This list will obviously feature the best of the best in high school football in Oklahoma. Any player, offense or defense, in any class is eligible to be added to the Watchlist this season. We're looking for players that have the ultimate impact on their team. Whether it's filling up the stat sheet or having that clutch gene, we want the "it" players that have whatever "it" is. For this first installment, we don't have any games to go off so we're going back to the end of last season. Two of these players were finalists for the award last season and the other was an All State selection. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma every day for new content throughout the 2025 football season!

[player_tooltip player_id='424595' first='Masyn' last='Wright'] - Senior Running Back - Vian

Vian senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='424595' first='Masyn' last='Wright'] was one of two juniors that earned a spot as a Player Of The Year finalist a year ago. Wright was simply one of the best football players in the state of Oklahoma last season. He finished with over 2,100 yards and 36 touchdowns on just 181 carries. He also had over 200 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Wright had several games during his junior season where he finished a game with multiple touchdowns in different varieties. There were also games where the majority of his touches would end up with him in the end zone. He was quite literally a threat to take it the distance every time he touched the ball. He helped lead Vian to a 13-1 record but they had to settle for the silver ball in the 2A-2 title game. He's back and looking to lead Vian back to Edmond. In our opinion, he was clearly one of the best players in the state last season and we don't think much will change this season. Vian opens the 2025 football season next week, at home, against Eufaula.

[player_tooltip player_id='587262' first='Ricklan' last='B Holmes II'] - Senior Running Back/Linebacker - Del City

Del City running back and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='587262' first='Ricklan' last='B Holmes II'] was the other junior that became a finalist for the award last season. Holmes got on our radar during his sophomore season but there is no doubt that he was one of the most improved players in the state last season. And that's not to suggest he wasn't talented as a sophomore. Del City just didn't need him to play that "Superman" role in 2023. They needed it in 2024 and he delivered. Whether it was on offense as a running back or defense as a linebacker, Holmes would deliver in a big way. We got a chance to catch Holmes in person a handful of times during his junior season and it was evident that he was ready to take that next major step as a leader, in addition to being one of the best two-way players in the state. He made a significant jump in 2024 and we're looking forward to seeing what he's able to do as Del City opens their 2025 campaign on the road against Edmond Memorial Friday night.

[player_tooltip player_id='472321' first='Ritson' last='Meyer'] - Senior Running Back - Elgin

Elgin senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='472321' first='Ritson' last='Meyer'] was ready for his opportunity in 2024. You could see flashes in 2023 that Meyer could be a breakout star but he was also backing up the school's all time leading rusher. During his junior season, Meyer was unleashed and he had a significant impact for the Owls as they made a run to their first state championship in school history. From the opening game to the last one in Edmond, Meyer proved that he can be one of the best running backs in the state and in that title game in particular, he was an absolute workhorse. He carried the ball 42 times as he helped lead the Owls to the 4A state championship. He put up monster numbers and now he has a chance to come back for even more this fall. Elgin has a rebuilt offensive line and a new starting quarterback. Meyer could end up with an even heavier workload. But if that state championship game performance was any indication, Meyer will have no problems shouldering the load and leading Elgin once again.
