The 2028 Rankings Update was a great display of what athletes can do in an offseason to raise their stock. We saw growth spurts, noticeable gains from weight room dedication, in-person camp performances, and also taking a second look at the freshman tape has led to several athletes making leaps up the charts. In today's article we are going to focus in on how the largest leaps were made. These kids are impressive and have a lot of momentum heading into the season. So keep a close eye on the athletes mentioned today!

One of the highest ceilings in the Class comes to us from one of our biggest risers. Eli checks in at a prototypical 6'4" 215 lbs, looking the part of a D1 recruit. The incoming sophomore spent his freshman season as a starting LB on varsity where he made noticeable improvements through his highlights. Eli flashed an ability to quickly run through gaps and could chase down plays outside the tackles. We also see glimpses of his ability to shed blocks and still make tackles with a couple yards of the line of scrimmage. Eli was just starting to scratch the surface last season. Be on the lookout for what he looks like early in his sophomore season.

One of the newest members of the Catholic Memorial offense and roster is former Arrowhead OL [player_tooltip player_id='1284796' first='Carter' last='Fromstein']. The incoming sophomore is in the midst of building a great frame for the position. A frame that on tape has shown it can pack a punch and move DL and the line of scrimmage downfield in the run game. That power shows up in his anchor during pass protection too as he quickly can set his anchor, punch, and stuff DEs early in their attack. Carter has no shortage of clips showing his unfair power at the JV level. It will be interesting to see if he can see the field on Friday nights and if he stays out at OT or moves inside at Catholic Memorial. Either way the talented athlete will eventually have his time to show for one of the top rosters in the state.

I have become a big fan of Sonny's in less than a year since these rankings debuted. The more I watched his 2024 highlights and watched his most recent scrimmage clips the more I have been impressed by all he has to offer. That is what led to the rise in the rankings. He has a great frame for the TE/WR hybrid role and does a really good job of using it to shield the ball from defenders as it drops into his hands. Sonny has shown he can be utilized to attack every level of the field. He is a smooth route runner, especially for his size and age. When he goes vertical the rising 2028 does a great job of finding the ball and positioning himself to be able to go up and get it over the DB and through traffic. The big frame, strong hands, ball skills, and ability to create space are already strong pillars of his game.

Things are starting to take shape for the WR/LB out of St. Catherine's in Racine. Jovanni is turning himself into a tough 1 on 1 matchup for CBs. In 2024 he made several of his highlights while getting downfield. Those clips highlight his ability to locate the ball and be aggressive to ensure he comes down with it. Whether it be will strong hands or by running underneath it. His strength out wide stood out from the rest of the secondary athletes as he could break tackles or create space with a box out or subtle hip check. His speed also made him a problem off the edge as an OLB. Jovanni is turning into an impact player on both sides of the ball and could find a consistent role on varsity this season.

Diego is a gamer! His highlights are filled with him ripping off long runs after the catch and also taking a jet sweep for a monster gain. Diego is very talented after the catch between his ability to see blocks, cutbacks, and also set up defenders. He also has solid top end speed and the ability to make DBs miss at the last second when it looks like they have him centered in their sites. Against athletes his age the '28 departed himself from the crowd with his athletic and playmaking abilities. I'm excited to see if he can work his way towards a Friday night role this fall.

We could be heading towards a massive breakout year for the Catholic Memorial RB who has worked his way well into the top half of our 2028 rankings. His highlights show an interesting RB talent. He doesn't come off as a burner, but the incoming sophomore is able to consistently produce big plays because of his patience for blocks to set up, vision and feel as things unfold in front of him, and his sudden burst and agility in tight quarters. His strong lower body and low center of gravity also help Isaiah to gain extra yards after contact. I'm looking for him to have a solid role on Friday nights this fall and launch himself further up this list by the time the season is over.

Carter was a key piece to the puzzle on offense and defense for the Arrowhead lower level team. On offense he was an impactful lead blocker who was able to remove LBs from holes and also could be utilized out in the flats as a target. But it is his play at LB that has me most excited. The first major takeaway is the sideline to sideline range. You see him chase down TEs one rep then show that he can knife through traffic to get to the ball on another rep. The 2028 has a nose for the ball and the athleticism to get him there quickly. Things are starting to come together for Carter.

We end with one final athlete who pushed himself from near the bottom to the top half of the rankings. [player_tooltip player_id='1531442' first='Logan' last='Beerup'] of Oregon is looking the part at 5'11" 185 lbs at the LB position. With three years ahead of him I'm excited to see what he can continue to turn his body into. Going through his one game highlights you get a great look at a potential three down LB in the future. He can fly downhill vs the run and get into the backfield quickly to create disruption and negative plays. Logan can also play in space and cover TEs. The effort and speed are there to make that TD saving tackle down the sideline too. I want to see more from Logan and will be keeping an eye out for new film once the season rolls around.
