The Kiefer Trojans came into the 2024 football season with momentum after back to back 10+ win seasons. But the Trojans would look different with only six starters back on both sides of the ball. And they hit a couple roadblocks in the first month of the season. The Trojans went 24-3 in 2022 and 2023 combined. In 2024, they were 1-3 by the end of September after losses to Jones, Vian and Kingston. But they immediately turned things around to close out the regular season on a high note. They won their last six games and looked rather dominant while doing it. But an overtime loss to Kingston in the district opener back in week four would end up deciding the district championship. That would put the Trojans in the four seed heading into the playoffs. In the first round, they beat Tahlequah Sequoyah by 20+ points to get to the quarterfinals for the third consecutive season. This was the first time Kiefer made three consecutive quarterfinal appearances since they moved back to 11-man football in 2012. They did it as an 8-man program from 2009-2011. But they ran into the defending champs from Washington in the 2024 quarters and the season came to an end with an 8-4 record. But the Trojans had two options at the end of September. They could stay in the fight and claw their way back into contention or lay down. They fought back and had a solid second half of the season. Now, they're looking to continue that momentum into 2025.

2025 OUTLOOK

The Trojans come into the 2025 football season as a preseason top ten team once again and this year they bring back the majority of their starters from last year's team. Kiefer's coaches are really excited about the talent they have in the senior and junior classes coming into this season. It's a group of experienced and talented players that are hungry to continue Kiefer's winning ways. Six starters return on the offensive side of the ball and it starts with the quarterback. The Trojans had a new starting quarterback in 2024 and there were certainly some growing pains along the way but he's now back with a year under his belt and ready to take the next step. Kiefer averaged a little over 30 points per game offensively and we think they could certainly improve on that number. Defensively, the Trojans bring back eight starters and there is a great mix of returning talent to go along with some new faces that could provide an instant impact. Kiefer gave up 22 points per game in 2024 and just like with the offense, we'd be surprised if they don't improve on that number this season. Now, the schedule will once again provide some massive hurdles right from the start. The Trojans will face the #2 teams in Class 2A-1 and 2A-2 to kick off the season and they'll face defending district champ Kingston in the district opener for the second straight year. The Trojans will look to get out to a fast start because September could end up deciding quite a bit as everyone inches towards the playoffs.

Kiefer brings back quite a bit of talent on the offensive line but junior [player_tooltip player_id='1731915' first='Brennan' last='Watkins'] is at the front of the line. Watkins has been starting for the Trojans since his freshman season and he will now enter his third year as a starter on the offensive line. As if that wasn't enough, Kiefer is also going to start using Watkins on defense at a higher rate. This season will be his first starting for the Trojans at nose guard. Watkins is going to have a great opportunity to impact both sides of the line of scrimmage. And his size makes him an intriguing 2027 prospect to watch on top of all the experience. At 6'4 and just under 300 pounds, Watkins will be a problem for the rest of 2A-1.

Kiefer brings back quite a bit of experienced defenders heading into the 2025 football season. But one new addition is going to bring the pop from the linebacker position. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1301052' first='Carson' last='Cooper'] moved over from Beggs and is looking to be that instant impact player for the Trojans this season. Last year, Cooper would lead the Demons in tackles and now he's taking that experience and production and fitting right in with the Trojan defense. We liked the personnel that Kiefer had returning at linebacker before and now the addition of Cooper to that group makes them even better. He's looking to have another impactful season this fall, this time with Kiefer.

At this time last year, we were talking really only about the potential for quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1343433' first='Cash' last='Worley'] heading into his sophomore season. Worley had the tough job of replacing a very productive quarterback and he was thrown into the fire with that brutal early season schedule. Worley came out of it and has grown significantly as an all around player. Last season, he threw for nearly 1,000 yards and ten touchdowns while also adding over 250 yards on the ground. Now that he has a year under his belt, we anticipate that Worley will perform at a higher level this season. We like what Kiefer brings back on offense and it starts at QB with Worley heading into year two as QB1.

