*Use code Johnson30 for 30% off an annual Prep Redzone subscription*

With the ending of a season comes a lot of departure as seniors will be moving on to college or out into the "real world". That leaves some massive voids of key production open for the next wave of talent to compete for. For some teams the next man up seems more obvious than others, but nevertheless we are sure to see a lot of competition this summer for those open jobs. One of those vital production positions is RB, and after working through rosters there are several kids who look like they are in line for breakout workloads. I want to get those kids on everyone's radars before the season, or even the summer, rolls around. Let's talk running backs!

River Falls has a ton of production to replace this year from the OL to QB to RB1. Luckily for them, the next man up at RB1 is coming off some solid contribution as a sophomore. Trevor added 54/362/3 to the explosive River Falls ground game in 2025. However, the graduating senior ahead of him leaves nearly 2,000 rushing yards open for the taking. Trevor looks built for the job. He has a fantastic frame at 6'2" 205 lbs. A frame that can handle the wear and tear, the tough yardage, and the overall physical demands of the position. The clips from 2025 show that Trevor is going to be a problem to bring down. He is so strong and despite the long frame we don't see him get knocked off balance very often. He is big, strong, and ready for a massive junior season.

The Oconomowoc offense has consistently produced strong numbers from their RB1s. Their graduating senior put up nearly 1,500 yards in 2025, and Damian looks firmly in position to take over a lot of that work. In 2025 Damian put up 51/371/3 in backup duty, and that line has me excited for what he could do with more touches. Damian was able to average 7.3 yds/carry in 2025, giving a glimpse into the big play threat that he is. Damian brings speed to the field and that quick twitch agility needed to maneuver through traffic. I'm getting ready for some exciting film from Damian this fall.

DC Everest will be looking to replace their 1,000 yard rusher in 2026, but it looks like they have the weapons to do that. The leading candidate is current sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1627995' first='Andrew' last='Bangtson'] who finished 2025 with 53 carries for 317 yards. That is the most production returning to the RB room in 2026. The 2028 RB is a playmaker and ready for that increase in touches. He made plays on the ground and as a receiving threat. Andrew is so versatile we even saw him at TE in 2025. In 2026 we see him take the lead in the backfield and start to really pile up the production.

Milwaukee Lutheran will be looking for a new focal point of the offense. They graduate their leading rusher who put up 900+ and 9 TDs in 2025. Harlem was 2nd on the team with 39/199/2, so he looks like he is in line to be the next man up. Harlem is a quick hitting RB who shows burst to and through the hole and his frame is well built so that he can fall forward at the end of plays. We also see flashes of contact balance throughout his sophomore highlights. Harlem was just scratching the surface in 2025. 2026 is the breakout year.

Things are shaping up so that '27 RB [player_tooltip player_id='1283677' first='Dom' last='Dorsey'] will have a great chance to tote the majority of the workload in his senior season at Nathan Hale. Dom wrapped up 2025 with 34/146/1 on the ground behind a pair of talented seniors. With those two graduating it opens up 200 carries and 1,000+ yards for the taking. Dom is built for the increase in touches. He has a stout frame that thrives on plays where he can read the line, make one cut, and get up field with a solid burst. He has a lower center of gravity that can help him pile up yards after contact on a weekly basis this fall. Don't sleep on the soon to be senior.

Austin is new to my radar, but he landed on it because it looks like he could be next up as RB1 for Portage. The junior finished 2nd in all rushing categories for the Warriors going for 68/401/5. In 2025 Austin was utilized to attack the edge of the defense and proved he has the speed to do so and also the vision to find alleys to cut back through. Austin has proven that speed can beat angles consistently. It will be interesting to see if they move him around the formation to get him more touches or if they increase his touches while playing him at his usual wing position.

2026 looks like it will be Tre'Maine's year for a breakout. He is the leading rusher returning to the team in 2026 despite only putting up 18/84/1 in 2025. He is actually the only non-QB with a carry returning in 2026. I'm very excited for the breakout year from the junior because his JV tape shows an athlete who stood out from the crowd in 2025. Chapman was so much faster, agile, and more explosive than his opponents. He was able to create big plays from scratch and is an electric athlete with the ball in his hands. Get this kid on your radars for this season.
