The 2024 football season was certainly a roller coaster ride that the Norman North Timberwolves would like to keep in the rear view mirror. Nobody could have predicted the start that Norman North would get off to in 2024. They came into the season as the #5 team in the 6A-1 preseason rankings but didn't win a game until week seven. The T'Wolves started with an 0-6 record and two of those games were decided by a total of eight points. There's no other way to say it, it was a disaster month and a half for Norman North and they were in danger of missing out on the playoffs. They beat Broken Arrow in week seven and followed that up with a win over Yukon. They lost to Owasso in week nine, although they did score 50+ points. Then they closed out the regular season with a win over Edmond Santa Fe. They faced Moore in the first round, a team that they lost to in non-district play. After losing 33-28 in week three, they beat the Lions 30-19 in the first round. That would send the Timberwolves to Bixby for their quarterfinal match-up and that's where the season came to an end at 4-8 as the Spartans went on to win another state championship. It was the fifth consecutive year that Norman North was bounced out in the quarterfinal round. But again, after week six, the T'Wolves were in serious danger of missing the playoffs altogether. The roller coaster came to a stop and now they look ahead to 2025. 2024 is in the past and this is a team that looks like they could bounce back in a major way.

2025 OUTLOOK

Norman North is going to open the 2025 season determined to avoid that slow start we saw last year. They play four of their first five games at home so that should help get off to a better start in 2025. On paper, this looks like a team that can make plenty of noise in Class 6A-1 as long as they stay healthy. Offensively, they have to replace a two-year starter at the quarterback position but Norman North has a fantastic reputation right now at developing quarterbacks over the last decade. It feels like every QB1 they've had in the last 10-15 years eventually signs with a D1 program. Right now, they have a battle going on but whoever wins the job is going to have the benefit of a D1 commit on the offensive line and the best wide receiver in the state lining up with him. Defensively, the Timberwolves are going to be more unproven but we really like some of the young talent they have on that side of the ball. This is a defense that has the chance to really improve from last year and some of those younger names that might be flying under the radar right now probably won't be flying under the radar by the halfway point of the season. Norman North averaged just shy of 30 points per game on offense and we think they will outdo that number this fall. And the same goes for the defense. Norman North expects to be a playoff team and we'll see if they extend their streak of quarterfinal appearances. But this group isn't going to be happy with settling for a quarterfinal appearance. They want to take that next step.

There's another Kolar that's making plays for Norman North on Friday night and will eventually be signing with a D1 program at some point. Junior tight end [player_tooltip player_id='1530058' first='Ben' last='Kolar'] started last season as a legitimate tight end prospect and he has had a very busy offseason. Whether it's 7v7 tournaments or camps, Kolar has been competing and he's benefitted from just that. Kolar's recruitment has started to take off and we're looking forward to seeing what his junior season looks like. He's a prospect that looks just as comfortable lining up as a hybrid tight end or putting his hand in the turf and coming off the edge of the line of scrimmage. He could have a big junior year.

Every spring, we have our camp tour and see plenty of schools and a ton of players. And every spring, there are a handful of players that we didn't know much about heading in and we came away very impressed. Junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1298836' first='Byron' last='Mason'] is one of those players for us. Mason was one of the best running backs we watched in the spring and he is primed for a monster junior season. It's an exaggeration but it seemed like every time he touched the ball, he was a threat to go the distance and he was at least picking up 5-10 yards. We're incredibly high on Mason moving forward and he should end up being one of the top running backs in 6A-1 this season.

Senior offensive lineman and Minnesota commit [player_tooltip player_id='1626554' first='Daniel' last='McMorris'] really started taking off around this time last year. He emerged as one of the state's top offensive tackle prospects and then became a legitimate Power 4 prospect. Eventually, McMorris would narrow down his options and landed on Minnesota. He's been committed to them for a while now and he's set to go into his senior season knowing where he's headed to college. On the football field, McMorris has a big responsibility to bring the rest of the Norman North offensive line along. They could be incredibly potent on offense with all the talent they have back but the O-line has to pave the way.

Junior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1717311' first='Joshua' last='Williams'] was a player that the Norman North coaches told us about this summer and as if on cue, he started picking up the attention of college coaches. Williams has started to pick up D1 offers and that isn't going to slow down anytime soon. We are fired up to see what he looks like this season, coming off the edge for the Norman North defense. We mentioned earlier in the preview how the defense has a lot of young but talented prospects on that side of the ball and Williams leads the conversation from that perspective. If he can cause havoc on the line of scrimmage, Norman North has players behind him that will benefit.

