PRZVA Team Previews: Green Run Stallions

The Green Run Stallions have won 37 games in the last 3 years and are poised for another run at a class 5 state title. This year, they have a particularly talented team, loaded up with Division 1 talent in both the trenches and the defensive secondary. Green run has always been known for it's skilled players and explosiveness, but they now have 2 bonified Virginia Tech Commits in the trenches. They now have a more physical defense and I look forward to tracking what the stallions can do in December.      Thomas has elite size, frame, and ability to move. He does a great job of getting to the second level and laying the wood on kids. In run blocking, he gets his butt to the hole and drives kids, with multiple pancake blocks on film. He has great wingspan and a wide body, can add 30 lbs in college. He shows upside blocking in space on screen plays, he has above average COD. His AA is good and just needs to play with more urgency and have a more consistent motor. He is still developing mentally and physically as player, which is a good thing as he has NFL potential. He's still growing in to his body and learning to trust his football instincts. Does a great job of setting the edge, shedding blocks, and making tackles. Most of his film shows good discipline against RPO QBs. Believe he's a bandit next level because he is active, but also shows range and closing speed. He has athletic tools to drop back into coverage if necessary. Needs to get lower and use leverage more when tackling. Overall, like his aggression, length, discipline, and range. A hybrid player IMO at next level. Needs to develop upper body if he wants to be a true edge. Has ceiling to be an All-ACC player at Virginia Tech.     Great film, kid moves like a corner and has the right intangibles for position. Fluid in the hips, good cod, great back pedal, runs well downfield. A little more hand contact on WR than I would like to see, but not a major red flag and can be coached out of him. Tackling needs to be cleaned up as he doesn't wrap up, run his hips, or have good contact power. Needs weight room as college RBs will break his tackles. Coverage skills are very impressive, can be a P4 starter. The position is very natural to him, has the right traits to be developed. His weaknesses can be improved with strength training and technique. With college workouts and diet could see him as All-conference corner.       Great length, high upside kid. Flashes trigger and breaks on the ball well. Is more natural at WR but has the athletic tools to be a long cover corner at P4 level. He is sudden, shows ball skills, and is a long strider. Shows long speed on film creating distance between would be tacklers. He is raw, a shifty WR could be a matchup problem for him. Has tools to be high upside player at Virginia Tech. His film shows him at both corner and safety, has skills for either position. Long, fluid, and good ball skills. A smooth strider who recovers well. His contact power is most noticeable. He needs to run his hips more and go through the ball carrier, but great initial contact. Needs to be careful about injuries because he tackles at pad level. A nice looking 6'0 170, wide body, broad shoulders, can easily add 20 more lbs. Fun player to watch, can pick up more offers. Junior season can dictate a lot about who recruits him. Do not believe his aggression is a liability, but may need to improve on reading keys and discipline. His frame and aggression can't be taught.     Another playmaker in the Green Run defensive backfield. Runs great pursuit angles and has good contact power. Small in stature, but strong and explosive. Great COD, great straight line speed, great short area quickness. Length will definitely hold his recruitment back, but he'll find a home somewhere. Plays bigger than size, comes up in run support well. A dynamic athlete, who can be a nickel corner or even slot receiver in college.     Have written Corvin up multiple times, you have to love his film. He is at least an FBS starting Will backer imo. Has great AA, versatility, and football attributes. Most like his range, ability to play in space, and decisiveness. Just a great pure football player and with elite AA to compliment it. A rising sophomore, there are a few things to clean up technically, but he will be polished by junior year. Strong kid who can pack on more weight. Searches and destroys, shows great play strength and physicality. A kid who loves football and can galvanize teammates.
