scouting him during Week 5 of the 2025 season against Norwalk, plenty of projection remained for a prospect with position flexibility. Heick led the Little Hawks with 8.5 tackles (5 solo, 1.0 TFL) in this game. He's a rangy linebacker able to get downhill quickly and cover sideline to sideline. Heick plays fast and welcomes contact. He displayed that on defense and also in blocking as a tight end. Heick's frame is such that it can add plenty of good weight without him forfeiting any of the athleticism that makes him effective. It could take a year or two at the next level to hit his stride, but he's a guy worthy of a closer look from colleges.

Lampe is hard-nosed kid that maximizes his talent by playing the game with all-out effort. Lacking the prototypical physical traits of a running back, he rushed 19 times for 119 yards and a touchdown when I was scouting City High against Norwalk during Week 5 of the 2025 season. Lampe chewed up a lot of real estate by picking his way between the tackles and finishing his runs. A receiver by trade, Lampe poses a threat as a receiver as evidenced by his two scoring catches this fall. Colleges should view Lampe as a prospect capable of developing as a running back but also one that might fit at receiver or defensive back with his skill set. He'd also be a special teams' asset.

Goodrich was one of the kids I was most looking forward to seeing when scouting the Little Hawks against Norwalk in Week 5 of the 2025 campaign. I'd heard good things about his game, and he was starting at left tackle as a sophomore. Goodrich did not disappoint. Matching up against a formidable Warrior defensive front, the 10th-grader performed at a high level. Goodrich stands out for his agility. That's a great building block for a young player with his size. He can move and hit assignments in space. There's physical and technical development ahead, but Goodrich is a prospect that should be on the radar of a lot of colleges, if he isn't already.

Willey is a guy that's stood out whenever I've scouted City High the last few years. He makes up for the lack of cookie-cutter physical traits as a lineman by being a relentless competitor. That was the case when scouting him against Norwalk during Week 5 of the 2025 season. Willey lined up at right guard on offense and shifted around on the defensive front. He uses quickness and technique to his advantage against larger opponents. Willey probably fits best as a D-Lineman on the next level. There's room for physical development and adding strength that can pair nicely with the high tempo at which he operates.