Senior and Washington commit [player_tooltip player_id='284117' first='Mason' last='James'] comes into this season as the top wide receiver in Oklahoma. James has been an absolute freak since bursting onto the scene during his freshman season. He became a true national prospect following his sophomore season. Earlier this summer, James committed to Washington, picking the Huskies over offers from just about everywhere else. The Norman North product is coming off an All State season and he's hungry for more. He's so fast with the football in his hands and he's incredibly smooth with all of his movements. James is going into this year as the top receiver in the state and plans on ending it as that before heading to the pacific northwest.

Sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1522514' first='Nash' last='Henry'] is projected to be QB1 for the Timberwolves this fall but it should be mentioned that as of right now, there is still a battle going between him and senior [player_tooltip player_id='533358' first='Joseph' last='Kelley']. But for Henry, he's been a name that has been on our radar since his 8th grade year. He checks a lot of boxes but it's all unproven at the varsity level. He has performed incredibly well, everywhere he's been but we're waiting to see how he does under the bright lights of Friday nights. Now, when you look at the skill talent that Norman North has, whoever the quarterback is this season is going to have the benefit of some absolute weapons on offense.

2025 SCHEDULE

Sept. 5th - Norman
- It's the annual “Crosstown Clash” and this year's meeting will have a little more meaning for Norman North. But more on that in a bit. In the game alone, the T'Wolves are looking to get back in the winner's column. They lost 37-27 in the opener a year ago, snapping a 4-game winning streak in the series.
Sept. 12th - Deer Creek
- Last year was the first year Deer Creek and Norman North faced off. It didn't go well for the Timberwolves. They fell 30-0 and that was a rare shutout loss for this Norman North offense. This year, Deer Creek will look pretty different with new faces everywhere but they still expect to make noise in 6A-1.
Sept. 19th - Moore
- The non-district slate will wrap up with a home game against Moore. These two teams met twice in 2024 and split the series. The Lions beat Norman North 33-28 in the regular season but the T'Wolves got the last laugh. They beat Moore 30-19 in the first round rematch. Moore will have a first year head coach this fall.
Sept. 26th - AT Edmond Memorial
- The district slate kicks off with Norman North's first road game of the season. They'll head up to Edmond to square off with Edmond Memorial in week four. The Bulldogs beat up the Timberwolves, winning 21-6 last season. Getting off to a good start in district play will be huge for the Timberwolves.
Oct. 3rd - Westmoore
- Norman North hosts Westmoore in week five and this was another one of those close losses that the T'Wolves suffered early in the 2024 season. Norman North lost 27-24 last year and that snapped a 4-game winning streak they had against the Jaguars. Avoiding an upset loss here is important.
Oct. 10th - AT Union
- The second half of the regular season begins with a road trip to Tulsa to face Union in week six. The Timberwolves fell 56-27 last season and they've only beaten Union once in the last 15 years and that came back in 2016. This will be a new look Union team under a new head coach.
Oct. 17th - Broken Arrow
- It's Fall Break for most schools but Norman North will host Broken Arrow on Friday night instead of Thursday this week. The 47-28 win over BA helped Norman North turn things around in their 2024 season. But Broken Arrow comes into this year with lofty expectations with a lot of new faces.
Oct. 24th - Yukon
- The win over Yukon last year helped solidify Norman North's playoff spot. This year, they're hoping it's just another win on the schedule. The T'Wolves doubled up the Millers 42-21 last season. They've won the last two in the series and three of the last five since 2020.
Oct. 31st - AT Owasso
- On a Halloween Friday night, Norman North heads back to the Tulsa area to square off with Owasso in week nine. Last season, these two played a very entertaining and high-scoring game, with the Rams prevailing 64-54. The T'Wolves are hungry to turn things around in the series as they've lost the last eight in the series.
Nov. 7th - AT Edmond Santa Fe
- The regular season will come to a close with a trip up to Edmond to square off with Edmond Santa Fe. Norman North has won the last three in the series, including last year's 55-28 win over the Wolves. However, last year was the first time these two teams were district foes in 15 seasons.

At the start of 2024, Norman Public Schools announced that for the first time, there would be a dedicated football stadium on the campus of Norman North High School. Since they opened in 1997, Norman North's football team has always played at the stadium on the Norman High campus. That won't be the case moving forward. The stadium was announced in early 2024 and by the time Norman North kicks off the 2025 football season, they'll be able to do so on their own high school campus. Head coach Justin Jones told us that everything with the construction of the stadium is still on schedule and the T'Wolves should be able to host rival Norman on their campus this year. We mentioned earlier how the annual “Crosstown Clash” will have a little more meaning for Norman North and there's the reason why. And for the T-Wolves, they are really going to get a chance to break this new stadium in. All three non-district games are at home this season and four of their first five games will be at home. The start of a new football season is always special but this will be a sentimental start of a new era for Norman North football.
