612QBs/612SWRs wrapped up their summer practice sessions last Sunday night, and with rumors of a massive group of both prep and collegiate athletes, I had to make my way down. Under the lights of the St. Thomas Academy Cadets varsity field, I watched some of the best QBs in the state toss the rock, and I've gathered a handful of them who've shown incredible growth. Meet some of the top preformers!

If you asked me to pick the best performer from the final coaching session, Soukup would be tied for my choice among all the prep QBs. Boasting the frame of a collegiate linebacker, Soukup is thick and perhaps had the best overall arm talent on display last night. Soukup has a cannon for an arm and showed off the ability to throw 50+ yards on a rope downfield. This isn't the first time this summer the 2027 standout has caught PRZ's attention either, and each time he continues to impress. He'll compete for the QB1 role for the Trojans this fall, but there's no question about the upside he possesses.

A staple of the 612QBs camps and practices, Bobholz looks to be gearing up for a big senior season in his second year as the Mankato West signal caller. Bobholz is a well-rounded QB who can fill a lot of roles for a variety of offenses. He's got a talented arm and can release the ball at a wide range of arm angles. His ball placement can be very high level, especially when you get within the red zone. He's got a pair of offers from Buena Vista and St. Olaf, and should be noted as a QB to watch ahead of the 2025 season.

I can't say enough nice things about Creighton. He was my other choice for top practice performer, and he's just now entering his sophomore year. He's got several qualities that one can consider elite. His ball placement, touch, and mechanics are all extremely high-level. He can throw on the run and off platform with ease and to great degrees of success, and Creighton only manages to improve. He threw for over 1,300 yards in just 7 games as a freshman, with a full year as a sophomore, the sky is the limit for what Creighton can accomplish both this season and in his future.

Thom is a 2026 QB I haven't paid enough respect to, and I'm changing that now. A summer rankings riser due to his consistently high-level performances on the camp circuit, Thom cemented himself to me as one of the top QBs in the state. He really impressed me with several excellent seam balls that were both well placed and carried impressive velocity. Thom boasts a smooth release, and I really liked his timing on short and comeback routes. While he didn't get to show it off during the practice, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention his ability to take over a crumbling play with his legs, as he had 300 rushing yards last season. Expect Thom to be one of the best QBs from the Twin Cities this season.

Every time I see Matheny, I wish he played in Minnesota and not Wisconsin. The kid is chock full of talent and has a litany of traits that colleges look at for a scholarship QB. Boasting a big arm and the ability to let the ball fly deep, Matheny hit several well-placed seam and fade routes throughout the night. He also ripped a handful of quick slants where the velo on the balls caught my eye. Matheny is starting to garner more attention, but it's shocking how he doesn't have a reported offer yet. He's going to be a big-time steal for whoever lands the Grantsburg product.

Another staple of the 612QBs camps and practices, Meyers has been gearing up for a big senior year after an offseason working in the lab. I think his best trait as a QB is the touch he puts on the ball. Rarely did I see wideouts have to adjust their routes to his ball. I was also impressed with his foot speed and his snappy release. Very few kids have put in as much work as Meyers, and I think we're going to see that pay dividends during his senior season.

The presumed QB1 for the powerhouse 4A program, Totino-Grace, Sarych had a strong showing and is looking to lead the Eagles back to the state championship for the second year in a row this fall. Several throws stood out to me, but the most glaring one was a back-shoulder fade he hit midway through the practice. Perfectly placed right into the wideout's breadbasket, and the receiver didn't have to slow down at all. Although it wasn't able to be displayed, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Sarych's ability to make plays with his legs, which is something he will likely show off during his fall campaign.

Very few QBs raised their stock as much as DenHartog managed to do in just two hours. He was extremely impressive and is among those in the conversation for best showing. He was dotting up receivers all night, showing off well-placed throws at every level of the field. His arm talent looked well-rounded, as he showed off both solid touch and velo. I watched some of his sophomore tape, and I saw vast improvements to an already capable QB. He was also a very personable young man and is someone I could see having a very productive junior year. Keep an eye out for DenHartog this fall.
