The Adair Warriors came into the 2024 football season with high expectations following an 8-4 district championship season in 2023. They came into the year as a top five team in the newly formed Class 2A-2 and they certainly lived up to the hype. The Warriors came out of the gate swinging, rolling through district play with a 3-0 record, averaging north of 50 points per game. But as we talked about around this time last year, the Warriors found themselves in arguably the toughest district in Class 2A-2. The Warriors were ready for the challenge. They beat Salina in week four and that would end up being their closest contest. They would run away with a second consecutive district championship, beating multiple ranked teams to finish the regular season with a 10-0 record. The Warriors beat Antlers in the first round but then were upset by eventual state champ Davis in the quarterfinals in heartbreaking fashion. The Wolves scored the game-winning touchdown with less than a minute to play. The season came to an end with an 11-1 record but the Warriors certainly took a step in the right direction. The offense was outstanding in 2024 but the defense saw the greatest improvement in year two under head coach Brady Bradbury. After giving up nearly 33 points per game in 2023, the Warriors gave up around 17 points per game in 2024. But the Warriors will certainly use the way 2024 ended as motivation going into 2025.

2025 OUTLOOK

Once again, Adair comes into the season as a top five team and one of the teams to beat in Class 2A-2. The Warriors certainly look like they are ready to take that next step and get back to contending for the state championship. Now, they have to prove it on the field and when it matters the most. Six starters return on the offensive side of the ball for a unit that averaged just under 40 points per game. This is a team that was led by their quarterback and with him returning in 2025, they have the chance to be even better this season. Defensively, the Warriors also bring back six starters on that side of the ball. And as we mentioned earlier in the preview, that was a defense that took a major leap forward in 2024. With the majority of their starters returning, it wouldn't be surprising to see them take another step forward in 2025. The Warriors will be searching for their third consecutive district championship this season. But this year, it will be much more than just winning another district championship. They are hungry to capture their first state championship since 2015. When Class 2A was split into two divisions in 2024, Adair was one of a handful of teams that we circled to become that consistent contender, year in and year out in the new Class 2A-2. The road is set up for Adair to make a run in 2025. But like we've said, they have to prove it on the field and to do it when it matters the most.

We didn't know much about senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1705470' first='Cole' last='Moody'] coming into the 2024 season but he certainly left an impact. Moody emerged as the team's leading receiver in 2024 and will come into this season looking to be one of the top targets again in the passing game. He had a solid sophomore season but his production in receiving yards almost doubled last season. He finished the year with over 600 yards and six touchdowns on just 25 catches. Adair was a run-first offense last season but with Moody and some of the other playmakers returning at the wide receiver position, that's going to certainly open things up for the Warriors to be more balanced.

All eyes will be on senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1328091' first='Cooper' last='McCord'] this season as he has the potential to lead Adair to their first state title since 2015. McCord is going into his second season as a starter on both sides of the ball. He's been a terrific linebacker for Adair since his freshman season but last year was his first year starting at quarterback. He responded by throwing for nearly 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns while also running for nearly 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was still among the team's leading tacklers on defense. Needless to say, McCord is going to be one of the top two-way players in Class 2A-2 this season and his numbers could be even better.

If you're looking for a potential breakout player for the Warriors this season, we might have that pick right here. Junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1705468' first='Quinton' last='Payne'] got significant playing time last season but with Boucher graduating, there will be more carries on the table for Payne. And when you look at the game logs from last season, the more carries Payne got, the better he produced. Including some of his best performances like the wins over Locust Grove and Kansas, where he had 19 and 14 carries respectively and went north of 100 yards. Fast forward to this season and Payne could definitely be a solid running mate to McCord in the Adair offensive backfield.

Senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1328092' first='Ryan' last='Wilson'] is a player that Adair fans will be happy to see back on the field in 2025. Wilson had a terrific sophomore season in 2023, emerging as one of the team's top wide receivers. Last season, he was completely limited and just didn't have the type of junior season that he was expecting coming into the year. But now, Wilson is listed as one of their top players to watch, specifically on the offensive side of the ball. We mentioned McCord needing to be able to throw the ball more this season and having reliable targets in the passing game will help that. Between Moody and Wilson, Adair should have a solid 1-2 punch in Class 2A-2.

