The Millard North Mustangs add a big playmaker to their already stacked secondary with Bell West transfer, Justin Barnes Justin Barnes 5'10" | 165 lbs | ATH/WR Millard North | 2027 State NE . I don’t have official stats from Justin’s junior season, but from watching his tape, it’s clear that he has next-level upside. Justin is a fluid defensive back who plays with great mobility and instincts when in coverage. He flashes a high football IQ as he quickly picks up on receivers’ routes and has a good feel for when to get his hands up to defend the pass or try to snag it for himself. Justin moves well in coverage, starting with clean footwork through his backpedal, loose hips when changing direction, and good closing speed. Another aspect of Barnes’ game that stands out is that you can put him anywhere in the secondary, including cornerback, nickel/slot, and safety. Impressive physicality, both when challenging receivers at the catch point and when stepping up to make a stop in run support. I’m looking forward to seeing how Justin’s talents will be used with the Mustangs, with several opportunities available at DB or receiver.

Injuries limited Justin Barnes Justin Barnes 5'10" | 165 lbs | ATH/WR Millard North | 2027 State NE . to only five games as a sophomore, but expect a solid bounce-back after he showed us flashes of the type of athlete he is. The biggest thing that stood out about Justin was his ability to read offenses and put himself in a position to make a play, as shown by his three interceptions. Barnes does a great job lurking in coverage, watching the QB/ball, and is quick to close on the ball. Physical, both at the catch point and when making a tackle on the ball carrier. The tape is limited but promising with this rising Thunderbird prospect!
