Five weeks into the high school football season in Iowa, passing games and offenses across the state have lit it up through the air. Let's take a look at some of the top receivers that have blown the doors off the competition as some of the most productive pass-catchers through the first half of the regular season.

With the seventh-most receiving yards in all classes on just 20 catches so far this season, [player_tooltip player_id='1689991' first='Samuel' last='Benson'] of South Hardin has registered 550 yards on 27.5 yards per catch to start the year. Benson is right up there with [player_tooltip player_id='1238635' first='Ethan' last='Headings'] (who we previously highlighted as an offensive stock-riser), who has caught 27 passes or 746 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 27.6 yards per catch for Iowa City West.

That, and just under 50% of his catches have been touchdowns, as he's already caught eight so far this season.

A fixture in the offense for the Tigers since his sophomore campaign, Benson broke onto the scene as a junior in 2024 with 54 catches for 1,003 yards and ten scores, and he's on pace to surpass those numbers in a big way this fall. If South Hardin can continue their team success into the playoffs, he should blow those numbers out of the water. Undefeated through five games so far, the Tigers are set to take on the 1A defending champions this Friday at Grundy Center for the Spartans' homecoming.

A key cog in the air-it-out offense that Central Decatur employs, [player_tooltip player_id='1923598' first='Brody' last='Hamilton'] has caught nearly 30% of senior quarterback, Asher Norman's passes so far this season. A hit-or-miss offense that has completed just 95-of-195 passes (48.7%) attempted this fall, Hamilton has caught 30 passes for 703 yards and seven touchdowns.

Fun fact: Hamilton isn't even first in receptions on his own team. Fellow senior Paxon Applegate has caught 42 passes for 523 yards and three scores.

Part of another offense that loves to go to the air with senior gunslinger, [player_tooltip player_id='1614201' first='Cal' last='Bonifas'], [player_tooltip player_id='1923069' first='Keenan' last='Kilburg'] and Bellevue moved up to Class 2A this fall after dominating through the passing attack in Class A in 2024.

Last season, Kilburg grabbed 100 receptions for 1,159 yards and ten touchdowns, and so far in 2025, he and Bonifas have shown no signs of slowing down. Through five weeks, Kilburg has caught 46 passes for 731 yards and nine scores, set to surpass the numbers he put up last season in a smaller class.

Bonifas was a contender to find himself on the list of quarterbacks crushing it this season, too, as he's completed 116-of-166 passes (69.9%) for 1,484 yards, 17 touchdowns and five picks.

One half of one of the top tandems in all of 5A alongside recently reclassified tight end and Power 4 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1198816' first='Luke' last='Brewer'], [player_tooltip player_id='283943' first='Eli' last='Robbins'] may not even be the headliner as part of the Norwalk offense -- and still, he leads 5A in receptions. A preferred walk-on commit to Iowa, Robbins finds himself on a list pertaining to a position he won't play at the next level.

Already written about this week by our Rob Howe, Robbins deserves as much attention as he's gotten, as one of the most versatile prospects in all of Iowa. Set to play defensive back for the Hawkeyes, the 6-foot, 195-pound athlete has caught 41 passes for 446 yards and five scores to start the season. His cohort, and potential future teammate in Iowa City, Brewer has put up 26 catches for 357 yards and five scores.

One of the more overlooked recruits in the state, [player_tooltip player_id='1197479' first='David' last='William'] immediately stands out as a long, athletic physical specimen with a wide catch radius. The 4A leader in receptions (35), yards (624) and tied for the lead in touchdown catches with [player_tooltip player_id='1619967' first='Tycen' last='Augustine'] of Le Mars (eight), William has jumped out as the top receiver in his class after bouncing back from an injury that hampered his junior campaign.

William often doesn't get recognized, likely because of the fact hat he has yet to fill out his frame, the Tornadoes haven't produced as much team success and he hails from Northwest Iowa, a lesser-populated part of the state. Still, he deserves college attention just as much as the next prospect, and a program will be better for adding him to their ranks.