When you're looking at the Warriors and where they will need new faces to step up, it's without a doubt on the line of scrimmage. Adair lost the majority of their starters on the offensive line but they have some guys returning that they are excited about. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1705472' first='Zane' last='Nichols'] is one of several guys in their senior class that they expect to impact the game on both sides of the ball. And as we've mentioned with several of the other players as well as earlier in this preview, the offense has the chance to be really special when you look at the skill positions. But Nichols and the rest of this Adair offensive line has to come together as a unit to pave the way for the Warriors.

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 29th - AT Jay
- For the sixth consecutive season, Adair and Jay will kick off their seasons against one another. The Warriors would get the best of the Bulldogs last season, winning 40-14 and that snapped a three game losing streak to Jay. This season, they'll be looking for the win and to even the record in this current series.
Sept. 5th - AT Inola
- Last season was the first time Adair and Inola squared off in recent memory. The Warriors would get the 46-7 victory but this year, they'll have to go on the road to face the Longhorns. Out of the ten opponents on the Adair schedule, Inola is the one that Adair has the least amount of history.
Sept. 12th - Locust Grove
- After back to back road games to kick off the regular season, Adair will get their home opener in week two, against Locust Grove. The Warriors won 75-42 last season and the Pirates won 60-46 in 2023. Needless to say, we could see fireworks, but Locust Grove will look dramatically different this fall.
Sept. 26th - Salina
- District play kicks off in week four with a big home game against Salina. Not only was this the closest game during Adair's run to a 10-0 record a year ago, but the Wildcats look like a real contender this season. The Warriors will be looking for their ninth win in ten seasons.
Oct. 3rd - AT Chelsea
- Adair hasn't lost to Chelsea in over two decades and they don't plan on starting this season. The Warriors have won 14 straight meetings with the Green Dragons. That includes last year's 54-8 victory at home and that would end up being the largest margin of victory in 2024.
Oct. 10th - Kansas
- In the last two decades, there isn't another team that Adair has faced more than Kansas and they have dominated this series. The Warriors will host the Comets to kick off the second half of the regular season. They won 35-21 last season and overall, they've won 13 straight games against Kansas.
Oct. 16th - AT Colcord
- It will be a short week as Adair hits the road on a Fall Break Thursday night to square off with Colcord. The Warriors got the win last season, in a 28-19 victory but this year's match-up will look a little different. Colcord has a first year head coach. The Warriors have won seven straight in the series.
Oct. 24th - AT Keys
- Prior to last season, Adair and Keys hadn't squared off on the football field in over a decade. The two teams met every year from 2006-2009 in district play. Last season was their first meeting and the Warriors prevailed 32-14 at home. Adair will be looking for their third straight win in the series.
Oct. 31st - Wyandotte
- On a Halloween Friday night, Adair will return home after back to back road games with a tough match-up against Wyandotte. Historically, this series has been one-sided, including last year's 40-14 victory. But Wyandotte brings back plenty of firepower to make this a potential shootout.
Nov. 7th - Commerce
- The regular season comes to an end in week ten with a home game against Commerce. This is yet another series that the Warriors have dominated over the last decade. They won 34-8 last season but it was their first meeting since 2019. Adair is 8-0 against Commerce since 2010.

Head coach Brady Bradbury is going into his third season as head coach of the Warriors and he has his alma mater going in the right direction. Bradbury graduated from Adair a little over a decade ago and took over as head coach before the 2023 football season. Bradbury was on staff before becoming the head ball coach and he's helped lead the transformation of this program. Adair has been one of the top 2A programs in eastern Oklahoma for over a decade, including when Bradbury was playing. In 2022, Adair suffered through a rare season where they went 2-8 and missed the playoffs. And it didn't look like things were going to be different in 2023. They began the season 0-3 but would rattle off seven straight wins to capture the district title. Overall, the Warriors went 8-4 in Bradbury's first season. They would then go 11-1 in year two and they have all the momentum in the world to make a run to the championship game. Adair has played for the championship just once and that was a decade ago, in 2015, when they beat Haskell 70-6. Bradbury is looking to lead his alma mater back to the mountain top this fall.
