After pausing for a month for the 2026, 2027, and 2028 rankings updates, it's time to jump back into our county-by-county deep dives, highlighting the best players from across the Raleigh-Durham area. We're on the defensive side of the ball now and I'm looking at the top interior defensive linemen in Wake County.

Oriol is a versatile defensive lineman, and takes the top spot, despite being the only guy on this list who doesn't play exclusively on the inside. He's a bit of a tweener who should grow into a 3-technique at the college level. He excels at getting to the passer and is by far the most productive returning interior pass-rusher in the county.

A massive two-way lineman, Robinson gets the nod on the defensive line after narrowly missing making our offensive line list. He was extremely productive last season with 13 tackles for loss and can beat guys with speed or power. Ultimately, I like him best as an offensive lineman, but he's also one of the best interior defenders in the county.

Perry has room to grow as a pass-rusher, but he possesses the quickness to shoot gaps and blow plays up in the running game. Though he's not the biggest interior defensive lineman, he's good at eating up space and opening up things for his teammates. He's a guy we like a lot and I think he could take a step forward as a senior.

Hunt isn't your prototypical nose guard, but he's a beast in the middle. His raw numbers are excellent, as he racked up over 50 tackles last year, with flashes as a pass-rusher as well. He's gained plenty of strength this offseason, especially in his legs, making him even tougher to move in the middle. He's never going to be a power first nose tackle, as he's going to win with speed more often than not. But he's hard to move, and that's key.

Don't expect Conyers' raw numbers to wow you, because that's not his job. Not only is he a short-yardage space-eater who opens up tackling opportunities for his linebackers and pass-rushing opportunities for his edge rushers, but he's also going to play full-time at offensive guard this season. That will limit his time on the defensive side of the ball, but also means he'll get to be more of a specialized run-stuffer as a junior.