One of the toughest players to replace from last year's team is running back Bradley Breland when you look at all the production he's had but Kiefer might already have the guy i n place. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1731914' first='Dakota' last='Morris'] had a really solid junior season as Breland's backup and appears to be ready to step into a bigger role this season. Last year, he emerged as a big play threat for Kiefer. He carried the ball 48 times for nearly 550 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had a 75-yard touchdown reception. He really started to pick up momentum in the last month of the regular season. He had three 100-yard games. Morris appears to be ready to be a breakout star.

Aug. 29th - Sperry
- The 2025 football season opens up with a home game against Sperry in week zero. Last year, these two teams met to wrap up non-district play but this year, it'll be in the season opener. Kiefer won 18-12 last season and it was the third straight win over the Pirates in the last three years.
Sept. 5th - AT Jones
- In week one, Kiefer goes on the road to face Jones in their first road game of the season. Last season, the Longhorns shut out the Trojans 33-0. That was the second loss to Jones in the last three years. They also lost in the 2022 playoffs. Jones comes into this year as the #2 team in 2A-1.
Sept. 12th - Vian
- Kiefer wraps up non-district play in week two with a home game against Vian. Like Jones, Vian comes into this season as the #2 team in Class 2A-2. Last season, the Wolverines rolled to a 45-14 victory. And just like Jones, these two teams also met in the 2022 playoffs but Kiefer won that one.
Sept. 26th - Kingston
- District play will open up in week four after a much-needed by week for the Trojans. They open the district slate with a home game against preseason #5 Kingston. Last year, Kingston captured the district championship behind a 29-28 victory over the Trojans. Don't be surprised if this game decides the district champ.
Oct. 3rd - AT Roland
- Almost all of Kiefer's district slate last year featured teams the Trojans weren't familiar with. Roland was another one and the Trojans go on the road to face the Rangers in week five. Last season, Kiefer rolled to a 58-7 victory. That started their winning streak to close out the regular season.
Oct. 10th - Prague
- The second half of the regular season begins with a home game against Prague in week six. The Trojans met the Red Devils for the first time in recent memory last season. They would prevail behind a 40-28 victory. Prague could look different last year after losses to graduation and transfers.
Oct. 16th - AT Hugo
- During Kiefer's six-game winning streak in district play, the closest call came against Hugo. The Trojans beat the Buffaloes 30-28 last season but Hugo will have a first year head coach this season. But they also might have the best wide receiver in Class 2A-1 this fall as well.
Oct. 24th - Bethel
- In week eight, Kiefer returns home to host Bethel. Last season was the first meeting between these two teams in recent memory. The Trojans would beat Bethel 30-20. Both teams come into this season with quite a bit of experience returning on both sides of the ball and expect to win at a high level.
Oct. 31st - AT Heavener
- On a Halloween Friday night in week nine, Kiefer hits the road to square off with Heavener. Like almost all of their district match-ups, last year was the first meeting between these two teams in recent memory. Kiefer would dominate their way to a 60-9 victory last fall.
Nov. 7th - AT Okmulgee
- The regular season finale takes place on the road this year when Kiefer goes to Okmulgee. The Trojans rolled to a 64-0 victory last season and it was their largest win of the year. Out of the seven district opponents, Okmulgee was the only opponent that Kiefer was familiar with, having won five straight in the last five years.

There are a handful of teams that we can't help but wonder “what if?” when it comes to the outcome of the 2024 football season. The Trojans were originally slated to be in Class 2A-2 for the 2024 and 2025 football seasons. When a group of OKC-area private schools won a court decision in April, it forced an emergency redistricting shuffle that moved countless teams up and down. Kiefer went from being the potential favorite in their district in Class 2A-2 to being in a district that was completely all over the map. Now, the Trojans still managed to go 6-1 in district play, nearly capturing the district championship. But just like we've wondered with countless other teams, how would the 2024 football season have played out if everyone stayed in the class they were originally supposed to be in? It's a question that we'll never get answered but that court decision completely changed the overall outlook of the 2024 football season.
