It's basically a coin toss between Maryville and Oak Ridge as the region winner with us choosing the Wildcats coming out on top. A big factor behind going with Oak Ridge was their overall depth and talent along with a strong senior core returning for the 2025 season. The Wildcats have a chance to be very explosive on offense with the return of <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='205650' first='Blaine' last='Stansberry'] </strong>at quarterback, junior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1567420' first='Damillyan' last='Porter'] </strong>at running back and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='331829' first='Will' last='Pressley'] </strong>along with <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='483481' first='Malik' last='Howard'] </strong>catching passes out wide. I think the biggest factor separating Oak Ridge from Maryville is the Wildcats defense and their potential for the coming season. Senior <strong>Tobja Walters </strong>is a problem up front for opposing teams. The Oak Ridge secondary has a chance to be special with guys like <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1648087' first='Tyree' last='Porter']</strong>, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1261312' first='Wayne' last='Gibson'] </strong>and rising sophomore cornerback <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1570535' first='Zayden' last='Williams']</strong>.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1815365,"width":"248px","height":"auto","sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepredzone.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2025/08/wpressley.jpg?w=400" alt="" class="wp-image-1815365" style="width:248px;height:auto" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Even though we picked Oak Ridge first, Maryville is literally right behind him and I wouldn't be surprised if the Rebels end up the region winner by season's end. Winning football games is what Maryville does and I expect them to have another strong year that could place them in the mix to compete for a 6A state title. The Rebels should have a balanced offense this season with junior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1723184' first='Will' last='Jones'] </strong>running the show at quarterback, providing dual threat abilities while senior <strong>Cameron Porter </strong>steps into the lead role at running back with an outside shot at Mr. Football with a breakout year. Top 20 prospect <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='284141' first='Brody' last='Smith'] </strong>and senior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1593834' first='Nash' last='Stinnett'] </strong>will be blocking up front to form one of the better O-line's in the East TN region. It's the Maryville defense where I have questions. I think the Rebels will be good but will they be championship caliber?</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I think Farragut is the clear cut to come in third but the rest of the region could be up for grabs. The Admirals have one of the better quarterbacks from the junior class in <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1292341' first='Corbin' last='Hobson']</strong> that will be given the chance to spin it early and often, throwing to a solid core of receivers, led by junior pass catchers <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1393974' first='Ethan' last='Farhat'] </strong>and tight end <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1292338' first='Aaron' last='Heatherly']</strong>. The Farragut defense must be figured out but their offense has a chance to be high scoring. Bradley Central and Cleveland both have a lot of question marks about them headed into the season with the Bears claiming the fourth spot right now due to having more overall talent. The Bears could have a strong rushing attack this year with <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1594746' first='Kenyon' last='Phelps'] </strong>starring at running back and junior big man <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1580778' first='Timothy' last='Gay'] </strong>opening lanes for him. Tight end <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1260422' first='Brady' last='Lewis'] </strong>is a rising star and he will be complimented by new addition <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='820949' first='Brayden' last='Carroll'] </strong>out wide. The Bears defense has some work to do but does have a good starting point up front with transfer and Tulane commit <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='927765' first='A.J.' last='Westfield']</strong>.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Cleveland appears to be in transition this year with a new staff at the helm and a lot of unknowns about their roster going into the 2025 season. The Blue Raiders had some top players transfer out, opening the door for new players to step up and take on bigger roles. Two guys to watch for as potential breakthrough players for Cleveland are senior <strong>Tytus Matthews </strong>and junior two-way prospect <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='966038' first='Kyree' last='Scott']</strong>. Speaking of transition, the Bearden football program has been completely overhauled as all their top talent left during the off-season to other schools, leaving the cup bare for the coming 2025 season. So much talent left Bearden that I have Hardin Valley finishing ahead of them in our preseason predictions and I wouldn't be surprised if the Hawks compete with Cleveland for that fifth spot.
