Breakdown: The Gering Bulldogs had a huge turnaround season last year in which they earned a playoff berth for the first time since 2011. Gering looks primed to continue that run this season as they return a number of key players from last fall. Right at the forefront is QB [player_tooltip player_id='1114608' first='Rece' last='Knight'], who emerged as a dual-threat with his 1,226 passing yards, 462 rushing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, and five rushing touchdowns. He will be without his top rusher and receiver from last season, but two-way stud [player_tooltip player_id='1114607' first='Bo' last='Gable'] looks primed to step into a bigger offensive role after recording 293 receiving yards and three touchdowns to go with his team-leading 120 tackles, 5 TFLs, a sack, an interception, and a blocked kick on defense. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1815930' first='Bodie' last='Kumm'], Gabe Milton, [player_tooltip player_id='1815933' first='Tyler' last='Cape'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1573617' first='Lukas' last='Kadolph'] will make life difficult for opposing offenses as well. The Bulldogs will have a favorable schedule with several winnable matchups; however, the backend of the schedule does feature some tough playoff teams, including McCook, Scottsbluff, Chadron, and Hastings.

Breakdown: The Hastings Tigers will look to rebuild quickly after graduating a very talented 2025 class. However, the cupboard isn't bare in the talent department with several important players remaining on the team. Senior receivers Brody Deher (374 yards & 2 TDs) and [player_tooltip player_id='1270510' first='Broeyn' last='Hartman'] (264 yards & 2 TDs) will make life easier for whoever steps into the open QB1 spot this fall. On the offensive line, junior [player_tooltip player_id='1297112' first='Jezoar' last='Trochez'] and Layne Schafer will be the main enforcers at the line of scrimmage. The opening stretch of games is going to be a real test for a young Tigers' team as they play York, GI Northwest, and Bennington in the first three games of the season. They will also have district games against McCook, Scottsbluff, and Gering, which were all playoff teams a year ago.

Breakdown: The Lexington Minutemen will look to right the ship after going 1-8 in 2024, behind a very young squad. Now, they are back with some more varsity experience and should be able to improve on last year's win total. They will be without last year's starting QB and 1,000-yard rusher, but waiting in the wings is junior QB Bryant Truax, who looks like the favorite to take over as QB1. Dynamic playmaker [player_tooltip player_id='1590703' first='Tyler' last='Thorell'] is also a name to keep an eye on after quietly having a great freshman season with 153 rushing yards, 230 receiving yards, two rushing touchdowns, two receiving touchdowns, 21 tackles, a TFL, an interception, and a forced fumble. The Minutemen will face a tough schedule if they look to make a run at a playoff berth, with matchups against GI Northwest, Scottsbluff, Gering, Hastings, and McCook looming large.

Breakdown: The McCook Bison made the transition from Class C1 to Class B look effortless, as they rode to a 6-3 regular season record and reached the quarterfinals. They return a great amount of production from that team and should be strong at several key positions. The backfield tandem of [player_tooltip player_id='1114930' first='Trenton' last='Raile'] (QB) and [player_tooltip player_id='1429587' first='Tristan' last='Campbell'] (RB) will be tough for any defense to game-plan against. Trenton proved he can make plays with his arm and legs, recording 885 passing yards, 258 rushing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, and five rushing touchdowns. Campbell also exploded for 1,360 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 206 carries. Defensively, the Bison should be strong at all three levels, especially along the LB group and secondary. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1114931' first='Gabe' last='Roberts'], [player_tooltip player_id='1625806' first='Oliver' last='Corbett'], and Campbell all recorded at least 50 tackles and did an excellent job fitting the run and pressuring the QB. They have great length and athleticism in the secondary with players like Miles Pollman, [player_tooltip player_id='1429566' first='Ty' last='Junker'], and Raile returning to patrol the air attack. Their Week 3 matchup against Waverly and Week 8 game against Scottsbluff will be true tests for the Bison to gauge where they sit with other Class B heavyweights. Aurora (Class C1), Gering, and Hastings are the other playoff squads on the roster.

Breakdown: The Scottsbluff Bearcats are a legit Class B contender yet again with a solid roster that nearly broke through last season. Although they lose a 1,500+ yard rusher, they hold on to another 1,000 yard rusher in their dual-threat QB, [player_tooltip player_id='1113962' first='Nate' last='Kelley']. Nate recorded 719 yards and 10 touchdowns through the air, while also gashing defenses for 1,245 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground. His top receiver, senior [player_tooltip player_id='1573618' first='Braxton' last='Burford'], is back after hauling in 17 receptions for 322 yards and five touchdowns last season. Defensively, the Bearcats lost a good chunk of their production, but they have a wealth of talent returning, with prospects like [player_tooltip player_id='1209690' first='Keon' last='Delgado'], Lucas Lively, [player_tooltip player_id='1573615' first='Adain' last='Haffner'], George Schmall, and Kobe Strom poised to make an impact. Their Week 4 matchup against Seward will be a chance to avenge the Bearcats' only regular-season loss last season. GI Northwest, Gering, Hastings, McCook, and York are interesting games against playoff squads.
