Our rankings updates are timed strategically: We start a class after its freshman season on the field in December/January, update each class in late spring after seeing guys in camps, do a small update before the season to reflect depth chart changes and summer camp performances, then cover the season and start over after the playoffs.

So, while we just released our May rankings update, I have one eye on the end of summer. In this unique piece, I'm looking forward to August to give a few players I think could be huge risers then and what I need to see from them between now and the start of the season.

Potential August Rankings Risers

[player_tooltip player_id='267064' first='Haines' last='Robitzer'], QB, West Forsyth

Robitzer is a guy I've liked for a while, and a fresh start at West Forsyth could be huge for his stock. A guy with a strong arm and good decision-making, Robitzer has the look of a guy who could make a late recruiting run. If he starts that this summer, and I get word that he's going to look great in the fall, we'll get out ahead of it and move him closer to the top of the rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id='1671864' first='Marvin' last='Reed Jr']., RB, Hough

A Hopewell transfer, the first thing Reed did this offseason was start completely reshaping his body. He's added nearly 25 pounds while somehow also improving his burst and long-speed, hitting new PRs in multiple track events. That's just in three months. If he continues at this pace, he's going to be a completely different running back, with noticeably more power and balance. That's a good combination and potentially worthy of a rankings bump.

[player_tooltip player_id='1644371' first='Hayne' last='Tobias'], TE, Union Pines

Tobias is a versatile, athletic tight end and I'm already regretting not pushing him higher in the rankings. I have a high FCS grade on him but put him closer to the Division II range in this update, something I'll need to correct in August. Apparently colleges agree, as North Carolina A&T stepped in earlier this week with his first non-Ivy FCS offer. He's a guy I think could go on a recruiting hot streak as he continues to grow and add muscle.

[player_tooltip player_id='1539536' first='Brennan' last='Chambers'], WR, Kinston

Chambers is a Spring Creek transfer who could find even more success at Kinston, surrounded by some excellent offensive talent. I pride myself on being ahead of the recruiting curve with some of these rural players, but I might not be early with Chambers, who should blow up this summer when he shows out at college camps. You can't fake 6'4" with speed and ball skills, so once he gets on college campuses, expect the offers to flow.

[player_tooltip player_id='1024870' first='Brady' last='Ravin'], DB, Cannon School

Ravin is a versatile playmaker with ball skills on the back end of the secondary. Not only that, but he's a high-academic player who could earn academic scholarships even without the football aspect. As Division II and non-scholarship FCS programs settle their recruiting boards, Ravin could find himself with plenty of options. Figuring out the specifics there often requires some in-depth summer conversations, so as he has those, expect him to pick up some more interest on the recruiting trail from teams that specifically target athletic, academically-elite players.

[player_tooltip player_id='1151608' first='Christopher' last='Peavy Jr']., IOL, Corvian Community

Corvian Community has put together a talented team, but several of its best players haven't gained a ton of traction on the recruiting trail. I have a feeling that could change for Peavy, a talented two-way lineman. He has the ability to turn heads at college camps, and that could help him earn some offers and get the ball rolling this summer.
