Catawba College held its 3rd Friday Night Lights Camp on June 27th on their campus at Shuford Stadium. Over 150 players were in attendance, where they were tested in the 40-yard dash, shuttle run, and broad jump. Players then went through an extended individual drill period before concluding the camp with some spirited 1 on 1 competition. We are going to look at 20 players who attended this camp and share our thoughts on why they should be players to know coming into the upcoming season.

Quarterbacks

[player_tooltip player_id='1453983' first='Geronimo' last='Sanchez'] - Cape Fear - The 6'3 225 pound Class of 2026 prospect was physically impressive and displayed some solid fundamentals going through drills. With 2400 yards and 22 total touchdowns last season, it's a safe bet that college programs are keeping a close eye on how Geronimo performs this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1656741' first='Ethan' last='Presley'] - Hunter Huss - Ethan has been working very hard this offseason, coming off of a nice, productive season last year at East Gaston. Ethan can deliver the football from a number of different angles and should fit well into the Huskies' offense, which has some players who can make some plays in the passing game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1278670' first='Branson' last='Norris'] - East Duplin - I always like to see quarterbacks who play in run-first in these type of settings because you can see a lot more of their overall game. Branson displayed some good arm strength and a nice touch on the deep ball, and it will be interesting to see if East Duplin opens things up a little more to utilize those talents.

Running Backs

[player_tooltip player_id='1169882' first='Zach' last='Cullen'] - Sun Valley - Zach had another strong camp performance, as he has every time I've seen him this offseason. Zach really showed well during the pass game 1 on 1 portion of this camp against linebackers, in my opinion; he consistently gained separation on multiple routes. Zach also participated in some linebacker drills and showed strong lateral movement.

Josh Bauman - West Carteret - An All-Conference running back last season, Josh showed strong footwork & agility through his drills during the individual period at this camp. Josh has the talent and potential to be a 1,000-yard back this upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1702336' first='Owen' last='Turner'] - Bandys - Rushing for almost 2,000 yards and 24 touchdowns last season is some serious production, no matter what level it's on. Owen has some good size at 6'1 and 200 pounds, and showed some nice speed & footwork overall throughout the entire camp. He will be one to watch as the season goes on.

Wide Receivers

AJ Davis - Concord - Speed, speed, speed is what I can say about AJ every time I saw him running a route; that was the prevailing thought for me. AJ is a strong player with the ball in his hands as well, and he's picking up some deserved college interest. I thought he was really good.

[player_tooltip player_id='1101229' first='Brandon' last='Bell II'] - RJ Reynolds - Brandon had a nice camp as well, he was more quick than fast in my opinion, I really liked the footwork he showed during wide receiver individual drills. Brandon is set up to have a nice season for the Demons this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1654186' first='Brody' last='Hunt'] - South Iredell - Brody continues to impress with strong route running and great hands at every camp he attends this offseason. He is in line for a big senior season as a main receiving threat for the Vikings in their offense.

Offensive Line

Alex Williams - Concord - Alex has experience playing in space as a linebacker, so a change to the offensive line is putting a good athlete on the move in short spaces. I think Alex will do well here. He's a proven leader and should be an important piece of the Spiders offensive attack this season.

Malik Williams JR - Salisbury - Malik is a powerful interior lineman who excels in pass protection and run blocking in space. 6'0 and 280 pounds, Malik also shows the ability to pull and trap with good technique and physicality.

[player_tooltip player_id='1839901' first='Cooper' last='Mullis'] - Mount Pleasant - Cooper is a stout interior offensive lineman prospect who does a good job of consistently moving his feet on contact and playing with good leverage. Cooper has worked hard this offseason at several different camps and showcases and should compete for a starting spot for the Tigers this upcoming season.

Austin Burk - Ashley - A 6'2 280-pound prospect, Austin shows very good footwork and hand placement on his pass protection techniques. Austin has picked up offers from Hampden-Sydney and UNC Pembroke earlier this off-season and looks ready to have a strong senior campaign.

Luke Craven - High Point Christian - An All-Conference tackle last season, I liked seeing Luke's athleticism and footwork in pass protection. Luke does a good job of using his reach to keep defensive ends from getting their hands to his body.

Defensive Line

Samuel Harrington - Concord - Samuel's quickness out of his stance produced a couple of good reps during the 1 on 1 pass rush period versus offensive linemen. Samuel, as a 2026 prospect, projects to be a major piece of the Spiders' defense this upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1079991' first='Joshua' last='Watts'] - Palisades - Joshua has been having a strong off-season with 3 offers so far, and I thought he did a good job overall here at Catawba. I thought the defensive line movement drills were were Josh stood out the most throughout the camp.

Linebackers

[player_tooltip player_id='1671933' first='Brenan' last='Schauer'] - Weddington - Brenan was probably the best coverage linebacker as he had several impressive pass coverage reps against running backs and tight ends. Brenan was aggressive in getting his hands on receivers legally and showed good speed in both short and long spaces.

Faison Manning - AL Brown - The 2027 prospect has been working hard at a few camps this off-season and he looks ready to contribute on the Wonders defense this season. I liked how Faison moved with good speed & agility through the individuals portion of the camp specifically.

Kaleb Cullingford - West Stanly - I put Kaleb in the linebackers category, but he competed as an EDGE player here and he looked really quick and fast in everything he did, including in the testing phases to start the camp. Kaleb has had a strong off-season and he figures to be an integral part of the Colts defense this season.

Darrell Harrison - York (SC) - I think this 6'3 200-pound prospect just across the border is a little under the radar right now. Darrell moves well for his size and he showed the ability to run with both backs and receivers during the passing game one on one period. Darrell has an offer from Livingstone and should have some more interest coming his way sooner than later.
