Get 30% off your first billing cycle with code: OscarGalindo30 in the coupon code area.

The summer going into your junior season is often a big one for prospects, as college teams are starting to set their big boards for the incoming junior class and begin to reach out to players. To help the coaches get the jump on the 2027 class, I wanted to highlight a few players who I think are set to break out in 2025 and could become hot prospects by the time their junior campaign is over.

Here are five 2027s that are primed to rise this season:

(@FreyWyatt53088)

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1070886' first='Wyatt' last='Frey'] is a player who's been high on our 2027 board since emerging on our radars as a freshman. As a sophomore, Wyatt showed his upside as a dual-threat QB with his 937 passing yards, 1,258 rushing yards, 12 passing touchdowns, and 19 rushing touchdowns in his first season with the Lawrence-Nelson Raiders. From a physical standpoint, Wyatt possesses the prototypical measurables that coaches look for in their QBs, standing at 6'5" and 215 pounds with solid length and some room to continue filling out his frame. One part of Wyatt's game that stands out immediately is his poise in the pocket, displaying excellent mobility to maneuver his way around pass rushers and extend plays when he's forced out. Frey showed the arm strength to drive his passes into tight windows and deliver an accurate deep ball. Wyatt also showed good timing with his throws, trusting his receivers to get to their spot and his accuracy to hit them right in stride. Very tough runner who can absorb contact and keep fighting for additional yardage after the first hit. Wyatt was also a stud on the defensive side of the ball, leading the Raiders with 92 tackles, four TFLs, a sack, and an impressive six interceptions (two pick-sixes). Solid prospect who is sure to draw collegiate attention sooner rather than later.

(@QuentinMalone22)

Even though junior [player_tooltip player_id='1075674' first='Quentin' last='Malone'] will be rocking new threads next season, we should still expect to see him earn a solid role with the Westside Warriors. In a split Gretna East backfield, Malone was able to post 438 yards and three rushing touchdowns on 66 carries last season. Watching Quentin's tape, you see a physical back who flashes top-tier burst as he hits his gaps and the acceleration to break away from defenses as he finds the open field. Malone displayed solid vision that helps him navigate through traffic and find even small creases in the defense. He runs with a low center of gravity that helps him maintain his balance as he absorbs contact. Malone also showed some upside as a catch-and-run back who can receive the ball in space and do damage with blockers in front of him. Really looking forward to seeing Quentin as part of what should be an elite 1-2 RB duo at Westside.

(@LukeBennett2027)

This is one of my "buy stock now" prospects who I think is set to erupt in 2025. The Monarch's junior got his feet wet last season with eight receptions for 110 yards and a receiving touchdown, and now he enters the year as the presumed top receiving option. Bennett's 6'3", 195-pound frame provides the Monarch offense a big-bodied receiver who can use his size and catch radius to win jump balls and make catches outside his frame. Luke is an effective possession receiver who is great at working the short and intermediate areas of the field to keep the chains moving. He also showed some nice burst when turning upfield to tack on extra yards after the catch. There are still some green areas to Luke's game, but with an offseason to further his development, I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do this fall.

(@GavinMcMillan20)

We currently have Waverly's [player_tooltip player_id='1192420' first='Gavin' last='McMillan'] listed as a DB, but he has the potential to emerge as one of the top two-way players in this class. Gavin ended his sophomore season as the leading receiver with 184 yards and two touchdowns on 11 receptions and recorded two interceptions on defense. Defensively, I like Gavin's physicality when matched up in coverage, showing no hesitation to handfight and contest passes at the catch point. McMillan has ideal size for the DB position with a taller, lengthier 6'2", 185-pound frame. Gavin's speed allows him to match up well with any receiver and shows the agility to change directions sharply, stick with receivers as they go in and out of their breaks, and close on the ball quickly. Great instincts and ball tracking keep him in position to make plays.

(@JustinBarnesJr)

Injuries limited [player_tooltip player_id='1085111' first='Justin' last='Barnes Jr']. to only five games as a sophomore, but expect a solid bounce-back after he showed us flashes of the type of athlete he is. The biggest thing that stood out about Justin was his ability to read offenses and put himself in a position to make a play, as shown by his three interceptions. Barnes does a great job lurking in coverage, watching the QB/ball, and is quick to close on the ball. Physical, both at the catch point and when making a tackle on the ball carrier. The tape is limited but promising with this rising Thunderbird prospect!

Make sure to follow @PRZ_OscarG for more news on Nebraska and Iowa HS recruiting.
