6A- Region 1 Preview: Davis Darts

2024 record: 8-4   2025 Key Games:   Thursday, August 14- at Brighton   Friday, August 29- Mountain Ridge   Friday, October 3- at Farmington   Wednesday, October 15- Weber   The Darts have some important games this year and these four games are intriguing games. Kicking off the season with a Thursday night game at Brighton then facing an upstart Mountain Ridge, to a tough road game with Farmington and to end the season with Weber, these are key games that will determine how deep this team is and how far they'll go in the postseason.   2025 Hardest Games:   Friday, August 22- Fremont   Friday, September 19- at American Fork   These are the two toughest games. Fremont who was at the 6A classification last year and a road game at American Fork. How the Darts fare, will be an indication of how far they'll go in the postseason.2025 Outlook:The Darts are set up on offense to keep up with any offense in the state. The defense loses some production and star power, if the defense can take the next step, this is potentially a team that will contend for the 6A state title.   Key Players:    Bessinger has great size and frame. He is a quick processor, moves well in the pocket, has good manipulation and has a quick delivery. He can make off-platform plays with ease. Bessinger has a big arm and has a nice touch on his deep passes. His ball placement is excellent and he does a good job of leading his receivers open. He's set up for a huge season.     Sparrow is an exceptional multi-sport athlete, and two way player. If he solely focused on his skills as a defensive back, I'd argue he'd be a Power-Four recruit at that position. His true calling will be at receiver, where he showcases an array of release packages and has exceptional footwork and moves well laterally, with good overall speed. Sparrow creates separation with ease and is strong at the catch point. He does an excellent job creating on his own and after the catch. He is primed for a big year and is a bonafide stud.     Baggett is a dual receiver who can work outside or in the slot. He is twitchy and does well creating with the ball in his hands. He creates separation, and is a reliable target to move the chains and to get in open space where he can create and make defenders miss.     Itaaehau is a great athlete and an all around Swiss Army knife. He is a two way player and offensively, he can be lined up anywhere and is a chess piece. He does well creating with the ball in his hands and in space, is absolutely deadly. He does well with orbit sweeps, jet sweeps and has the speed and footwork to win vertically in his routes. He's the X-factor on the team as opposing defenses can put a safety over the other receivers, but if they do, that potentially puts a safety on Itaaehau and that is a mismatch nightmare. Defensively, he shows great ball skills, instincts and has good burst and closing speed and will make a play on the ball that comes his way.     Montgomery is another who will be tasked to help the pass rush. He is versatile and can be used as an interior rusher or moved outside. That duality opens up different options for Davis and they can be inventive with their pass rush.     Clark might be pushed into a bigger role as a rusher this season. He was effective last season and this year, he'll be leaned on. He shows good quickness of the line, has good strength to handle larger Linemen, and moves well on his feet and can disengage his blocks to pursue the ball carrier, he's going to be a key part of the unit that will be tasked to bring pressure.     Parker is an exciting athlete who has been a gadgety player for them offensively, he's been asked to be a running option and the signal caller has good size and physicality. Defensively, he's been a backer who is versatile and can rush the quarterback or drop back in coverage. He doesn't get lost in space and his background as a signal caller allows him to anticipate where the opposing quarterback will be going with the ball. He's primed to take over as the starting quarterback next year, but this year he'll continue to help out wherever he can.     Young transfers in from Corner Canyon and he should be part of that rotation as a backer and potential edge rusher as well. He is an athletic mover who has good bend at the hip and the ability to rush the passer. As an off-ball backer, he does a good job of getting into passing lanes and disrupting the flow of the opposing signal caller, he should have a productive season.     Lockwood was a tremendous asset last year and was all over the field, making plays. He's a versatile backer who plants his foot and goes. He has good quickness, is physical and showcases good adaptability. He'll look to get 100+ tackles this year.     Harsin is an excellent defensive backs and a glue guy for the defense. He is technically sound, has good anticipation, and is a textbook tackler. He's a versatile player who if needed can be a cover corner, cover bigger receivers and tight ends and can be a box safety or the deep safety. That versatility allows the other defensive backs to be interchangeable and without Harsin, the Davis defense would be lacking.     Brown is an athletic cover corner who shows good hip fluidity and overall speed. He does a good job at sticking to a receivers hip pocket and will look back and make a play on the ball. His ball skills and tracking allows him to be a potential ball hawk and can swing the momentum of the game in an instant.    That was our look at the Davis Darts, who'll be looking to make a deep postseason run, and a potential 6A state title.
